They both walk onto the stone terrace, Ellyn, more reluctant than Joel. As Ellyn slowly approaches the platform, she fidgets with her long grey hair, shifting her green eyes everywhere. In contrast, Joel approached with coolness as a cucumber. They both stand at the two ends of the platform.
While Joel goes barehanded, Ellyn uses a wooden staff. With that wooden staff, chants are shortened and easier to invoke. Still, everyone expected Joel to win the match.
Viscar claps his hands, "You can begin whenever you're ready."
Ellyn's eyes widen, "What?" In a violent gust of wind, Joel lets out a roar that echoes throughout the arena. Joel fists his hands and smiles cockily as his violet eyes light up. Like he was itching for a battle. He speeds up to Ellyn, already panicked, she rushes out. "Ice Magic: [Ice Wall]."
An ice wall appears in front of her; it was brittle compared to her usual spell but it delayed Joel's incoming fist for a few seconds.
She runs to where he came from, trying to create some distance. "Ice Magic: [Ice Lance]." A big chunk of ice, the size, and shape of a spear rushes towards Joel. He frowns as he twists his body to dodge it. He had expected this to be over fast, he wanted it to be.
He increases his speed, pushing his body further.
"[Ice Lance]; [Ice Lance]; [Ice Lance]..." She chants repeatedly, hoping for a hit-in.
"Waaa! A continuous chant?!"
"No wonder she's in the Hero class. She has a rare element and a continuous chant skill?!"
"I know right? What a cheat." The murmurs of jealousy and admiration, still present even in a class of unique students.
"Ugh," Just as she had wished for, Joel had an injury on his leg. It was bleeding profusely, but he looked more angry than hurt.
He growls as he rips the ice projectile from his thigh, "You bitch." He snarls. Ellyn, at the other side of the platform, points her staff at him while still shaking. "Ice Magic: [Snow Blizzard]!" She yells desperately as she watches on her status as her mana gauge empties out.
Joel slows down visibly, as the cold air rushes into his wound freezing him from the inside. Joel hisses but continues. His golden hair whips around in the wind, and his fingers soon become numb. Ellyn cowers at the edge of the stage; she had no mana left.
She couldn't do anything, and the person in front of her looked like he was losing his reasoning.
Joel roars again, this time louder than the last. His eyes completely black, like his pupils were enlarged. He leaps from his far distance, he seemed to be closing the distance at a tremendous rate. Ellyn squeaks, "Ice Magic: [Ice Wa-" She coughs up blood. She felt her chest burn painfully; she had forgotten that she had no mana left.
Joel lands a few inches away from her crouched figure. He raises his hand into the air, giving everyone a close look at his clawed hands. He swipes at her, but he finds himself in the air, flying towards the stands.
"Well," Viscar started with a disappointed tone. "That was a mess." He walks up to Ellyn and throws her over his shoulder, he mumbles words under his breath and the ground shakes for a moment. A hand forms from the ground under Joel, it moves towards Viscar and places Joel at his feet.
Holding both students on his shoulders, he yells out, "Next is Matthew and Alice! Make the show worth it!" He takes his seat, after laying both injured students.
No one moved for a while, "What are you waiting for? Go on, I haven't got all day."
"Yes sir!" Alice chirps with a confident smile as she walked onto the stage. Matt nervously scrambled after her, clutching a staff of his own. Both of them took their positions, "You can attack first, I don't mind. But you have to give up when you can no longer go on."
Matt narrows his eyes at Alice's words, but he still nods. "It's a deal." He agrees with a smile, "So, let's keep this friendly."
"Unique: [Iron Body]." While she chants, she is surrounded by a shiny liquid that emerges from the ground. It melts into her skin and coats her entire body. "Come!" She shouts as she crosses her arms and protects her face.
Matthew closes his eyes, he had enough time to concentrate. "Water Magic: [Water Shot]!" He yells out, expelling a sizable amount of water at Alice. Although she faces it head-on, it doesn't hurt her. It just leaves her feeling like she took a bath.
As usual, the laughter begins. With clenched teeth, Matt fired, again and again, each time losing an equivalent amount of mana. "[Water Lance]...[Water Shot]...[Water Lance]...Shot]...Lance]"
A few minutes passed, and Alice had not been moved from her position. Not even once. Nobles were still mocking him from the sidelines. He glanced at his status screen, "It seems I only have one chance." He mumbles to himself, as he raises his arm and points a finger at Alice.
