Chapter 31 - Fiancees, in-laws, groomsmen and bridesmaids

A cold breeze blew at the bus stop. Ross let Leen crawl into the oversized coat he was wearing.

All the clothes Ross wore belonged to Morty when he was younger, but the coat he was wearing was huge and for someone bigger. He had given it to him because he gained weight and since two people could fit inside, Leen took the opportunity to feel Ross's warmth.

It was almost 8am and they were heading to the Bengal Tiger restaurant to have breakfast with Leen's grandparents. Brad took the opportunity to continue sleeping and declined the invitation.

They arrived earlier and sat down to wait. Everything was going well but Leen got nervous when she saw her grandparents arrive. Her grandfather carried a cane as he was recovering after having surgery on his broken hip, caused by a fall while taking care of his great-grandchildren. After that, Agnes was devastated and prevented him from staying with her children again.

Sonia, on the other hand, I search until I find a good therapist. They had to go to Helsinki and among them 3, they were given the tickets. Her grandmother was also recovering there from a stroke three years ago. Leen's heart broke to see them after so long and Ross tried to reassure her.

Her grandparents looked at her incredulous of what they saw, because her granddaughter was unrecognizable. Look neat, well dressed, so much so that they even noticed that she was wearing makeup.

-That's Leeny ?! Good God, Seymour that boy was not lying when he said that she changed for the better-

-I feel like I can die in peace after seeing her get ready in this way and for someone who cares ... sniff-

Her grandparents were about to cry and she thought something bad happened to them, until they said something unexpected.

-My dear, I hope I can see my great-grandchildren soon..muak- Myriam hugged and kissed her granddaughter that she hadn't seen in almost two years.

-I did everything in my power, but the dates were reserved, so I could only get them for Saturday, August 5, it's better this way. I called an acquaintance and he will give us a place in the Botanical Garden. I also took the trouble to call your Uncle Emmett to officiate the ceremony.

-Hi Seymour..thanks but didn't you take so much trouble? Then we will arrange the dates with Pryor- Ross greeted his in-laws very animatedly and helped them to sit down.

-...-

Leen was still in denial. It was illogical that her grandparents were so kind to someone they met for the first time. While Ross did video chat with them, there was no way they seemed to know each other so well.

The talk and breakfast continued and each time, Leen found more and more holes in the story of both parties.

[Since when do you talk to my grandparents?]

[Ahh..after making friends with Sonia, I asked her to take you out for a walk several times and thus take the opportunity to interview us. I didn't think they were that accessible.]

[You don't know what awaits you tonight. Damn rebel wand]

[I am willing to receive my punishment, just to make you happy]

The stupid smile spread across his face, making Leen distrust him more. For Ross, the so-called punishments were the best reward he could receive and when he noticed discomfort in her wife he purposely sought to anger her more.

Ross was waiting for the perfect moment to tell the truth to his in-laws. He started with the day he met Leen and how they continued with their life after that.

-She literally fell from the sky on me.- His laughter began to make them uncomfortable.

Myriam almost had a fit to find out how stupid she can be her granddaughter while drunk.

Seymour had to accept it since if she had not met Ross, she would still be a grotesque person. They both concluded that they would shut their mouths on the matter and thanked their son-in-law for his honesty in bringing them up to speed.

Now they didn't want Leen to let him go under any circumstances.

The talk continued in a pleasant way and they agreed to go to dinner at the apartment. Seymour was escorted by Ross to the taxi, while Leen talked to her grandmother.

-I want you to take care of yourself. I know you've been depressed and we're not supportive enough, I'm so sorry. But I am more confident that you will find someone who wants to be by your side.-

-Grandma... I ...-

-Don't let any vixen try to steal it from you, especially on the side of the families of origin. That boy is a diamond in the rough just like you.-

-Don't tell me, that bitch Susan has been hanging around nearby. When I grab her, I am able to pull her extensions off-

-Very well. I just hope to hear more good news from now on- Myriam winked and stroked her granddaughter's belly

-Grandma !!! - Leen turns red at the embarrassing comment

They spent the rest of Saturday talking and preparing for the wedding. On Sunday they headed to the largest cosplay store and factory of custom and made-to-order clothing "Pontiac Butterfly." Leen was not going to allow that day to be ruined and despite the decision of Myriam, who already bought a dress, she opted for a steampunk-style wedding dress to match Ross's military uniform.

The owners Rene and Wendy Pontiac, were friends of Rocket and agreed to replicate both the uniform and the dress they wanted in exchange for a photo shoot and a book to advertise their business. They would personally be in charge of the adjustments until the last minute.

Myriam allowed it in exchange for the fact that at the reception and the party, she had to wear a boho chic Michelle Roth dress to dance. Agnes and Sonia scoffed at how quickly they forced Leen to wear something she didn't want.

-And how about a headdress? You would look good- Agnes looks in the trunk on the corner

-A mini top hat would be better- Sonia tried on everything she saw

-I don't want a headdress or a hat. I want you to stay still-

-You stay still. You'll ruin the design- Rene adjusted the dress and looked annoyed at Leen

-You can hurt yourself sweety. I that you, i stay in one position- Ross remained hard as a statue while Wendy fastened the laces and buttons on the jacket

-Says the guy who is used to such torture-

The laughter was very boisterous.

-What are they laughing at? Then my groomsman and aide-de-camp follow. - With that said, Arthur and Brad stopped their taunting.

-Do I really have to wear this?- Agnes looked at the hanging dresses for the bridesmaids.

-You'll look good. You already recovered your figure from before pregnancy- Morty studied the collection and looked at his wife

-You'd better get up early that day. We have to be ready before 9am. Rocket, can you bring your makeup set, Rusty will do my hairstyle-

-Sure- Rocket was chatting with Leen's grandparents to update them on Mama Rabbit who would be attending the ceremony.

-About the guests ... are you sure you want to invite those people? They are not supposed to be the enemy. They are not even related-

-It is the only way to have them at bay and in sight. If we forbid them the way, they will do theirs secretly-

-Well said! Preventing them from ruining the ceremony is the main objective. Who thinks alike?! -

They all raised their voices in chorus affirming that they thought the same. Dresses, suits and tuxedos were tried on to be ready that day. Monday was just around the corner and with the start of the week, a new marvelous and macabre problem loomed.

Aide-de-camp is the military personal assistant or secretary to a high-ranking person, usually a high-ranking military officer or a Major State Boss at ceremonies. The first assistant is generally the one with the highest level and with an honorary title.
