Curiosity is a quality that can quickly become a fault when it goes too far or… when the person doesn't know how to stop on their own. Curiosity can lead to great discoveries, such as leading to cursed treasure. Day and Foud should have listened to Lou when she told them not to go to the back of the library. They should have. The atmosphere was not the same in this smaller room full of many shelves, full of books and various objects. From the jewellery box to the dagger on its plinth, everything was sparkled with beauty. But something was scary. The three curious people felt they were being watched all the time.
"I really don't endorse what we're doing," Lou recalled, looking behind her."I have the impression that we are not alone..."
"Me too. Foud avoids moving objects too much that could be seen."
"Did you know what was here? Look at it all, are these treasures collected by our parents?" asked the god of lightning, pacing the dust-covered shelves.
"I don't know. Do you see anything that could help us?"
"Not who can help us find a lead to bring us to the Order but that..."
"What did you find?"
"Come to see."
Lou and Day looked at each other before joining him in the back of the room. The red-haired brunette grabbed the locket resting on a silver sword with a thin blade and a hilt rich in detail. The ruby encrusted in the hilt suggested that the sword belonged to someone. The silver medallion encrusted with a black stone only reinforced this thought.
"Nyx has the same," Day remembered, taking it in his hands. "It's the same. He always keeps it under his clothes and even sleeps with it."
"It's strange," Lou hastily pointed out.
"Yes. Nyx really cares about his necklace. He said he won't take it off even if I asked him."
"I saw this medallion on a vampire!" Foud suddenly remembered as he took turns looking at them."It was the same, and Duke Monty has the same around his neck."
"It's true, well seen!"
"Haha, thank you, Lou. I think that's a way to recognize each other."
"Why would Nyx keep him under his clothes?" the blonde asked while raising an eyebrow.
"It must have a function but go ask him the question..."
"It is impossible."
"Unfortunately. At least we know this belongs to a vampire. Maybe it opens?"
Despite his uncertainties, Day tried to open it any way he could. But the locket didn't change. The disappointment was visible on Foud's face as he began to analyze the sword more closely.
"What are you looking for?" asked Lou, who had stopped constantly looking behind her.
"A name, a symbol… Anything that could be a clue to finding the identity of the owner. A vampire whose business we keep here."
"The only vampires in the monastery are those of Nyx's family."
The two omegas turned to her, and the answer hit them hard.
"Nyx and his brother are running after a dead man, even two dead men," the blond said gravely, looking at them in turn.
"They would know they are dead, don't they? Don't their own father would have told them that?"
"I don't think so. Something on the sword?"
"A ruby as large as two fingers and dried bloodstains on the blade."
"Some blood?"
"Yes, on the other side of the blade."
"This is all frankly... A problem, Lou?"
The beta didn't respond and continued to pat his shoulder, his gaze riveted on the colourful stained glass window. The youngest could not contain the cold sweats given to him by the strange figure sitting on the edge of the stained-glass window. The three nosy noses didn't say a word and watched the ghastly figure disappear in front of them in a blink of an eye.
"Did you see what I saw, or I hallucinated?" Day asked calmly despite his nervousness.
"A scary figure that looked like someone, and that's going to keep me awake? Yes," replied Foud stomping away from the sword. "She's cursed, I'm sure of it!"
"Hey, easy, we don't mess with curses!" Lou got angry immediately, grabbing Day's arm."We are going there."
"But we…"
"I don't stay a minute longer in this place where there is probably a haunted sword!"
"There really is something unclear… I take a picture, and we can go."
"What about the locket?"
"I'm putting it back, don't worry. Here it is, we can go. Are you coming, Foud?"
"How are we going to tell Nyx and his brother?"
"By the time their heat is over, we will have figured out how."
"I hope because their reaction is going to be explosive. Let's go fast and far away from this cursed sword now!"
The three truth seekers crossed the room in the opposite direction without even looking behind them. Maybe they should have done it, so they would have seen the smirk on the face of the figure that had appeared in front of them. But the two omegas and the beta were too shaken to pay attention to their surroundings, not noticing the other figure leaning against a chest. They had to get out of this cursed, haunted place or maybe both.
"Never again!" Lou exclaimed when she closed the door to the card room.
"Never again, this place scared the hell out of me!" Foud asserted before turning to Day."A problem? You look elsewhere."
"The guards."
"What the guards?"
"There aren't any."
"They had to be away for a moment, pause toilet all that. These people are still living beings even if they stay all the daytime in front of the door. We told them we were going to get some parchment, and the room of parchment is a little far."
"Both guards at the same time?"
"When you have to go to the bathroom, eh you go."
"It's weird."
"What's weird is what we saw in this room! What was that ?!"
"A revenant," Lou said darkly."It was a ghost."
"A… A…"
Day didn't have time to catch up with Foud as he passed out and collapsed to the ground, under Lou's worried gaze. Something was weird. The omega and beta laid him comfortably on the floor and ventilated him as he painfully opened his eyes.
"You passed out," Day informed in a low tone.
"No ghosts… No ghosts!"
"There are no ghosts with us. Breathe gently to calm yourself down. You'll be fine."
"Here, drink some cold tea," Lou added while handing him a mug.
"Tea? We didn't ask for tea, it seems to me."
"Ah? You didn't?"
"No, I would have remembered."
"Considering how gruyere your memory is…" commented Foud.
"I remember what I'm doing anyway! I didn't ask for any tea at all, Foud did you ask for any?"
