Hunter looked up at the noon sky before he leaned over the cliff and looked down; a little over two thousand feet below was the canyon floor and the plunge pool formed by the three waterfalls that cascaded down on the side of the village. Stephanie walked up next to him and looked down as well.
"What exactly are you wanting to find down there?" She looked back at Hunter as she gently grabbed his hand.
With a smile, he pulled her into his arms. "Nothing much really. I just wanna see if there are any Pythons remaining. If not, we could take a look at their skeletons. Plus it's a good place for you to practice as there won't be anyone near us."
Stephanie's eyebrows scrunched together in confusion as she looked at Hunter. "What do you mean practice?"
Hunter leaned in close, before his whispers tickled her ear. "I'll explain it to you once we get down there, ya?"
With a roll of her eyes, Stephanie nodded before wrapping her arms around Hunter's neck, allowing him to pick her up bridal style. As his wings appeared and unfolded from his back, Hunter glanced at Stephanie before he let out a chuckle as he leant in to kiss her forehead. "You should get used to this, as I'm going to take every chance I can get to carry you. There's no need to get so rosy, my love."
Stephanie, with her face beat red, just glared at him as she harrumphed.
"Hold on tight." Hunter spoke before he leaped off the cliff, spreading his black wings as he begun to glide down into the valley.
The two looked at the scenery, taking in the snaking rapids and the steep cliffs as they followed the trail of the valley, looking for large caves capable of being the Pythons dens. Stephanie looked down, seeing from time to time different animals local to the area, along with a few weak class monsters like slime molds and cliff huggers. Both species being creatures that are too weak to cause a major threat to the kingdom, but strong enough to allow soldiers and adventurers to fight and train against.
Finally after flying for an hour, and losing sight of the waterfall after several bends and branches in the canyon, Hunter and Stephanie finally saw a large cave in the cliff face. As they glided down towards the entrance, one could see that the cave floor didn't angle too steeply, allowing for stable footing for all manner of creatures. The cave entrance itself dwarfed the two as they landed in front of it, and Stephanie slightly shivered as a cold, damp gust of wind with a scent of sulfur, blew out from deep in the darkness.
Her face paling, Stephanie turned to Hunter as her eyes quivered with fear. "Do you really want to go in there? I'm a storm mage Hunter, enclosing myself like that is basically courting death for me!"
Hunter pulled down his hood and blindfold as he softly looked at Stephanie. Grabbing her arm and pulling her into a hug as he wrapped his wings around her, he whispered soothingly, helping her to relax. "We won't go in there right away. Like I said one of the things we are gonna do is for you to practice. Besides, you got me, and I won't let anything happen to you."
She nodded into his collarbone in response before he continued. "Plus later on when we do adventures, we may end up having to fight in caves and enclosed spaces. So wouldn't it be better for you to practice now in an empty cave before we enter a cave that has, say a dragon residing in it?"
Stephanie pulled away from Hunter's grasp as she looked at him. "Okay so what are we going to work on first?"
Hunter looked over her, causing her to blush, before he spoke lightly. "How's your use with (Thunder Shaker)?"
Stephanie hesitantly pulled (Thunder Shaker) off her back as she smiled embarrassedly. "Grandpa never taught us how to wield weapons. He had us only focus on studying and those who were adept, on magic."
Hunter nodded as he began recalling all the movies he had seen that had spear techniques in them. "To be honest, I, myself, have never taken actual training on spear use so I won't be good on teaching you that well. I at most, can teach you the very basics but well any idiot could understand stab and pull." Hunter looked around at the trees nearby. "Okay, how about we test your capabilities with the spear. See that tree over there? The best we can do without a professional is maybe have you train on your accuracy, so I want you to throw your spear at that tree. We'll start at ten feet from the tree."
Stephanie raised her eyebrow at Hunter as she walked over to the spot. His face became beet red as he looked away bashfully. "Sorry, I've never taught anybody anything before so I'll tell you straight up, I'm not the best teacher."
Stephanie laughed as she looked at him. "Then why did you want to rush out here so quickly before we brought the others. Spartacus could've easily helped teach me the basics since he uses a spear as well."
"The real reason why we rushed out here is cause of your Divinity."
Stephanie's eyes widened in surprise. "Wait.. isn't that the thing that Gods have and makes them immortal and powerful?"
Hunter laughed. "Ya but not exactly. I myself don't know much about what it is, however what I do know is that it's what allows my brothers and I to continue getting stronger and allows us to do things that most gods would choose not to do. What I know so far is that everything has a bit of Divinity in it."
Hunter bent down and picked up a pebble off the ground. "This pebble has a sliver of Divinity. To be honest the amount is so small that I can't really see it, however since I'm attuned to my Divinity, I'm able to sense or feel the rock's Divinity. Living creatures also have Divinity, though it flows around their body a lot like blood. However in the case of my brothers and I, our Divinity doesn't flow like blood, instead they gather and erect like pillars in our minds.
Back when you drank my blood, we noticed that your Divinity had quivered and begun to solidify. However; it was still flowing around your body like normal, but now, after you stabbed that noble, your Divinity has fully solidified and erected a pillar."
Stephanie looked at Hunter as she processed what he was saying. "So I'm basically like you and your brothers now?"
Hunter showed a slight grin as he nodded his head. "From what our Divinity has told us, my brothers and I, and now you, are beings called Divine Ones. We still have no clue what they are exactly, but I have faith that we'll find the answer to that someday."
Stephanie nodded as she squeezed the spear tighter with determination. "By the way, why did you want me to work on my spear technique especially? Ya, I'm not as good as Spartacus, but I clearly nailed that bastard to the wall with ease."
"I actually wanted to see if you using (Thunder Shaker) has any connection to your Divinity. If I can find a connection, we might be able to find a way for you to become stronger Divinely until you become a god yourself."
*Sigh* "Okay, but you'd think that if I was a Divine One of spears then I should already be a spear master, right?"
Hunter chuckled hearing Stephanie's statement. "If that were the case, then your Divinity would be unable to grow. From what I've figured out, Divinity seems to grow when something resonates with your soul. In my case, when ever I see disgusting people like that Yechen Noble, and I think about all the evil they committed to the innocent, I get really mad causing my Divinity to grow and give me new abilities."
Stephanie nodded her head as she closed her eyes, focusing on trying to figure out the types of things that could cause her soul to resonate. Stephanie thought back to the fight in the inn's lobby. At that time, she had felt a lot of emotions like disgust and hatred towards the bastard that wanted to force Linrun. In her anger, she wanted the man to begone as quickly as possible so he wouldn't continue staining Linrun's life, so she threw the spear as hard as she could into him. After watching his life fade from his eyes, she had felt satisfied knowing that the bastard got what was coming to him, especially after she learned about what he planned to do to the poor inn keep's family.
She then thought back to when Hunter fed her his blood to make her stronger. She thought about how determined she was to become stronger so that she could protect people, and make her grandfather proud, but she realized that she was really bent towards, at that time, being strong enough to make the Feniri suffer for slaughtering her village and killing the old man. As she focused on this last thought, Stephanie felt a jolt pass through her body as she let out a faint whisper. "Vengeance."
