Rattling my lucky charm always had a calming effect to me and that's when I found it. Something circular but hollow.... "It's a ring, you idiot!" My mind tuned in. I took that out and gasped at it. It was made out of gold with solid leaves structure. It had something carved on the inside and I observed it closer and I found it. It was a name - Jeremy. "What a beautiful name" my mind chirped in. It took me to the same park where I had an awful experience with a stranger. "You have an amazing talent of embarrassing yourself, Quinn" I muttered and sighed at myself. Then, I placed the ring on my desk and charged my phone.
I still have a box which has to be cleared. I removed the tape, and found my serial lights to light up my wall which was opposite to my bed. After doing that tiresome work, I inserted my favorite photos in the clips which hung in between the lights. I placed my photo frame, the same golden one, I'd got it for Renita, on my desk beside the pen stand. Then, I hanged my dream catcher on the head rest of my bed and wind chimes to the metal bar which separated my room from the balcony. I jumped in shock when I heard my phone ring. To my surprise, it was them, I mean, Renita and Melanie in a conference call. "Hello guys!" I said and then it all started.
"Hey Quinn, how are-" , "Girl, why didn't you-" , "How do you-" I couldn't understand a question they were throwing at me, so I chimed in making my voice a bit louder. "Wait guys! Just wait and calm down. Please speak in turns and most importantly I couldn't understand your questions!" I yelled. "Hmm" they replied in unison. "You've gone for like a day and I've started to miss you!" Mel started. "Yeah, same here Mel" I sighed in sadness. "Miss you already guys. Wishing to meet you soon" I added. A wave of sadness and guilt passed through me. It all had happened because of me. "Don't worry we could at least FaceTime each other" Reni commented making us smile.
"Hey Quinn, you missed the drama in school, Reni you tell her" "Me? Okay..." Reni trailed off. "C'mon Reni, please tell me" I pouted as if they could see me. I quickly face palmed myself. "Umm yes, so August is there right" she said. "Did she taunt you or something?" I asked her. "Just listen and that didn't happen, okay? Calm down and be quiet" Reni instructed. "Okay" I replied. "So, you knew that I had participated for captainship for cheerleading, right?" She asked me. I bubbled in excitement, "Oh my God, yeah!" I squealed. "So I got her place!" She screamed and we cheered her. "Wow congrats Renita!!!" I exclaimed. "Thank you guys" she replied politely. I was so happy for her as her long awaited dream was finally fulfilled.
"So are you comfortable there?" questioned Mel. "It's okay here unless he talks about joining me to the same old school" I said, ignoring the truth that he is here. They shouldn't know it, if they knew, they would leave me. I also kept my powers as a secret, cause it's dangerous for me as well as for them. "Take care and if something is wrong, you can always turn up to us" she comforted the pain which was evident in my voice. "Okay sure! But I'm hoping that I won't meet her" I said. "You wouldn't" they said in unison. I dreaded the fact of seeing her or going back to my old school. "You can trick dad into joining you in another school" my mind gave me an idea. I contemplated on it and decided to give it a try.
I was pulled out from my thoughts when I heard someone knocking my door. "Hold on" I told my friends as I opened the door to meet my dad. "Dinner's ready kiddo. Who's on the line?" He asked me. "Mel and Reni" I mouthed the answer to him. "I'll come down" I told him as he closed the door. "You gotta go?" Reni asked me. "Yep.. It's almost 8 now, so we're gonna have dinner" I replied. "But for us it's 2" Mel laughed lightly more like she chuckled. "Okay then, we don't want you to keep you longer. Go eat and sleep well" Reni said. "Sure thing" I said with a heavy feeling in my heart. "Bye guys talk to you later.. Miss you!" They said as I ended the call and clutched my phone and held it near my heart. Seeing those pictures on the wall made me nostalgic. "It's all for the best" I said to myself and connected the charger to my phone. I opened the door and took a quick glance at my room. It finally had a home feeling to it.
Due to the nostalgic feeling, I failed to notice the black figure that was lurking in the dark corner of my room.
