Chereads / Happy | Demi Lovato / Chapter 11 - 11

Chapter 11 - 11

CHARLIE'S POV

I slowly opened my eyes just to instantly close them after because I was being blinded by a bunch of white. That's when I remembered that I was in the hospital. I went to quickly sit up, but someone stopped me.

"Easy, easy!" Mom panicked. I slowly relaxed on the bed again.

"How are you feeling, bug?" Dallas questioned.

"Better.." I smiled a weak smile.

"That's good." Dad smiled back at me.

"Where's Demi and Maddie?" I asked as I saw they weren't in the room.

"We got the food!" Maddie exclaimed as she entered the room. Speak of the devil. Demi and Maddie came in carrying bags of Taco Bell. After Demi handed everyone their food, she looked over and saw I was awake.

"You're awake!" Demi smiled as she quickly hugged me.

"Too tight!" I laughed and winced after.

"I'm sorry." She frowned and then got on the bed next to me. I raised an eyebrow at her as to ask what she was doing but she didn't answer. "How are you feeling, baby girl?"

"Better, but sore." I answered. "There's only so much space on this bed, Dems." I laughed slightly.

"Can't a person cuddle with their baby sister?" Demi questioned as she grabbed the food she got from Taco Bell. "Open." She commanded as she took a piece off her taco. I pushed it away and shook my head. Demi gave me the look as if to say if I didn't she would tell Mom and Dad.

"Aren't you hungry?" Mom asked worriedly.

"I'm not hungry." I answered.

"You should eat a little bit." Demi stated. I sighed as I took a bite of Demi's food.

'You know how much calories are in that? You're already too fat.'

I instantly hid my face and clung onto Demi.

DEMI'S POV

After I gave Charlie a bite of my food, it looked like she was lost in her own mind. She instantly hid her face and clung onto me. I wrapped my arm around her protectively and sighed.

"She's fine." I told Mom and Eddie, as they both looked worried. I'll tell them about everything tomorrow. I just have to find out why Charlie doesn't want to tell them first. There was then a knock on the door as the doctor came in.

"Hello, I'm Doctor Cooper. I see that Charlie is awake." Doctor Cooper smiled. "I'm here to check her vitals and then I'll be on my way." He said as he came over to her bed. I went to get up, but Charlie grabbed ahold of me.

"Charlie, I have to get out of the way for a bit." I told her.

"You can stay put if you want. It won't be an issue." He reassured us. Charlie pulled me back down on the bed as the doctor started checking her vitals. "Everything is looking good. Any questions?" He asked as he stopped at the door.

"How long am I going to be in here for?" Charlie asked quietly.

"You'll be staying the night and be able to go home tomorrow." He answered.

"Can one of us stay with her tonight?" Mom questioned.

"Yes, only one person can." He told us before exiting the room.

"C-Can Demi stay with me?" Charlie asked nervously.

CHARLIE'S POV

"C-Can Demi stay with me?" I asked nervously. I didn't want to hurt any of their feelings, but I needed Demi.

"Of course." Dad smiled.

"What time is it?" I asked them.

"It's 6:00 PM. Visiting hours are almost over." Dallas frowned.

"Demi, you should go pack a bag for tonight." Mom told her.

"You're right. Charlie, you want me to bring anything back?" Demi questioned.

"My phone, phone charger, and my song notebook." I answered.

"Okay, got it." Demi smiled after she put her phone away.

"You had to write it down?" Maddie asked, laughing a bit.

"I'm a forgetful person!" Demi defended herself.

"It goes downhill as soon as you get older, Dems." I joked. Demi stuck her tongue out at me and flipped me off before leaving the room, causing me to laugh.

"Demetria Devonne Lovato!" Mom exclaimed, causing me to laugh more.

———————————————

"I love you, baby girl." Mom said as she hugged me goodbye for the hundredth time.

"You're going to see me tomorrow." I giggled at her.

"I know, but it's a whole night!" She exclaimed.

"How are you going to survive when I'm in LA with Demi?" I questioned.

"I'll just have to remember it's one less child to take care of." Mom joked.

This is one reason you shouldn't be alive.

She's just joking. She doesn't mean it. I fought back with my demons.

Are you sure about that?

"Charlie, are you okay?" Dallas snapped her fingers in my face.

"Uh, yeah." I gave them a reassuring smile. We all hugged goodbye one more time before they left the room.

