Chapter 18 - Chapter Eighteen

Volleyball is easy? I'd love to see you run thirty feet, dive across the floor, to get on your feet, and back to your position in under five seconds.

Mya's POV

This bed rest stuff is not working for me. I got out the hospital a week ago and I have to go back for my surgery next week. Obviously I'm missing school, but I got my girls helping me out bringing my homework and they're letting me use their notes for each class.

I'm still getting asked what happened even though it happened a week ago and I pretty much told everybody. It's irritating, but I still answer their questions since they want to be nosey.

Right now, I'm watching this show called Make It Or Break It on Hulu. This is my second time I watching this show and it gets me mad every time because they do a lot of stupid stuff, but it's also very interesting as well.

"Awe naw. This bitch gon make me throw my phone across the wall." I say to myself. I turn off the show and turn to Law & Order: SVU. Now this is my show. This was another episode about a rape victim, but it was pretty interesting.

This girl was a porn star, and two boys from her college that she was going to, found the video and realized that it was her. They then raped her, and when she tried the press charges. However, the judge basically said that because she's a porn star, it won't make a difference if they got in trouble or not because they would still bash the girl. It's bogus, but they girl said that at least when she does porn, they actually stop when she tells them to.

Right when the episode ended, my stomach growled and my phone started to ring. I huffed and answered the phone without looking at the caller id.

"You better be dying."

"Damn girl, that's how you gon talk to ya' boy?" Rodney asked playfully.

I rolled my eyes and blushed a little, "Boy boom, I didn't look at the caller id." I said as I grabbed my crutches. I set my phone in between my cheek and shoulder and made my way downstairs.

"Mhmm. Anyways, what you doing? And how's that knee?"

"I'm trying to find something to eat, and eh it's okay I guess. I go back for my surgery next week."

"That's good. I wish I could be there, but--"

"You can't Rodney, I know. You tell me every time you call to check up on me." I say chuckling. I started looking in the pantry and found nothing that I liked. I rolled my eyes and went to the fridge and still found nothing.

"Man whatever. Why making allat noise?"

"I'm finding food."

"Awe, well I miss you baby girl."

I smile, "I miss you too."

Rodney and I aren't together. Sometimes I wish we were, but since he's already in the Navy and he's leaving for Vegas right when he comes back, we agreed to remain friends...with benefits. I met Rodney back when I was a sophomore and he was a senior in high school. I will always remember this day.

*Flashback - 2 years ago*

"Because it's the end of the first semester and we have to get ready for finals, I've decided to give you guys a fun math project."

I rolled my eyes as there were groans being made across the class. I hate her projects because whenever she says that they're fun, they always turn out the be boring as hell.

She came around and passed out a sheet of paper to each of us, "So you're going to have to make a rap. You must choose one of the lessons that you learned about this semester. You can work in pairs, in a group of 3 or by yourself. Also, for extra credit you can perform it or make a video because the main points are the lyrics that you will turn into me!"

After she was done talking, everyone began moving to work with their friends while others stayed in their seats. I looked around the class and realized that I don't fuck with anybody in here. I pulled out my notes and started looking over them to see what I wanted to do.

"You wanna work together?" I look up to see Izzy standing there with her things.

I almost said no instantly, but looking at her she looked so lonely. I'm pretty sure I'm the only person she knew in here because of volleyball . I shrug, "Sure." I move my stuff over and she slides in the seat.

"Please tell me you're good at math." I laughed and nodded my head.

She sighed in relief, "Thank god. I don't think you understand how hard I was struggling over there." She said as she pulled out her notes.

"Okay, I got Logarithms and Distance/Midpoint as an option since those are the easiest for me. What about you."

She shook her head, "I'll just go with whatever you do. I can come up with the music and my cousin can help with the lyrics and the video-- oh wait, did you want to do the video?"

"Hell yea, that's extra credit." Izzy laughed and we started working on what to put in our lyrics.

As soon as school was over Izzy suggested that I came over so we can get the lyrics and other stuff over with.

When we got to her house, her mom offered to make us snacks while we worked. I said yes to that of course. I pulled out the notes I took in class while Izzy pulled out her laptop and went to her Spotify. She turned on Holy Ghost by Montana of 300.

I nodded my head to the beat, "Ayee, I like this one."

"Saame." She said laughing, "I'm going to get my cousin so he can help us with these lyrics." She said as she got up. "Rodney!" She yelled standing at the bottom of the stairs. We both waited for an answer, but it never came.

She rolled her eyes and went upstairs. A few minutes later she came down with a light skinned boy not much taller than her. It looked like he just woke up.

"Aight man, what y'all need?" He asked sitting at the counter with us. I'm not even gonna lie, her cousin was fine, but he looked a little older than us.

Izzy set her papers in front of him, "We need help making lyrics for our project." I explain.

He stared at me for a second before talking, "Who are you?" He asked rudely.

I scrunch up my face, "Nigga who are you?" I knew exactly who he was, but just because he just woke up doesn't give him the right to be rude to me.

He huffed in annoyance, "Look man, ion got time for this." He said getting up.

