Chapter 20 - POS: Drowning in Silence

Akon slowly paced back and forth adjacent to the water line, the cool salt sea water was a nice contrast to the scolding hot sand he walked on.

His parents were far off along the beach, not paying any attention to their child. As Akon watched the waves roll in and out, and the raggedy old wooden ships sail out to sea, he noticed something just below the water line.

At first he didn't know what it was, A fish he thought, but as I proceeded closer he realized it was bigger than any ordinary fish.

As it got even closer to shore he realized it had the lower half of a fish with the upper half of a beautiful woman.

The mermaid gracefully emerged from the water to reveal herself to Akon.

Her hair was a nice shade of velvet, her skin was flawless, and her eyes were the lightest shade of blue he had ever seen.

"Hello there." She said, staring directly into Akon's eyes.

Akon stood motionless, stunned by her beauty, he couldn't gesture a response.

"My name's Meredith. What's yours?" She asked.

Akon used his hands to spell out his name, he then spelled out the sentence

"I am mute." To her

"So you can't talk? That must make it hard to make friends." Meredith said in reply.

"Yes" Akon spelled out

"Do you have any friends?"

"No"

"Ah, that's so sad. I'll be your friend. Do you want to go for a swim?"

Akon wanted to say yes, but he remembered that his parents always told him not to talk to strangers.

However he never had a friend, much less had ever been friends with such a pretty lady.

He quickly looked around the beach to see no one was there.

"Come on, we can go for a quick swim, just you and me. We won't be gone long." Meredith assured him.

Akon reluctantly shook his head yes and reached out for Meredith's hand. She then latched onto his hand, and to Akon's horror instead of swimming him out to sea, she immediately dragged him under.

She then proceeded to hold him down just below the waterline.

The cold water filled his nostrils, he kicked and clawed furiously at Meredith, but to no avail, the mermaid's grip on him was too tight, the more he moved the more oxygen he used up. Within a few minutes he was motionless on the seafloor,

"Sorry but it was the only way." Meredith said

Before Meredith knew it her bottom half had reverted back into human legs thus she was no longer a mermaid.

She emerged from the water and was then met by a concerned woman standing on the beach.

"What's wrong ma'am?" Meredith asked

"Have you seen my child?" The woman replied.
