Chapter 6 - 06

CHARLIE'S POV

- FLASHBACK -

Our whole family was in LA for the month because Maddie had some filming projects to do and Demi's birthday was next month. I was currently getting ready to go to Demi's place to have a sleepover tonight. Mom, Dad, and Demi thought it would be a good idea to do some sister bonding. I was dumb and decided to pack last minute. I was dreading this sleepover almost like how I dreaded school.

"Where is she?" I heard Demi's voice ask downstairs. I made sure my sleeves were rolled down because if Demi saw my cuts, it would be the end of me. I finished packing and I made sure I hid my blade good enough.

"Perfection." I told Harley, who is Maddie's bearded dragon. Mads and I share a room in LA. It's annoying sometimes, but we're not in LA often so it's bearable. We're lucky Demi has a private jet because if she didn't, we wouldn't be able to bring our pets to LA. I picked up Maddie's bearded dragon and let him chill on my shoulder. I smiled at him as he likes sitting there for warmth when my hair is down. (A/N: I'll have you know, my cousin has a bearded dragon and she always sits on my shoulder.)

"Are you ready, baby girl?" Demi's voice asked me as she opened my bedroom door.

"Isn't Maddie your baby girl?" I asked, my voice like venom. I put Harley back in his glass enclosure. "And I guess I'm ready." I shoved passed her and walked outside the house.

The whole night Demi seemed kinda off, but I might've been imagining things. Kelsey Kershner, who is Demi's assistant, was also sleeping over. Probably to make sure we didn't rip each other apart.. or to make sure I didn't rip Demi apart because I knew Demi didn't hate me, I just hated her. Kelsey is fun though at least.

Little did I know, that the next day was going to be one of the hardest days of my life.

"Go tell Demi that breakfast is ready." Kelsey told me.

"What if she's asleep?" I asked her.

"Then wake her up." She answered. I gave a thumbs up and went to Demi's room.

"Demi? Breakfast is ready." I said as I entered her room. I looked over at Demi sleeping in her bed and she didn't look good. "Demi? Demi!" I tried shaking her awake. "Wake up, please! T-This isn't funny!" I cried out, thinking it was a prank. I realized it wasn't. "K-Kelsey!" Seconds later, Kelsey came running in. Everything was a blur and I don't remember much of it. All I kept thinking was that I couldn't lose her.

- FLASHBACK OVER -

I bolt upright when I woke up, drenched in cold sweat. It was still dark out, but I looked to my right and Demi wasn't there. I panicked, afraid that I was going to lose her again. I jumped out of bed and ran downstairs.

"Charlie, why are you awake?" I heard Dallas ask me. I looked over and saw Dallas sitting in the living room.

"W-Where's Demi?" I stuttered as Dallas came over to me.

"What's wrong, bug?" Dallas asked, not answering my question as she pulled me into a hug.

"I need Demi!" I screamed and cried. I don't know why I suddenly became so attached to Demi.

DEMI'S POV

I got out of the shower, putting on a baggy black and red AC/DC t-shirt and gray sweatpants.

"I need Demi!" I heard Charlie scream and cry from downstairs as I exited the bathroom. "Let me go!" She screamed louder. It sounded like bloody murder. It's a miracle our parents didn't wake up. I ran downstairs and I saw Dallas trying to calm her down. As soon as Charlie saw me, she managed to get out of Dallas' grip.

"Charlie-" I got cut off as Charlie threw herself in my arms.

"You said you wouldn't leave!" Charlie's cries were muffled. "W-When I woke up you weren't there, Demi!" It concerned me how attached she has gotten but I'm not complaining. She spent four years ignoring me every chance she got. I also found it kind of cute.

"Charlie, I was taking a shower." I spoke in a soothing voice. "I promise I'm not going to leave you, baby girl." I went to let go and she tightened her hold on me. I sighed as I picked her up in my arms. My eyes widened as I felt how light she was. Was she always this light or am I imagining things? I brought her back up to my room and tried to put her down in my bed.

"Don't leave." Charlie mumbled.

"I'm not leaving, I just have to go on my side of the bed." I told her gently. Charlie hesitated to let go of me, but she did. I got on my side of the bed and she cuddled up next to me as I got comfortable. "What happened, baby girl?"

"I had a nightmare.." She whispered. I looked at her, giving the signal for her to continue. "I.. It was the day you overdosed. W-When I saw you weren't by me when I woke up, I thought you left me." She choked out.

"I'm so sorry, Charlie. I promise I'm not going to leave you. I'm doing so much better and you all know that." I comforted her.

"I know, but I'm scared it will happen again." Charlie whispered.

"It's not going to happen again, doll." I reassured her. Charlie's eyes widened and that's when I realized I called her doll. She rushed to the toilet, me right behind her, and she puked into it.

"I-I'm sorry." Charlie stuttered as she got up and flushed the toilet. She proceeded to wash her face.

"What is it about that word that makes you throw up every time?" I questioned her as we made our way back over to my bed. "Please, be honest with me." I pleaded.

"I-I can't say, Demi. He told me not to." She whimpered.

"Who's he? Did someone hurt you? Was it one of the bullies?" I asked a ton of questions.

"I don't know. Yes. No." She answered each of the questions.

"What did he do?" I asked, trying to hide the worry in my voice.

"I can't say. I'm sorry." Charlie spoke faintly. I let out a sigh.

"How about this. You and I can go have a sister day tomorrow, do some shopping and go out to eat." I started saying. Charlie's eyes filled with fear as I mentioned eating, but I decided not to mention it. "Then we can go see a movie and when we get home, you can tell me what happened." I suggested.

"I guess." Charlie answered as she cuddled into my side. I held onto her protectively as she fell asleep because she's my sister and she needs me.
