The chime of the bell resonated through out the quiet shop, and the sound of footsteps and gasps filled the area with an occasional clatter as scissors were dropped onto the floor.
Amber didn't look up and continued to prepare for the next customer she will get.
Compared to most people, her reactions, and hearing were more developed. So when the workers beside her started whispering to each other, she heard them very clearly, 'Who are they?' 'They are so handsome,' and ' I hope Sarah will assign me to one of them'. Her ears only pricked up though, when someone said ' That is the army commander, Louis Glory and beside him is his brother, the most handsome man on the planet, Jayden Glory, I don't know why they are here though because they usually are not caught outside with out being in their uniforms'.
The two walked to the front reception desk, the sunlight streamingin behind them, framing their perfectly sculpted bodies. " Excuse me," Louis said to Mary, he coughed awkwardly trying hard to get her attention as she was just staring at them in awe, like a fan girl who just saw her idol up close and personal. " Errr, yes sir, what can we do for you?" asked Sarah, as Mary was not responding after about five minutes of Louis clearing his throat. "We dont have an appointment booked today, is there a slot we could fit into...".
Jayden didn't hear the rest of the conversation his brother had with Sarah, as his attention was drawn to something else.
Amber had just finished setting up the different products and equipment she would need for customers until it was her lunch break, when she felt a heavy gaze on her. She was at the station in the corner so her view was obscured by other objects, yet she could clearly see the source of the gaze in the mirror.
Jayden stood there, staring at her, observing her every movement.
All the girls working in this barber's, were very pretty, but Amber was the only one that caught his eye. She wasn't pretty, she was gorgeous. There was a reason she was in the corner, and that was so that the other girls had a chance to get some work as well, otherwise it would just be Amber doing all the work.
He was brought out from his stupor when he heard, coming from near Amber, a comment that made his blood boil, but what happened after that surprised him even more. The comment came from a girl, whose name was Whitney. She hated Amber, but no one knew why, only she and amber knew that Whitney was the second daughter of Jane.
" Looks like the little fox has struck again, seducing another victim" after saying her part, she nodded her head in Amber's direction, then at Jayden who had his eyes glued to the back of the former, a smug look on her face. It didn't last long though.
Amber, already annoyed at getting stabbed by someone who played dirty, was looking for someone to take her frustration out on. She moved her scissors slightly to the edge of the table facing Whitney, and pretended to fall and hit the scissors. The scissors flew through the air, twirling around, and around, doing loop-de-loops in the air, until it came crashing down, right in front of Whitney's feet.
"Oh my, look what I did, I'm really sorry Whitney, I really didn't mean for that to happen!" Amber exclaimed, in a tone filled with fake sympathy and apology.
It happened so fast, that Whitney was unable to scream until about a minute after the scissors had touched the ground. Amber covered her ears, to protect them from the high pitched scream, that followed.
Looking at her, Jayden grinned 'My girl is cute and feisty,... wait...MY girl... hahaha' he laughed at his thoughts, but he didn't despise the fact that he thought of her as his, rather he quite liked the idea.
While he was chuckling to himself for the third or fourth time that day, Whitney's screaming grabbed the attention of everyone present, even Mary's, who was still standing where Sarah had pushed her to, staring in awe at the two brothers. Hearing the scream, Sarah excused herself from Louis for a minute to see what was going on.
When she got to where both Amber and Whitney's stations were, she saw the scissors lying on the floor. Without a second thought, she looked inquiringly at Amber, Amber seeing her accusing look, shook her head, feigning innocence, insisting she hadn't done anything. Sarah sighed, and rubbed her temples, feeling a headache coming on.
She led Whitney to the locker area, not before shooting Amber a warning look. After picking up the scissors, and making sure that Sarah couldn't see her, she beamed.
Her smile was stunning, Jayden was mesmerized, her smile was like a magnet drawing him in.
Coming back from escorting Whitney to the locker room and giving her a drink to calm her nerves, Sarah finished up sorting out the slots for the two brothers to fit into.
That day they did not have many appointments, and so it was easy to slot them in together.
She had noticed how Jayden was staring at Amber like a hawk, and knowing the gossip about how he stays away from women, and her occupational habit of being matchmaker, she gave him a slot with her.
