CHAPTER 15
'Hey brat, on the side. Can you feel it?'
When Hunter squatted down to check the soil, Vermilion Bird spoke to Saphira.
'You are awake,' she replied looking at the rest.
No one seemed to realize something about her and so she walked like normal and checked the side.
She had felt it the moment they walked over to this place.
That place was reeking of miasma and dark energy.
Though Vermilion Bird had recovered a lot, there are times he would fall asleep for a few days, sometimes weeks indicating that he wasn't fully recovered yet.
The last time he was awake was about three months ago.
'I've been awake for a while now, I was planning to continue sleeping unless it is necessary for me to wake up but that place reeks of such dark energy.'
Saphira raised an eyebrow, it seems that the host and the beast share the same kind of trait, laziness.
'Though you really don't need to point it out, both of us developed the same thing. We are more sensitive towards dark energy than the rest,' she reminded him.
Vermilion Bird rolled his eyes before going quiet.
When he was with Raynisha, she was a serious one.
She spoke when he spoke and kept quiet once he keep quiet.
When she needed to ask something she'll ask him and he'll answer, other than that the two of them wouldn't speak about unnecessary stuffs.
But this girl was just too much.
She would argue with him and at times when he speaks, she wouldn't even reply to him.
Saphira walked over to where that place is and noticed the track the giant beast have left behind.
When she returned her look to where the rest are, she realized that it was hidden due to the damage the forest have received.
'Ugh, I really hate this sensitivity,' Vermilion Bird spoke up.
Saphira was the same.
She couldn't just feel it but she can somehow smell a very disgusting smell.
'Does this have to be included in an upgrade for the two of us?' she asked, frowning.
'How will I know?' Vermilion Bird asked in return.
It was Saphira's turn to roll her eyes.
She looked straight ahead and that's when Hunter approached her.
CHAPTER 15 BY THE CLIFF
She walked over to the cliff while Nixon did his part in taking a sample.
'It's not here,' Vermilion said.
'Nope, it seems that it just pass by here. Must be looking for food?' she replied.
For the first time today, they were speaking normally and seriously.
'It must be where the track started,' he once again commented.
'Yeah, and basing from its tracks it is quite a big one. Must be bigger than your sizes?' she asked pertaining to their original gigantic sizes.
'No, I think it is about the same size as ours or a little smaller,' he answered.
'And basing on the tracks it left behind, that miasma and dark energy. It is pretty obvious that it was a snake,' he added.
'Indeed, a gigantic snake,' she continued.
She looked down and noticed something shining at the edge of the cliff, she picked it up and saw that it was a scale.
No one noticed it while she kept it in her pocket.
'There's no point staying here then,' she said turning around.
"What's wrong?" Hunter asked her.
She simply shook her head, she can't tell him she just had a secret conversation with Vermilion Bird can she?
CHAPTER 17
'Stupid,' Vermilion Bird said when she slipped in saying that it was a snake with certainty.
'Yeah, yeah, whatever,' she replied with a pout.
'At the same time, that wasn't on the path, it was on the cliff. Are you some old woman?' Vermilion continued.
'...'
The next day when they got close to the shore, Saphira instantly frowned.
'It's moving. Did it feel the presence of all these mythological beasts?' Vermilion Bird commented.
The two of them can clearly see the snake under the water in a very different way.
Very different from the rest of the people in here who can't even feel its presence yet.
'Could be,' she answered walking towards Hunter, Hamlet and Ezekiel.
CHAPTER 34
As she leaned on the tree.
'If this was the past me, I would have thought of it as hypocricy. Even though their intentions were good and their actions were genuine,' she spoke to Vermilion Bird.
'Hypocricy... Quite a heavy word you are using there.'
'I would have thought of it as them trying to act the saint by forgiving the family of the one who killed their beloved son.'
'I think I couldn't argue with that but I can clearly see that there are no pretense in their actions and emotions.'
There are only a few times that the two of them could talk this way.
Serious and genuine without sarcasm or teasing.
'That's why I am saying that if it were the past me. But right now I can see it clearly as well. They genuinely didn't want to forgo their relationship because of what had happened.'
'You have truly grown,' Vermilion Bird couldn't help but say.
'To accept is the best way to move forward and they did it without much thought,' she commented.
'Acceptance... isn't that the reason why you are fine now?' he told her.
She scoffed before going down the tree and even yawned.
'And you also became so bold as to ignore my genuine compliments.'
'Because I am not fine, but I am living.'
CHAPTER 35
'Your heart seemed to have calmed down a lot. Are you that happy?' vermilion asked noticing the changes in her emotions.
'I am happy that I get to meet her after eight long years. For her encouragement was enough to give my already tired heart a boost to keep going.'
He understood very well how much hardship she had been through just to reach this point.
To reach the strength in her emotional state right now.
How much she had to endure and over come.
Everything was witnessed by him that he finds himself being drawn by her with each passing day.
That he understood why Phoenix ended up sacrificing her life for her, willingly.
The reason why his hatred towards human dwindled and he have come to accept her as his next host.
A host very different from the rest.
