All the talent in the world won't take you anywhere without your teammates

*4 Months Later - September*
It's now a month into college and the volleyball season, and I'm still trying to adjust to both. We have a game tomorrow against Ole Miss. I have classes all day tomorrow, but I can only go to my morning ones. All of my professors have my schedule, they know when I'll be there or not.
As for my girls, we still talk in the group chat almost everyday and I miss them so much. Mya said that she doesn't hang with anyone other than her roommate and her cousin. Liana and Allana have gotten closer since they're roommates now and Liana is playing for UTSA, but Allana isn't. Miracle is at Hampton University in Virginia and she loves it. She isn't playing volleyball, but she said that she joined a lot of clubs to keep her busy. Kailah is down at Texas Southern University. She isn't playing either, but she says that he classes keep her busy already.
Carter is University of Michigan playing volleyball, but I have a feeling like she's going to quit in the near future. Marcey is at the University of Washington in Seattle. She is playing volleyball, and she absolutely loves her team She loves it up there as well, but she hates all the rain. We also became cool with Ali again, and it's good to have her back. She's at the University of Florida playing, but she said that her school is way to big for her liking, so she might transfer to a smaller school.
And me? I haven't made that many friends here besides my roommate, Niyah and her twin sister, Nina. They both play basketball which is really cool. There aren't that many freshmen on the volleyball team either. But there's only one sophomore on the team who talks to me. Her name is Taylor, and she pretty much shows me the ropes about the volleyball program since no one else will; she also became my permanent pepper partner. Of course there are other freshmen, but they're white, and they refuse to talk to me unless they have to.
I also play a different position instead of outside or middle. I play right side now, and I love it. It's not the easiest position, but it's definitely easier than playing middle or outside. They switched me because I wasn't tall enough to be a middle on their team, and I agree. All the girls who play middle are 6 feet and taller. I still don't play back row, but I don't mind that either.
"Great practice today ladies! Remember that your bags need to be packed for tomorrows game since we will be leaving the school at noon." Coach Dawson yelled out. I grabbed my towel off the ground and made my way to the locker room with the rest of the girls.
My legs and stomached ached as I walked to my locker. We mostly conditioned today, and we did a little six on six, but that was towards the end of practice. As much as I love volleyball, I hated conditioning. I slipped of my shoes and knee pads before stuffing them in my volleyball bag. I put on my running shorts and slides, grabbed my bag and headed out the door.
The sky was dark once I stepped outside. I rushed back to my dorm since I hated walking in the dark, and I really needed to shower. There are showers in the locker room, but I don't like showering in there; I don't know why though.
It's really humid in Baton Rouge, even at night sometimes and I hate it. Every time I try to wear my hair natural or straight, it always becomes frizzy by the time I step outside. Which is why most of the time I always wear my hair up in a bun or ponytail.
The walk back to my dorm was pretty quiet. There were a couple of people still out walking around, but they're most likely coming from their night classes or anywhere else they were at.
I honestly hated how my dorm is so far away from the gym is. It literally took me twenty minutes just to get back to my dorm, and since freshmen can't have cars I have to walk. I pulled out my phone and headphones just to make the walk back to my dorm seem a little quicker.
As I was walking it felt like someone was watching me. I turned and saw someone in a bright red hoodie and black jeans. I quickly turned back around and picked up my pace and turned off my music so that I could hear if the person is coming or not. I listened closely and heard nothing behind me, but I still kept my pace fast just to get to my dorm.
Once I made it safely to my dorm, I scanned in and ran upstairs. My legs were killing me, but I just needed to take a shower and lay down.
As I was walking down the hall, someone was blasting LUV by Tory Lanez. I laughed out loud once I realized that the music was coming from my dorm. I unlocked the door, and saw Niyah and Nina dancing on the beds. I stood at the door until Nina turned around and jumped when she saw me.
"Y'all are a mess." I laughed as I walked to my bed. I sat my bag down and got my stuff to prepare for my shower.
"We know." They said in unison. Once LUV was done playing, they turned on a song that I'd never heard before.
"Break dat bitch down, show em who da' sickest,
Show em how we do, when they come to jigga city!" Niyah rapped along.
"Break dat bitch down, break dat bitch down
Break dat, break dat,
Break dat bitch down!" Nina rapped the next part.
They then began doing some weird dance that went along with the song. I just stared at them laughing because they looked ridiculous. All I could say is, that dance looked like it was a workout. Once the song was over, they were out of breath and it looked like they were starting the break a sweat.
"So, what's a jigga city?" I asked once they caught their breaths.
They both stopped what they were doing, and looked at me as if I had shocked them.
"You're kidding right?" Nina asked, "Oh wait, you from up north. I forgot they don't listen to this up there." She said.
I chuckled and nodded, "Yea. So what kind of dance was y'all doing?"
"That? Oh that's calling jigging." Niyah explained. I guess I still looked confused because she just sighed and said that it was a Louisiana thing.
I shrugged, and grabbed my things for my shower. I lived in a community styled dorm, so each floor had two bathrooms; one for each side.
I made my way to the bathroom with my shower shoes on and shower caddy, and clothes in my hand. There weren't that many girls in the bathroom mainly because most of the girls take their showers in the morning. Knowing me, I struggle with getting up in the morning, so getting up really early is not for me.
I took the the shower on the end and set my things on the bench outside of it. I started my shower and waited for it to get hot before stripping out of my clothes. I grabbed my body wash and towel and immediately started washing up.
Nothing is wrong with the bathroom, it's just that I'm really exhausted and I want to lay down. I heard other girls coming in and out of the bathroom while I washed up.
Once I was done, I rinsed off and cut off the shower. I got dressed in some pajama shorts and a large LSU shirt. I got back to my room and there was another girl sitting on my bed talking to Niyah and Nina. I frowned as I threw my dirty clothes in the hamper and set my shower caddy back in my closet.
"Who are you?" I asked.
The girl looked taken aback by my question, "Who are you?" She asked with an attitude.
I shifted my weight to my hip, "You're in my room, so I don't have to tell you who I am." I shot back at her. Niyah and Nina just stood there watching everything unfold.
"Yo Niyah who dis' bitch talkin' ta' me like she crazy?" The girl snapped. Her accent was strong.
I raised an eyebrow and looked at Niyah, "Who this bitch think she getting buck with?" I also snapped towards Niyah.
Niyah looked between us with her eyes wide, "Um, Izzy this is my cousin Tiana. Tiana this is my roommate Izzy." Niyah introduced us.
Tiana and I just mugged each other.
"So you gon get off my bed or nah?" I asked. Tiana stared at me for a second before sliding off my bed, making my sheets come off.
I see these southern bitches like trying people. I thought as I looked at her sideways.
She looked behind her and smirked, "Oops." She said before she brushed passes me, bumping my shoulder and walking out of the room.
I sighed in annoyance, "Niyah, Nina."
"Yes?" They said in unison.
"Get your cousin before I do. Okay?"
"Yea. I'm sorry about her. She didn't tell us that she was stopping by. And I forgot that she has a very bad attitude." Nina explained.
I waved her off, "It's okay. As log as she stays out of my way, Tiana and I won't have problem." I smiled at them and pulled out my LSU duffle bag, "Now if you'll excuse me, I have to pack for tomorrow's game." I said.