"You should show me more of your songs!" Demi squealed as soon as they left.

"Do I have to?" I feigned a whine.

"Yes." Demi stated simply. I sighed as she handed me over her song book.

"I guess just pick one." I told her. Demi went through each song and pointed to one.

"This one." Demi smiled.

"Looks like I'm singing a cappella." I smiled sheepishly.

I know it's all you've got to just be strong

And it's a fight just to keep it together, together

I know you think that you are too far gone

But hope is never lost

Hope is never lost

Hold on, don't let go, hey

Hold on, don't let go

Just take one step closer

Put one foot in front of the other

You'll get through this

Just follow the light in the darkness

You're gonna be okay

I know your heart is heavy from those nights

But just remember that you are a fighter, a fighter

You never know just what tomorrow holds

And you're stronger than you know

You're stronger than you know

Hold on, don't let go, hey

Hold on, don't let go

Just take one step closer

Put one foot in front of the other

You'll get through this

Just follow the light in the darkness

One step closer

Put one foot in front of the other

You'll get through this

Just follow the light in the darkness

You're gonna be okay

And when the night is closing in

Don't give up and don't give in

This won't last, it's not the end

It's not the end

You're gonna be okay

When the night is closing in

Don't give up and don't give in

This won't last, it's not the end

It's not the end

You're gonna be okay

"When did you write this?" Demi questioned.

"It was a little over a year ago.. I was.. uh.. are you sure you want to know?" I asked nervously.

"Yes, I want to know." Demi replied.

- FLASHBACK -

I kept reading the note that Trent gave me as I sat locked up in my bedroom. Maybe Trent is right. No one would miss me. I should just end it all. I grabbed my pen, my notebook, and my blade and put it all in my backpack. I slung my backpack over my shoulder as I went downstairs.

"Where are you going, baby girl?" Mom asked as she was putting away clean dishes.

"I'm going for a walk. It might be a while." I told her as I put on a pair of shoes.

"Be careful, okay? It's dark out." She told me. I nodded before I exited the house. I walked for a good thirty minutes or so before I arrived at a bridge. I sat on the edge of the bridge as I pulled out my blade, pen, and notebook.

- TRIGGER WARNING -

I rolled up my sleeves and dragged the shiny piece of metal against my arm. I watched as the blood trickled down my arm. The pain from cutting helps me forget about everything bad. I did about ten cuts before I felt satisfied.

- TRIGGER WARNING OVER -

I then opened up my notebook and started writing. I wanted to die, but I knew if I did then my family wouldn't be happy. I hate that they wouldn't be happy if I died because I would be happy if I died. I sighed as I continued writing the song.

- FLASHBACK OVER -

"Yeah.. That's when I wrote it." I told her everything.

"Was that the first time you felt like you wanted to die?" Demi asked, tears in her eyes.

"Yes.." I answered truthfully. "Please don't cry, Dem Dem." I whispered.

"I love you so much, baby girl. I don't know what I would do without you." Demi pulled me into her embrace.

"I knew I could've called you.. I could've called you the first time I harmed myself.. but I was holding a grudge against you." I spoke quietly. "Would I be happier if I called you after I hurt myself the first time?"

"I don't know, baby. I don't know." Demi answered as she held me tighter. "I do know I would've came down as soon as possible to see you."

"You were on your Tell Me You Love Me tour." I told her. "Probably why I didn't call you also.."

"I would've came down anyways. Family comes first." She reassured me. We sat in silence for a bit, but it wasn't an uncomfortable silence.

"Can we watch some crime shows before bed?" I asked her.

"I thought you would never ask!" Demi smiled excitedly as she pulled out her laptop.

"You do know there's a TV in here right?"

"Yes, but it's so small and far away." Demi stated. "This would be better than the TV." She proceeded to turn on her laptop and opened up Netflix.

"There's so many Netflix originals." I told her.

"No way, I never realized that we were on Netflix." Demi replied sarcastically. "Oh! Let's watch this." She suggested as she played a Netflix original. It was called Unsolved Mysteries.

"Okay." I smiled at her excitement. Before the first episode was finished, my eyes started closing but I kept forcing myself to stay awake.

"You can sleep, baby girl." Demi looked over at me.

"Goodnight. I love you." I mumbled as I closed my eyes.

"I love you more." Demi replied as she brushed my hair behind my ear. I ended up falling asleep to Demi comfortingly playing with my hair.
