During our fun play session with Sheila the dog and Bessie the pig, something happened.
The local sheriff came down the dirt road, lights on.
Dan was nowhere to be found but Sam said not to worry. Sheriff Delany was a nice guy and checked on the family often, though he never had his lights on.
The Sheriff stepped out of his car, put on his cowboy hat, and had a hand on his holstered gun, "Good morning boys. Mom and Dad around?"
Bessie the pig began oinking excitedly and Sheila the dog began to growl.
Sam took the lead, "No sir, Mom and Dad are at work. Don't worry though, we have Farmer Dan with us."
The Sheriff scanned the area, "Doesn't look like he's around kids. What are you boys up to? Who's he?"
Sam stepped in front of me, "We're just playing around Sheriff, this is my…um…"
Dan popped out of his cabin and interjected, "That's Sam's cousin Sheriff, he's going to be staying with us for a while."
With a scowl, "I assume youre Farmer Dan? Never seen you around here either."
With a smile and a shrug, "I'm the farmer for the family. Started yesterday. What can I do for you Sheriff?"
Stepping back to his vehicle, "Nothing now. I'll be in touch farmer. I'll see you soon."
I had a feeling the Sheriff was not a very nice guy.
That is another issue that weighed on my mind.
