Chapter 11 - Meeting my .... foe?

"Oh my God" was the only thing that was going on and on, in my stupid brain. Oh God, I feel mentally sick. I seriously can't believe that I'm going back to this school. It has been years since I went and all my contacts were erased except for two. Senior year was probably the worst time to start a new school too. People would already have their own groups and friends and I will be left out and be lonely for the next year. I huffed and scowled when I thought of being lonely. Seeing my old school, my mind went down my horrible memory lane. As I approached the school gates, I contemplated driving straight past the school and taking a U-turn, to head home and beg my dad to join me in a new school. But even me and my mind both know, that it's never gonna happen.

Throwing my idea into the trashcan, I parked my car in the school's valet and got up from it while grabbing my bag. A chill went down my spine and I didn't know whether it was due to cold or nervousness but still, I wore my jacket on. 'Everyone', yes I mean everyone who were standing in the valet stopped talking and looked at me. "So much for getting through the day without getting noticed" I thought. I pulled back my shoulders and tried to look confident, not letting the nerves show on my face. But boy, I was wrong. As soon as I walked through the main double doors, my hands started shivering. I shoved my hand in my pockets and ignored the stares I received, while walking to the principal's office.

I stood in front of the office room and exhaled the air I didn't know I was keeping. I went inside, blocking the murmurs of various students from the hall. The office was nice, warm colored and was spacious. I could barely hear everyone outside which is a good thing. I approached the desk, where a lady with white polished hair was sitting. She was texting somebody and didn't acknowledge my humanly presence. She looked tired and defeated, so according to me, she looked like she didn't want to be here. I mentally gave a hi-fi to the lady sitting before me. "Hi" I politely greeted her by standing in front of her desk. Her grey eyes did a quick scan of me. "Oh, hello there sweetie. Are you the new student?" She asked me with a small smile on her lips and I nodded. "Okay then, welcome to Mt. Edgecumbe High School. Can you tell me your name please?" She asked me. "Quinn Merida Luke, Ma'am" I replied for which she hummed.

I waited patiently, okay while tapping my foot impatiently, for her to print out my schedule and to give me all of the necessary details. Eventually she finished her tasks and handed me the sheets. "Here you go sweetie. I'll get someone to show you around the school" "It's hell, only rotten hell" my evil mind back answered her. But instead I replied, "Thank you ma'am" "You're welcome dear" she said as she pressed a button and held the mic to her lips. "Nora Evans, your presence is requested in principal's office" she announced through the intercom. THAT! I didn't expect her to call that one specific person. "OF ALL THE NAMES IN SCHOOL, SHE HAD TO CALL HER!!" I internally panicked and yelled. My whole world got crushed because of her stupid act. The temperature started to get warm in this room.

But I really do hope that she should have forgotten about me. But my merciless fate had other plans. A slight knock was heard in the room but that sound was deafening to my ears. "Calm down... calm down" I was saying it to myself but no, the warmth of the room was increasing. Suddenly the temperature of the room dropped down and was cold. Why was I nervous? No, I wasn't nervous but was embarrassed. Yes, I didn't wanna be embarrassed again or want to be called as weirdo or as a freak. I shuddered at the horrific moment. She came in with a smile and replied "Yes ma'am" politely. She turned her gaze towards me and quickly focused it back to the lady. I did notice her smile falter when she looked at me. "Good Lord! Now she remembers you, Quinn" my mind announced. "Yes Ms. Evans, I want you to guide Ms. Luke to her classrooms for today and be sure to clear her doubts as well" she glanced at me for which I curtly nodded. "Yes ma'am" Nora replied and held her hand out towards me.

I was dumbstruck by her action and whispered, "What" loud enough for her to hear. "Your class schedule" she said. "Oh" was all I could say. She took it out from my hand and hurried out through the door. I conveyed my thanks and went out to follow her. To my surprise, she was no where to be seen. Is she up to something even on my very 'second' first day? If yes, then I'm never gonna speak to her again. My mind chimed in, "As if you would speak to her now" Please remind me to kill my stupid mind. I took a glance at the long passage ways only to be met with a deserted area. Suddenly a hand pulled me from a class. I didn't know what to do so I mentally prepared my voice to be louder than usual just incase if I have to shout. Then I jerked my hand and stood in my attack position which was taught by my karate master. But when my eyes met the kidnapper's, I saw shock and it was quickly replaced with amusement.

It was indeed Nora and to my embarrassment, the whole class was present there too. Ohh, to top it all, the teacher was laughing by covering her mouth. Sensing all this, I stood properly and stared at my, now, good looking shoes. The whole class started laughing. "You're very good at this, Quinn" my stupid mind cheered me. I really have to kill my mind. "This is our new classmate, ma'am" Nora chirped in. "Okay, thank you Nora, please take your seat. Silence class!" the teacher said in a melodious tune. "We have a new student here. Please be friendly to her. Now," she paused to look at me, "you, sweetie please introduce yourself to the class" she said. My face turned red with embarrassment which resulted in a slight change in the temperature. "She did it again" I thought. Ignoring the rude thoughts which were bubbling up in me, I politely replied, "Yes ma'am" to the teacher.

"Hey everyone" I started with waving my hand. "I'm Quinn Merida Luke and you can call me, Quinn. I'm from Melbourne, Australia. The only reason why I ended up here is because of my dad who had opened up a new franchise here. Well, apart from that, I love history and art. My hobby is to read, draw and to travel. I like to be independent and unique. If I'm making mistakes, feel free to tell me and I'll correct myself" I smiled sweetly and continued, "But if you tell me to do something wrong or play dumb and stupid pranks on me," I gave my most deadly look, "I'll surely punch you cause I know martial arts" Then I smiled sweetly and politely said a 'Thank you' at the end. "Very well Quinn. I'm Victoria, your history teacher" she smiled. "Okay, Quinn, go take your seat. I must continue the presentation" she told me. Only two seats were left, one near the corner and the other near a boy, but..... he looked quite familiar.

As I neared him, I mentally searched for any details that would remind me who he was. I took my place next to him and lowered my bag as my mind failed to remember him. "Hey do yo-" his sweet voice was cut by Miss Victoria. "Felix, I would like you to do your presentation" he smiled at me and went up to the front to start his presentation. "Merida, take your schedule" my enemy said. But to my surprise, there was no hint of rudeness or mockery in it. She was just being friendly. "What is she up to now?" my mind alarmed me. Ignoring the thought, I shoved my schedule into my bag.
