Markus was being nothing short of kind to me the next day. Jax and his friends ganged up on me and would have surely won if it weren't for Markus.
He stepped in front of me and pushed Jax back. Markus was definitely more popular than Jax, and Jax knew it. Markus could date any girl he wanted to date, and yet he didn't. Being rich and popular was a good thing for him.
Jax knew he would have to step down, or he would ruin his own reputation. Jax was humiliated and I couldn't be happier.
"Thanks Markus. You didn't need to step in there." I said, shaking his outstrecheted hand. Markus was taller than me by a couple inches. He had to be about 6 feet tall, while I barely made it over 5'11".
Markus despite looking really threatening when walking around, was actually really kind and caring.
Markus opened my hand up and put something in my hand, closing it and walking away as if nothing happened. I walked to my next class... Biology.
Once in Biology, I looked at my palm and could see he had placed not only money in my hand, but also a small piece of paper with something inside. The paper was rather heavy and had something big inside. I began unwrapping the paper when-
"Cal? Did you hear what I just said?" Ms. Jakobs asked me quite loudly now. I quickly looked up and apologized for spacing out, putting the money and paper into my pocket. I resumed working on my new biology project which was to be done in school.
I finished it rather quickly and received half of the full grade for my work. I was fine with that. I made my way into the hallway and near my next class. This next class I would have Byul... but I still had Kayla and Markus.
Kayla was seated next to me on the seating chart while Markus was pushed to the back of the room. I was chatting with Kayla about some stupid stuff after the teacher left the room. Kayla left to use the restroom and Markus took her seat, putting one leg over the other and asking me if I looked into the paper.
"Why are you doing this for me?" I asked, but I knew what he'd say. "I saw you at the store a while back, you had barely any money to buy food. I wanted to help you out. Anyway, just open the paper, it's not like it's a knife or anything dangerous." He returned to his own seat.
Breathing heavily for no reason whatsoever, I opened the paper and could see a brand new watch, I turned and stared at him, curious as to why he had been buying me such things for no reason. I tried it on, and upon putting it on, it displayed my full names in bold text, projecting it's screen like a holograph just slightly above it.
"Calibrum Corvus, age 17, Blood Type: M+" I was surprised as to how it knew so much, but I assumed it may have just linked itself to my school or home accounts.
The thing was... my school and home accounts didn't have my blood type. I lifted the watch a bit, and found out that it had just pricked me. I was slightly bleeding and the watch was covering my wound with a small liquid.
I was quite surprised that it could fix wounds. I searched through the apps on the watch and found I was now able to browse the web and call people without my phone or having to go on my computer at home.
Kayla arrived back at class and so I hid my watch so she wouldn't question me about how I got such an expensive device, but she held her wrist up and showed me her's.
"He got you one too? Whew... I thought you would be jealous of my cool watch." Kayla said, sitting down next to me once again. I was quite curious of something, and so I just asked what was on my mind.
"What did it say your blood type was? I know there is like A,B,O,AB... but what was yours?" She looked back at her watch and showed me, to which she was a "O-"
I was surprised, and told her what she could do. "If you were to donate blood, you could literally give your blood to save any blood type!" she ignored me and asked what mine was, at first I was a little hesitant to show her, but she knew of my Pathogenic Abilities anyway.
I turned my watch to face her, and instead of the M+ it was displaying earlier, it just displayed AB+.
"Cool! You can receive from anyone!" I smiled and looked back at my watch, puzzled as to why I was now showing up as an AB+. As soon as Kayla looked away, the AB+ faded and brought back the M+.

After school, I was at home, on my computer just chilling around on the web. I heard a knock on my door and upon looking through the peephole, I could see Markus waving.
I let him inside and he and I just talked while searching the web. Making new friends sure was weird... especially since I had just known Byul and Kayla up until now.

I headed to the fence to show him Kayla and my wilderness area. He followed me outside of the fence and we were now in Pathogen territory. We proceeded up-hill to the forest. Upon reaching the forest, we could hear a cracking sound as something walked closer.
Markus opened his backpack and pulled out a large blade. I was surprised, hoping he didn't have that at school earlier. We both stared in the direction of the noise.
That's when it hit me. I couldn't use my abilities here. The only ones who knew of my Pathogenic Powers were Byul and Kayla, so I would have to just use my fists for now.
A large Pathogen flew at us in a flurry of rage, to which Markus managed to slice the thing into pieces without being pushed a single inch backward. Blood flew onto his face and he simply wiped it off and threw his handkerchief onto the ground afterward.
"Shouldn't we return home now?" He asked. "I would hate to see you die, I would only blame myself and Kayla would kill me." His tone was... different and strange, but I agreed and we entered the gated community once again.
We both returned to my house and he was looking at the pictures of my parents I had on my desk.
"Was your dad really a Pathogen?" He asked quietly, holding the framed photo in his hand.
"Yeah. I remember from an early age... he would bring bottles of blood home. My mother knew all along and one day..."
I had trouble continuing, and he told me it was okay to stop... I decided to continue.

"Calibrum... I want you to run as fast as you can to the edge of the farm... and keep running past the small fence... make it to the town nearby and survive!" My mother said, pushing me away and closing the back door as people broke through the front door. All I heard was screaming and crying and gunshots went off and my mother went quiet. My father was home, but he never made a sound as he died.
I survived while my mother and father died by hunters. Protecting a Pathogen, even marrying one, was extremely taboo and illegal. My mother had committed a horrible crime and died for it. I wish I could have saved her then.

"I see... I'm really sorry for what happened... they could have just taken your dad." Markus said, to which I agreed. He fed off of innocent people, killing innocent people... he was a monster.
"I wish he would have died on his own when he was away from home... that way my mom and I would still be okay," I said, voicing my anger in an extreme way.
Markus put the photo down and we both noticed how dark it had gotten outside.
"Is it alright if I sleep on that couch? I wouldn't want to be caught outside at this time... I imagine the punishment will be instant death." I contemplated it but eventually decided to just let him stay the night. I headed upstairs to my room and remained in there for the night, constantly re-living that horrid tragedy that happened only 4 years ago.
