Chapter 22 - The Course of Action

Based on the outcome of being at the enemy's main base, the plan would also change.

Let's go back about a day or two before I left for Nato's base.

"So you're saying you can sneak in, and get information from him before we attack?" Kayla asked, obviously concerned for my safety as always. Just like a mom.

"Yes. I promise I'll be safe Kayla. I will be there, learn stuff and follow through with the best course of action." I said, holding a stick of dynamite up.

"When it comes to it, we use these and those bigger bombs over there to take Nato out in a fiery death," I said, putting the dynamite back in its unorganized pile.

Kayla nodded but pleaded that I stayed safe. I promised her once again.

"Nice work Taku. I will come up with a plan and we will start our attack soon enough." He said, but I was smiling, not because of his plan, but because our attack would happen a lot sooner.

I headed to the gate that night. I opened it slightly and waved out to the treeline, where Miko and the rest of the hunters waited. I could see Kayla and Byul faintly behind the trees.

I walked around a house and waited. Finally, they entered quietly, we made our way to the town hall.

Nato was outside and turned to look at us. He smiled and began speaking. "I should have known. Taku- no... Cal." He says, slightly walking closer.

"You want to know the name I gave to my ability?" He smirks, his eyes seem to spark.

"Electric Love." He says, and the sparks in his eyes explode, sending some kind of shockwave outward. It burned and hurt a lot, we were not only being burnt but also electrocuted.

I tried to stand my ground but got blown back. I could Jian fly further back, hitting the wall.

Miko, who was holding the gasoline, quickly dropped them, they opened and were ablaze. The fire spread everywhere.

Nato just stood there, the spark coming out of every inch of his body. He was just smiling.

Markus shot Nato, but the wind speed was slowing down the bullet, so it only hit him in the stomach.

More gunshots rang out from the walls, enemy soldiers were either shooting at us, or at Nato. Our team was just focused on Nato.

This ability was too strong. My ability... was to turn things into Pathogens, or revert them back to regular humans if they were one... why did I get such a power I cannot really use, while he got this extreme ability?!

I wanted to scream.

To cry.

To lie down.

To fight.

I raised my hand and shot finger bullets at him, I had used the five on my left hand, and the five on my right hand, and while being shocked, I realized I couldn't heal. My finger bones weren't coming back and the skin wasn't healing either.

I screamed in pain and heard a rumbling in my head.

***

I closed my eyes for a moment, all of the sounds vanished. No houses being blown apart, no sound of screams of crashing metal.

Just silence.

"Cal." A voice echoed in the dark vast emptiness I now resided in.

I didn't say anything, I just felt numb. I had trouble just lifting my hand to see something coiled around a brain.

"Cal." It repeated.

This time I answered.

"What... are you?" I managed to say, wondering if I was here because I died or something.

"Your Pathogenic Side." It spoke louder, it's voice still rough and distorted.

"I am the one who takes over and speaks my mind sometimes. Markus heard quite a bit from me already." It said. "I can take control whenever, but I mainly need your permission. Do I have your permission to fight for you?" It spoke.

The coiled up thing, which introduced itself as my Pathogenic Side, wanted to fight for me.

It looked like a small intestine, wrapped around my brain. It was dark and had the texture of a slimy worm.

"I'm gross right now. I know, but with power and training, I'll begin to transform and be able to activate your Pathogenic Form, like what Pathogens can do." It said, sounding happy.

I had seen many Pathogens use their Pathogenic Forms. All are unique, much like their abilities. It all depends on the Pathogen's class. A shooter like I thought I was, would have their bones sticking out of their fingers, ready to shoot. A more powerful one would actually have a bone gun.

Pathogenic Forms are actually quite gross. Their "skin" looks just like muscle underneath their skin, and bones just stick out of that muscle. Their faces are the scariest thing though.

"How does it sound?" It asked, laughing quite mockingly.

"You'll just kill people I care for," I said, looking around as if there were an exit.

"Do you care for Nato?" It asked.

"No." I said.

"Then let me kill him, and only him. If you'd like, you can watch."

I began considering it.

"Fine... don't get anyone other than Nato killed," I said angrily.

***

My eyes jolted open, but I was no longer in control of my body. It leaped from building to building, hiding behind cover as it got progressively closer to Nato.

My own arm, out of my control, reached into my leg and pulled out a bone, the bone transformed into a sharp-looking blade. I didn't even know I could do that... if I wasn't a Shooter only... was I a Switcher?

"Prepare." The voice echoed around my head again.

I was nervous.

My body jumped out of the cover and rushed to Nato, being slightly pushed away, but seemingly running fast enough to get close to Nato.

My body, no... my arm, stabbed into Nato. I closed my eyes, but the sounds of stabbing continued.

Abruptly, the wind died down, the burning stopped.

I opened my eyes to see Nato healing, crawling away slowly.

My body lurched forward and landed on top of him. It held the blade above his throat, ready to kill Nato.

It stopped and dropped the blade. Instead, it pierced Nato's forehead with my right pointer finger. It dug deep and began wriggling around. I felt something crawl out of my finger and wrap around something. My body pulled backward and out came a worm-like creature bigger than the one I saw in my own brain.

The thing wiggled and tried to fight back, but the worm-like tendril that came out of my finger began circling it, until it was covered by the tendril.

The tendril made a sucking motion and kept getting smaller until eventually, it went back into my finger.

The huge thing in Nato's head was gone. The worm-like tendril... had eaten it?

I felt sick as something landed in my stomach.

"He won't stay gone forever. I removed his Pathogenic Abilities and Form for now, but in a couple of years, it will regrow and come back as if it never died. Get him in a jail cell or something before then."

The voice said in my head.

I didn't even hear Markus, Kayla, and Byul running toward me, but they were now next to me.

Miko ran up as well, holding Nato down and tying his hands and legs together multiple times. Nato was unconscious, but his head wound healed.

Miko put Nato on his horse and began to tie him to the horse. He walked with us and we heard Pika screaming for us.

We rushed over.

The worst thing I'd ever seen was in front of me.
