Chapter 43 - Chapter Twelve: Grief Counseling for Widows

February 2011

He then sat in his truck and stared at the building while squinting his eyes, thinking to himself, perhaps maybe just maybe, if he tried hard enough, that the building would disappear to where he didn't have to go in. Pretend that they weren't open today or maybe forget to tell that the grief counseling session has been canceled? However, what kind of example would Liam show Thomas if he didn't follow through on what he told his son he would do? Plus, it will show Hazel how serious he is about pursuing this on pause relationship, to where they both can stop the who is going to freeze each other out the most extended bit they have going on between each other out the last two months. Seeing that neither of them has known what to say to another, which has involved hanging upon another, as the person, on the other hand, answers the call. Almost as Liam & Hazel were in high all over again, although when Liam was in high school, Hazel was in elementary school at the time. Definitely an age difference between the two; however, opposite people tend to attract one another even if they almost have a twelve-year age difference.

Liam then opens his driver-side door and gets out before closing the driver-side door. When suddenly he feels a hand on his shoulder, he then looks over to his right and sees Zoey.'' Don't be nervous baby, just go in there & talk about me. This is something you need to do for your mental health, and is not going to make you forget about me? Is that's something that you are worried about? states Zoey as she continues to keep her man in line even though Zoey isn't physically here, although she continues to be in spirit when her boys need her the most.''I just don't want you to think, that I am attending this grief counseling to move forward on this, weird & awkward relationship. Going on between Hazel and myself at the moment even though yes I am aware that we have already discussed the fact that I'm not trying to replace you conversation, It's just that I can't however feel that somehow possible in a way I am ''states, Liam.

''You aren't in any way doing that ''tells Zoey as she then disappears into thin air.

Liam then walks into the church and to one of the side doors, with a sign taped on it Grief Counseling for Widows. Once he opens the side door and sees a few people both men and women sitting in a circle. As he finds an empty seat closest to the door in case he wants to bail in discrete, seeing this is all new to him expressing his feelings. To a bunch of strangers about Zoey and their past? How it makes him feel now that his partner is gone?

''Liam why don't you tell us about the spouse that you lost?'' asks the therapist curiously?

''I lost my wife Zoey a year and two months ago she was driving to pick up our son late from a sleepover and was hit by a drunk driver ''tells Liam.

''How long were you with your wife?' asks the therapist

''Almost eighteen years, we started dating in our junior year of high school, we dated for 6 years and was almost married for twelve years ''states Liam.

''Do you have any children?'' asks the therapist

''Yes a little boy named Thomas who just turned ten, and my wife was almost four months pregnant when she was killed, we never found out the gender, However, Zoey assumed that we were expecting Lily our baby girl ''tells Liam.

''I'm so sorry for the double of losses that you faced on that same night ''says the therapist.

''Thank you I was away that weekend for a guys trip with a bunch of my college buddies as well as my brother-in-law Caleb who was Zoey's older brother. I didn't want to go however my wife thought it would be good for me. Not knowing when I kissed my wife goodbye would be the last time i ever saw her again ''states Liam.

''You can't blame yourself for what happened Liam, it was out of your hands. Also, Zoey will always be with you, whenever you are feeling down and need her strength to bring yours up along with your self-esteem & wisdom'' says the therapist.

''I know that I just wish that I had been there to protect her, although that would mean our little boy would've been an orphan at nine years old. That being said I am accepting the fact that my best friend is gone, and I am trying to make peace with that ''states Liam. Unsure on how to handle these mixed emotions going around in his mind.I mean yes he is thankful for not being in the car with Zoey, although on the other hand, he would still be with her. Even if that means from above and he can't wait for the day that he is back with his wife.

''It's understandable to want to be with the people who we love & have lost but wishing that our lives had ended. To with the person is not the answer nor is it the solution. Do you ever have thoughts of ending your life Sheriff Brown?'' asks the therapist curiously seeing if he needs more than just counseling?

''No nothing like that, my wife will never see our son grow up,and see the amazing person that he will become, and don't want to miss having front row seats to that show anytime soon. After I lost my life Thomas was the only thing that got me to wake up every day and seeing his smiling face made it one hundred percent worth it for sure. I do however know that in a few years, I will want my partner and crime by my side when he becomes a teenager. However, I will have to be the sole bad cop on this one, although being the sheriff of this town. Makes it ten times easier especially when he starts getting into trouble ''states Liam bringing a little bit of humor into this heartfelt topic of his at the moment.
