Chapter 1 - Prologue

Cara walked up the stairs. Her hands in her coat pockets to keep them warm from the bitting cold of New York city.

The consultate usually remains deserted this early but today it seemed that all the people of the central plaza were gathered there.

The crowd had started to thicken. Cara desperately tried to push her way through it. She succeeded. She was climbing the last flight of stairs when she slammed into someone.

Oh! Ouch!

Cara writhed in pain.

"Madam, keep your eyes in front ", rudely replied the stranger and walked away in a hurry.

The man seemed quite strange. With all those piercing and tattoos all over his head he looked less human.

Cara cursed under her breath and continued. She stepped on something.

On the floor was lying a metallic ring, intricately designed. From the look of it definitely belonged to the stranger. The ring was rather fascinating. Cara never had the privilege to posses such beautiful jwellery. She picked the ring and kept it in the secret pocket of her jacket lest it gets lost.

Cara kept walking and finally reached the grand door of the consultate. It has been quite a while since she had come to pay a visit to Karl Kenwise, her father. Things had gone pretty bad for Cara. So bad that her own father refused to see her face. She had nearly forgotten that she had a man in her life who is her father.

So many years of ignorance and out of the blue, one day when Cara was in her history class when the peon came and told her that she had a very important call to attend. She had asked for the person's name but the person had refused to give away his identity.

Cara had walked up to the the headmaster's office and was rather shocked to hear her father on the other side of the phone.

She was nearly on the verge of tears when she regained her composure and had said

"hello! who is this?"

her father replied,

" no dear, don't tell me you can't recognise your own father's voice"

"I don't have a father"

Cara had screamed and had left the office in tears. Her whole past came flooding. Instead of going to her history class she had stormed off to her house which was at walking distance from her college.

Her house was not a big one, it was just affordable. She had bought this house by saving money by doing multiple jobs. It was very difficult to make ends meet after her father threw her out of his place. Cara's mom had died giving birth to Cara so there was no one to defend her, no one to reprimand her father's action.

Cara entered her house and their came her dog "hail" running. She picked her dog, sat on the sofa, and cried her heart out. She didn't know when she slipped off to sleep but woke up with loud bangings on her door. She got up with those swollen eyes and opened the door.

There was no one outside. She cursed under her breath and was about to close the door when she noticed a big brown envelope lying on the footsteps. She picked it up and closed the door behind her.

She took out a paper knife from her study desk and opened the packet carefully. She peeped inside and was shocked of its content.

Inside the envelope were two bundles of hundred dollar bills, a CD and a gold key.

She checked the envelope but there was no name on it, no senders address, nothing. She had not much friends who could send her these things.

She took the CD and played it on her laptop.

A video started playing.

First came the picture of New York consultate and then her father's face appeard.

She was about to take out the CD and throw it away with the other contents of the envelope when her father spoke.

Whatever her father spoke Cara was forced to listen.

It was something very urgent, something very important, it was something that brought Cara straight to the gates of the New York consultate, to meet her father.
