Dan again, briefed the Wilder family. He most certainly had to reveal his identity in order for them to maintain their calm.
Sam and I played on the front porch, while Benkur was sedated via carrot in the barn buried under some hay.
As Dan, the Wilder parents, and Sheila the dog exited the house after their conversation, Sheriff Delany pulled up with a squadron of deputies.
About sixteen law enforcement officers exited their cars, lights swirling, and readied themselves for some action.
Dan attempted to approach them, arms raised, leather badge holder in hand, but the law wasn't having it.
The Sheriff bellowed out through a loud speaker, "Good morning folks, I'm here to crash the party. I know what's been going on around here."
A touch uneasy this time, Dan attempted to approach again, "Sheriff, I need to speak with you."
The Sheriff rebutted with a crackle, "We can all speak once the rest of the team arrives."
The rest of the team? Sixteen officers in full gear and a Sheriff weren't enough for a quiet family that lived on a farm?
Dan slowly retrieved his phone from his back pocket, punched some buttons and clicked on the speaker phone.
An authoritative voice mumbled out, "Good morning Danny boy, I've got three minutes, what can I do for you?"
Dan spoke loudly for emphasis, "Mr. President, I am having some trouble with the local law out here while on assignment, can you pull some strings for me?"
A chuckle exited the phone, "Dan, consider it done."
The Sheriff's phone began to ring, the type of ring when there is a tornado warning or an Amber alert, "Sheriff Delaney speaking."
The words came out hard and aggressive but the President of the United States made sure he was very clear about what needed to happen.
Clearly shaking, "Yes Mr. President. I apologize for the misunderstanding. I voted for you by the way."
Sheriff Delaney waved his hand in the air.
All the Deputies entered their vehicles and pulled out.
Simple enough.
Now, how was Benkur doing?
