Sharina apologizing to him was the last thing he had expected.
He almost didn't recognize them when they had first stepped in. Their clothes were tattered and messy, and their faces weren't any better. To Jack, they looked like thugs who had come in to attack him. Or maybe even monsters that had tracked him down. But seeing the faint golden glint of an amulet hung around the neck of the woman that came in, he knew immediately knew who they were.
"We're here, Jack."
Sharina stepped up to him, dropping to her knees beside him, her head bowed. Alarmed, Jack looked up at Newt but he was staring down, unable to meet Jack's eyes.
"The hell are you doing," he asked, his body tensing up.
"Just shut up," Sharina snapped, bringing her head up. Jack was surprised to see tears rushing freely down her face. "We almost died because of your dumbass."
