Chapter 1 - Before the slaughter

"Bye Crystal, see you tomorrow," I said before I started to walk home. I glanced at my phone and saw that it's eleven, "Crap, it's going to be mid-night by the time I get home." how am I going to get home and not get in trouble? Dad told me never to take the alleyway as a shortcut, but it's the quickest way home. I have to take it, just this once. No one will ever know.

I reached for my pepper spray, just in case. This is a bad decision. I should take the long way around, but the alley takes half an hour off my travel time. I glanced at my phone again and saw that it's now eleven ten. "I'm going through the alley, just keep walking, Gabby." I took a deep breath, and walked into the alley.

I want to run, but I don't want my brother, Mayhem, to get suspicious. Shoot I'll jog. As I was jogging I heard footsteps behind me. I want to look behind me, but I'll be slowed down. I'm sure I'm just being paranoid. I'll be fine, right?

Just breathe, you can do that Gabby just breathe. My eyes widened as I felt a hand grab my own. In seconds I was blindfolded, gagged, and restrained, my hands bound by ropes. I couldn't have made a peep, the unused pepper spray fell to the ground with a loud clatter. Everything was blurry, my heart was racing, my body shook. Darkness invaded.

As I started to wake up I heard someone say, "She's not what I wanted, but I guess she'll have to do."

I started to move, I kept trying to remove the gag, but my hands were bound behind my back. I tried to say something, but all that came out was muffled screams. I still couldn't see anything.

The ownerless voice said, "Oh! She's up," they removed the blindfold, then the gag, and I started to kick at her. She mutters out, "Feisty, I like it."

Her hand grabbed hold of my chin as she stared me dead in the eye. Her gray eyes looked cold and empty. I managed to bite her hand, "Shiz, that hurt kid!" she yelled. I started to squirm, and I didn't stop until my wrists were rubbed raw.

"Who are you?" I asked, my voice shaky but demanding.

She looked at me, a smile forming on her lips, and said, "I'm your worst nightmare."

I screamed, "Don't smile at me!"

Her eyes widened, mouth slightly open, "No one has ever yelled at me before," she walked up to me, and slapped me. I have to calm down, I need to breathe.

With my cheek stinging I asked, "What do you want with me?"

She chuckled, managed to get even closer, and said, "You'll find out soon." with that she walked out of the room.

How did this happen? I shouldn't have gone down the alley! "I'm such an idiot," I muttered, starting to cry, "I should have listened to dad!" I can't think about it anymore, I need to escape. I'm just so stupid, I didn't listen to the one parent I have. I'm sorry dad, I wasn't thinking about my safety, or what might have happened to me. Left alone with just tears and thoughts, nothing makes sense.

She walked back into the room, and I feebly said, "Let me go, I just want to go home." she looked at me, and shook her head while walking over to a table. She grabbed a cup, and placed a pill next to it. She looked at me and smirked, "I can't let her hear my plan," she said as she picked the cup back up, and walked out of the room.

She looked back at me, and said in a commanding voice, "Don't move from that spot." I just nodded, weakly.

She walked out of the room with a smile on her face. I watched as she closed the door, I can't believe that I was dumb enough to go down that alleyway. When she walked into the room again the cup was full of a purple liquid. If she tries to make me drink that I'm going to kick her in the face.

She walked over to me after grabbing the pill, and she said, "Drink it," I shook my head. Not in a million years.

She pushed the glass up to my lips, and started to tip it. I looked her dead in the eyes, and smirked. I shook my head one last time, before I raised my foot up and kicked her in the face. Dead center. She dropped the glass, and the pill, then angrily said, "That hurt, kid," while blood was running down her nose. She got up, and wiped her face.

She looked down at the broken glass, then back to me, then walked away to the table. I drug a piece of the broken glass as close to me as I could without cutting myself. Once I got in my hand, I tried to cut the rope.

She came back over with a knife, then said, "I didn't want to hurt you. But looks like I'm going to have to," she held the knife up to my arm and pressed the blade down, blood already seeping out of the wound, and then dragged it across.

I screamed out of pain. I started crying again, and through my sobs I asked, "Why are you doing this?" she looked at me with a cold stare.

She answered with, "So that I can have my way." she glanced between my face and the cut before smiling.

She grabbed my arm, tugging me closer, then licked the cut, I shuddered. I tried to pull away from her, but she kept pulling me back.

"Where are you going?" she asked after she cocked an eyebrow.

I looked at her, and I said, "Let me go, please," she simply shook her head.

Looking down at the cut, she said, "Not until the day I die."

I looked at her and screamed, "Monster!" my voice shaking.

She got up and left the room for the last time that night. How could she do this? Who is she? Why me?

I tried to sleep, but it was useless. I kept thinking about the people that I let down. I'm sorry, I'm so sorry. I'm such an idiot! "WHY ME?!" I yelled, warm tears running down my cheeks.

I couldn't let myself think about it. I have to survive this, for dad, Mayhem, and Crystal. I have goals in life, I want to travel the world. I want to graduate. I have to get Mayhem through school. I can't think of it right now.

"I'm sorry," a sob breaking through my voice, "I just can't do this anymore."

I glanced around the room looking for something that could at least knock me out. The only thing I saw was the table. I tried to get up, but I couldn't, I was far too tired. Weak. I have to get out of here.

I hit my head on the wall behind me, hard. My vision was blurry. I hit my head on the wall again, harder. Darkness clouded my vision.