"Nope. Nothing asked except to go to the parchment room. Which was a lie. By the way, I hope the guards weren't suspicious and didn't go snitching."
"Don't drink it."
"But he looks good!"
"Don't drink it!"
Foud immediately put the cup down when Day raised his voice, watching him survey the room before getting up.
"I don't like the expression you put on," Lou worried as the younger stepped towards the windows.
"We're not alone. The guards wouldn't have been away at the same time."
"What do you mean?"
"An intruder is in the monastery. I am sure the tea is poisoned."
"If that's true, so..."
"Let's be careful night is coming."
"Day…"
"I can tell something is wrong."
"You're scaring me."
"Let's block the door."
"What about the others?"
"If the intruder wants to get into a horny alpha's room, let him do it!" exclaimed Foud, straightening up."If there is indeed a pest, he has come for the Duke."
"A member of the Order?"
"Who knows? The Order might try to come and get him and eliminate him. They don't need him anymore now that he's here."
"But he's still in heat."
"Which makes him even more vulnerable."
"What can we do?"
Day and Foud were about to make suggestions when the door opened. A man dressed as a guard looked at them before smiling.
"You have come back! You must not stay here. An intruder has sneaked into the monastery!" he announced hastily.
"Where did you go?"
"I was gone with my colleague to see what was going on. Didn't you touch the tea?"
"No, we didn't ask for tea."
"Ah yes, maybe well."
Day tipped on the word"maybe" and spun around to observe the unfamiliar guard. Something was not like the other guards. The suspicions of the young omega were shared by his two friends, who took a step back.
"You must come with me," the man ordered after noticing the questioning looks between the three gods."You must come now."
"Everything is calm. The alert would have been given."
"Some need a rest, like the Duke."
"He's not here."
"I know he's not here with you."
"Where is he then?"
"Is this an interrogation?"
"Lightning, strike him down."
The Lightning God didn't have to be told twice. He made electricity appear at the tips of his fingers before directing his lightning towards the false guard. The latter barely parried, shielding himself behind the wall and unsheathed the sword hanging from his waist.
"Day, raise the alert!" Lou ordered, pushing ivy out of the ground that wrapped around the intruder's ankles.
The blonde half threw himself on the black box on the wall and opened it hastily before hitting the black button. An alarm immediately sounded throughout the monastery, causing the intruder to panic, who roughly sliced the ivy around his legs before fleeing. The three gods started chasing him, screaming for him to surrender now, but the pest Foud called him kept running. Things took a wrong turn when around the corner of a corridor, others intruders appeared. Day had no time to defend himself when a violent blow to the head made him wobble, his sight blurring for a moment before his knees touched the ground. The young omega could barely see the blood on his hand when he pulled it from the back of his scalp.
"Standing!" Foud shouted at him, pulling him by his arm.
Completely stunned and the vision troubled, the young man could barely get on his legs which collapsed under his weight when Foud fell to the ground. He heard a cry from Lou, but he didn't have time to turn to her as his head was held down to the ground by a boot.
"You think you can do whatever you want eh," a hoarse and heavy voice hissed.
"Who..."
"The Order has a message for you, you little shit. Stop snooping around in other people's businesses, or you'll regret it."
The blond didn't have time to find his words when gunshots started fired very close to him.
"Stop there! Get away from His Majesty before we end your life!" summoned a guard whose familiar voice made the young god sigh with relief.
A sardonic cruel also terrifying laugh was heard before more shots were fired.
"You are pathetic like this is going to kill me!"
The gunshots continued, and a stranger's blood dripped onto Day, who dared not move for fear of inadvertently taking a bullet. The boot suddenly stopped pressing on his head. Seconds later Day, saw a body fall backwards in front of him. He saw his attacker's wide-open red eyes perfectly well, who continued to smile as his life was over. That smile was that of someone barefaced and strutting about an imaginary victory. The young god let himself be lifted off the ground and moaned as his head jerked forward as his body was released to the soil. The weight of the guard's armour oppressed his chest, crushing his lungs which quickly ran out of air.
"How stupid these guards are, seriously. A diversion and he lets their guard down," a dark-hair woman leaning over the blonde mocked viciously. "Do you see me, blond?"
"Who?"
"Uh, you seem to be struggling to find your breath. As the other fanatic told you, we have a message from the Order who are furious with what you have done. Stop the doctor after such progress with the other goddamn mind and heartache… When the Order found out that Duke Orthon Monty was here, its most elder members swore they would drain the blood from your body themselves. Little omega. Stay in your place, lay kids and don't piss me off, youngster."
"You are crazy!"
"And you arrogant!"
"The Order... The Order is..."
"The Order is what? Speak sweetie, we don't understand what you're saying."
"The Order is an organization of degenerates, bitch!" Day heard the Duke bark before a myriad of shots were fired.
The screaming ceased before the gunfire continued moments before Day heard the gun being thrown to the ground. The guard's body over him has pushed aside, and his lungs took in a deep breath of air on their own, then a second. If oxygen was nice to arrive in his lungs, it didn't stop his asthma from increasing. The pheromones released despite Duke only made the air heavier and heavier while the alpha breathed loudly above him.
"Back up… back up…" he gasped before sinking his fangs into his hand.
The young omega crawled as best he could on the floor and went to curl up in a corner before his vision clouded again. He could feel his blood rushing down his neck before his body began to shake. The temperature must have dropped for his body to get so cold and wheezing before it ceased.
