Chereads / The Summer Soldier / Chapter 8 - The Birthday Scare

Chapter 8 - The Birthday Scare

It didn't take long for the compound and tower to be completely deck out in Halloween decorations, such as fake blood on the wall. There was fake spiders with fake webs. Jack-o-lanterns fill both buildings.

Speaking of the devil behind it all. Tony grabs me from behind. I flip him over my shoulder. "Don't sneak up on me," I tell him. I follow the path to the kitchen to make fall treats.

With cookies in the oven, I start to prepare for making the next set of treats. Steve and Bucky walk in just as I pull out the tray of gingerdead men. Tony comes rushing in and steals a few cookies. I growl at him with such ferosity he runs out of the room as quickly as he could. The super soldiers were wary of the cookies.

"They won't kill you. They are just cookies." I could tell they were curious as to why some of the cookies were missing limbs. I grab two cookies and hand them both one.

"Do I smell gingerbread cookies? Last time I checked it wasn't Christmas." Sam exclaims as he comes running in. I hold out a cookie for him. He walk back out of the room. *It may not be Christmas, Sam, but it is almost the scariest day of them all.* Steve and Bucky leave shortly after Sam does.

Two hours after baking plenty of spooky treats, I decide to go to my room for a little while. On my way there, I feel two hands grab my mouth and waist. I growl, but the sound becomes slightly muffled. I am pulled into a closet. Lips press against mine after the person spins me around.

"Hey, it's just me. Your cousin decided that everyone should play a game of tag and seek, even the people who don't know. He also made a rule that no one can be excluded. Bruce can't even be excluded from the game."

Helpful tip: no one is allowed to use magic or powers to find people. Steve is it, by the way," Bucky informs me.

*Tony, you just had to start a game of tag and hide n' seek, didn't you?*

"Well, there is one problem with that rule. I know where everyone, in the tower, is right now due to my super hearing. Steve is in the kitchen by the way. How about we hide in my room?" I suggest as I pull Bucky towards my room.

"What do you plan to do for Samhain or better known as Halloween?" I ask as we sat on my bed facing each other.

"I don't know. I mean... it has been over seventy years since Steve and I celebrated the holiday together. Everything has changed so much. I wouldn't even know what to do anymore." He frowns at that fact. I think I have an idea.

Looks like Steve found someone in a closet. I teleport to him and bring him back to Bucky.

"How would you guys like to catch up on Halloween traditions of the era. I would love to help you learn more about this time. Sadly, I am not sure I would be the best choice for this, since I have been stuck with Hydra for the majority of my life." I watch their faces for any form of emotion.

Steve smiles at me, "We would greatly appreciate that." As soon as the door knob begins to turn, I grab both soldiers and teleport us into another room.

*Damn it, Juliet. I knew you, Cap, and Bucky were in your room.*

*Sorry, Scotty. As far as I know, the rule was no one is allowed to use magic or powers to seek people. Never said that I could not use powers to hide or escape.*

Suddenly, all I could smell is rotting flesh. My nose burns from the smell. I teleport to the source of the scent. I am faced with a grey almost white haired man who towers over me. "Who are you?"

He doesn't respond. I can tell that everyone knows that the man is here since everyone comes running into the room. "I will ask one more time. Who are you?" I growl at him.

"Down, Little Wolf. Everything is okay; he is with the government." Tony pulls me behind him. I move out from behind him only to have Steve put his arm out in front of me.

"Ross, what are you doing here? We don't want anymore problems." Steve slowly moves towards him. Bucky slowly walks closer to me.

I quickly turn and run out of the room. I know Bucky is the one following me due to the whirring of his metal arm.

"Juliet, where are you going?" Bucky proceeds to follow me. I slip pass the elevator doors. Bucky stops the closing doors with his metal arm. I struggle to breathe as the need to vomit gets worse.

Bucky watches me slide down the wall as I put my head between my knees. He sits down in front of me and pulls me into his lap. He starts to rock my body side to side.

The awful odour finally leaves my senses. I pull myself out of Bucky lap and stand up. He follows my lead, and we go back to the others. "What did he want from us?"

"You, Little Wolf. He wants to you to go to jail for your crimes as a Hydra agent."

"Tony, I am the only agent with the lowest kill count. I only killed people when I was being babysat."

As time passes by, Halloween comes full force at the Avenger Tower and Compound. Tony has made the decision to have a Halloween party. Costumes are required of course; however, we are not allowed to dress up in our suits. The party starts at nine pm.

I brought home some pumpkins to carve and paint for Steve and Bucky, in case they didn't want to carve any. I think they might enjoy that idea. I know we have enough as it is, but there is no such thing as too many pumpkins. I notice that seven o'clock was upon us. I told them that we could carve at the party if they wanted to.

Thankfully, both of them agreed. "I think I will change into my costume now. I will see you two at the party then." I smile to them as I walk to my room.

I wonder what Steve and Bucky are dressing up as. I want to surprise everyone with mine. I have been working on it for a few weeks now. I begin to put the fake cut on my neck for a decapitation look. I already had put the tacky clothes on. I add the scarf wrapped loosely around my neck as I slip on the unique top hat.

I walk around looking for my chipped tea cup. I finally find it hiding behind the march hare plush that I shove into my trenchcoat pocket. I think I am just about ready to go to the party. Alright. I can do this without anyone getting hurt.

I have a vision in which I am fighting Bucky in a caged room. My hands are covered by the sleeves on my suit. The collar is on my neck, being forced to fight Bucky with hand to hand combat.

Suddenly I was back at the tower next to the table with the pumpkins and carving utensils. I can see that during my vision I had carved the pumpkins. I turn away from them when I hear someone approaching. "Hey, Little Wolf, what are you doing with that knife?

I look to my hands as I finally noticed the knife. "I don't recall coming into the room or carving the pumpkins behind me." Tony freaks out a little bit by my response. I turn back around to stare at the pumpkin.

I had carve the Christmas murder scene onto the pumpkins. It includes the source of the bad memory: Bucky. I know I need to get rid of the pumpkins before he see it.

"Is that suppose to be Bucky?" I whimper at the rage filling Tony's voice as I softly nod at his question. "Why would you hide this from everyone, especially him? Why aren't you repulsed by his actions? I mean... I wanted to kill him for killing my mom."

"Because I know it was not his fault, I know now that Hydra made him tear my family apart." I growl at the venom coming from his questions.

"I don't understand why you are still mad at him. You should be mad at the people who made him murder our family."

Bucky walks passed Tony and sees the pumpkins. He runs right back out as I run after him.

"Bucky stop, please." He refuses to stop running. I felt a pair of hands grab me roughly. Something was injected into my neck. Worst birthday ever. I scream as loud as I can before I fall unconscious.