Izzy smacked her teeth, "Rodney would you sit down and stop acting childish."

He mumbled a whatever and gave his attention to Izzy as she explained him the project.

I took Izzy's laptop and replayed Holy Ghost by Montana of 300.

"This is the song." I say to him and he listens carefully.

After the first verse he pulls out a piece of paper and took Izzy's pencil. After writing down whatever he was thinking, he showed us.

"Now we are gathered here today, to hate and to listen to what Ms. Coopa' gotta say. I swear you'on wanna miss this math lesson we have to day." He rapped out to the Holy Ghost beat.

"That was pretty good." I admit. He smirks and runs his hands through his waves.

"I mean y'know I am the best."

I chuckle, "Don't flatter yourself. I mean you cute, but you not my type."

Rodney rubbed his invisible chin hairs, "So what is your type?" He asked leaning closer to my face, smiling.

I stared at him with a blank face before laughing, "Not you." I said and leaned back in my chair.

Izzy just looked at us, "Okayyy. Can we get back to this project please?"

*End of Flashback*

Rodney had always been a flirt with any girl he met, but just a little more with me. We then started talking, but we didn't want Izzy or anyone for that matter to know, so we pretended to not like each other. After a while we decided to stop, but we still try to keep it lowkey.

After talking to Rodney for a couple of more minutes we hung up since he had some stuff to do. I set my phone on the counter and pulled out some popcorn since I couldn't find anything else. Once the popcorn was ready, I made my way to the stairs.

"Okay how we gon do this?" I asked myself. I put my crutches on the stairs first and hoist myself up, successfully landing on the stairs. I put the popcorn bag in my mouth, totally forgetting it just came out the microwave.

As soon as the bag touched my lip, I hissed and dropped the bag from my mouth and it ended up hitting my leg, burning it as well. I flinched hard and felt my myself falling forward. I bent my knee forward, trying to stop myself from hitting my face and I felt a sharp pain coming from my knee.

I cried out in pain and I let go of my crutches as I grabbed my throbbing knee. I rolled over on the stairs, not wanting to move as tears fell down my face.

*

I woke up in my room. How I got here is my question. I checked my phone and saw a missed call from Izzy and texts from the girls asking if I was okay. My door opened and my parents along with the volleyball team.

"You're up!" My mom chirped when she came in.

"What did you do?" Carter asked.

"I dropped a bag of popcorn on my knee trying to go up the stairs."

My mom stale faced me, "What were you doing downstairs, I told you to stay in bed." She scolded me.

I rolled my eyes and shifted in my bed, "I was hungry and nobody was here. What was In supposed to do starve?" I snap. Everyone was silent.

I sighed and slowly moved towards the edge of my bed. I threw the covers off my legs, and everyone gasped.

My eyes widened, was I not wearing any pants? I look down to see a huge bruise on my knee. I felt my eyes watering and I quickly wiped them before anyone could see.

"Damn girl how hard did you fall?" Kai asked.

"I- I don't know. I just know that I was trying not to hit my face on the stair."

I laid back on my bed and sighed. I just want to get this over with so I can start playing volleyball again.

Once everyone left, I stayed in my bed and continued to watch Law & Order and ordered pizza and my dad brought that and popcorn up to my room since I didn't eat earlier. I grabbed my phone and took a picture. I captioned it 'daddy's girl ๐Ÿ˜Œ.' Seconds after posting it, Rodney responded saying 'you right๐Ÿ˜.' I laughed to myself and continued to eat my pizza.

As I was stuffing my face with popcorn, the doorbell rang. I frowned and checked my phone to see that it was 8 going on 9. Who could possibly be at the door this late?

I heard my mom answer the door, the voice sounded like a boy which is weird because besides Rodney, no boy knows where I live. There were heavy footsteps coming up the stairs and my room door opened.

Adam poked his head in, "Hey! How you feeling?" I just stared at him.

"How did you find my house?" I asked crossing my arms over my chest.

"I asked Ali." He shrugged as he sat down on the edge of my bed. I already don't like that girl, why would she give him my address?

"What are you doing here?"

He stared at me before talking, "I just wanted to see how you were doing jeez. I can't come see how my friend is handling her injury?"

"Not when you're involved with Ali."

"We broke up."

My eyes widen, "Really, why?"

"She was just too much for me. Like she would always accuse me of cheating or trying to talk to other girls while we were together in public. I mean come on! While we're in public together. Do you know how stupid that sounds? First of all I would never do that to a girl and she knows that. Like is she that insecure?" He vented.

I didn't say anything, but he continued to vent.

"And she's so controlling and uugghhh. I just needed a break from her." I said, running his hand through his hair.

"Sooo, is that all you came here for, or..."

He didn't say anything, so I shrugged and stuffed more popcorn in my mouth and turned my attention back to Law & Order that was still playing. I then felt him grab my face and press his lips onto mine. I froze, but quickly snapped back to reality. I pushed him back and punched him in the stomach.

"Boy are you crazy? Matta' fact, you must be if you think it's okay to kiss me." I snap, "Get the fuck out."

He stood up from my bed and stormed out of my room. What the hell is wrong with people now a days?
