Chapter 1 - Prologue: The Condemned

Screams of hate surround the once peaceful plaza of the capital. The people of Havan gathered for this day. The day where everyone forgets about morals and unhinge their angers and frustrations. The day she dies.

Standing atop the platform is a bulky man with a filthy black mask covering his entire face with only two holes, each for an eye. The man carries with him a large axe with rust sitting on the edges. Rust that is never cleaned, the blood of criminals, the unruly, the unfaithful and the innocent. Rust that makes the axe blunt throughout the years. The bluntness making it more painful for whoever is the unfortunate recipient of this cursed weapon.

Next to the man was a woman in soiled garbs, clearly this person has not washed for days. However, underneath the filth and grime was once the woman dubbed as the most beautiful out of all the ladies in court.

Her glossy jet-black mane now a sooty black. Her once rose-tinted complexion, a pale aftermath of torture and deprivation. Her piercing pair of amaranthine is now a faded purple.

The woman whose presence would stir the court and the whole continent is now reduced to a hunched figure awaiting her demise.

The people start to throw things at her. Chant names that people gave her. Names that if uttered back when she was a noble, would give them the same fate of which she is in right now. She doesn't even flinch or try to defend her lanky body, she just closes her eyes while being cursed at, feeling tremendous pain.

A rumbling trumpet is what made everyone stop. This was also the signal that she was now going to meet her end. Two guards rush in beside her and pushes her at the front of the platform where a bloodied log is.

Not a single grunt or act of resistance. She cooperated with the guards and placed her head at the top, turning right where the palace can be seen.

At the base of the palace, she can see the figures of the people she longed for. The ones who condemned her, the people who could have seen her true feelings. The ones she tried to love.

That was how Elysia died. She was seen as a ruthless, heartless person but in truth, she was scared of how people would think she was a cunningly sly woman, just like her mother.
