.....
Adrian left the mansion with his troops' protection. He is feeling very disappointed that Remius didn't help him.
When they were passing through the city gate, a shadowy figure started to follow them. But his stealth skill is so good that none of them noticed him when he followed them.
Adrian and his troop traveled the grassy road at a steady tempo. Adrian had ordered them to stop only when the horses were tired. Eventually, they were tired so they stopped and gave rest to their bodies. They decided to camp for the night here.
Adrian even had a tent erected for himself. The others could only warm their bodies by lighting a fire. The silent night and campfire crackling and popping noises seem to fight each other.
Inside his tent, Adrian tried to sleep but he couldn't catch even a glimpse of it. With each passing moment, he felt more anxious about his family's future.
"Sigh! Why is my luck so bad? Can I not get a little peace at this age?" Adrian thought out loud.
"I have a way to lessen your stress."
Suddenly a voice sounded inside the tent. Adrian became surprised by the sudden interruption of his thought. He immediately raised his vigilance and focus on the holder of the voice.
A man clad in dark outfits with his face hidden by the hood. The man possesses a very faint aura as if he isn't standing there.
"Adrian, I hope you will listen to me. I have no malicious intent but I have already knocked out your guards for my safety." Said the intruder.
'He is definitely using a voice modification tool to mask his voice.' Adrian thought to himself.
"Who are you? and what do you want with me?"
"I am but a lowly messenger and I bring with myself a message from my superiors."
"Who is your superior?"
"My superior says that if you help him, he will help you with the recent problems that you are having trouble with."
"Who is your superior?" Adrian questioned again.
Alas, the intruder didn't speak.
"Adrian, I am forbidden to speak about my superior's name but if you decide to work for us, you will sooner or later learn more and your questions will be answered by then."
Adrian felt very suspicious of his group's intentions.
"Why should I believe that you can solve my problem? Do you even know my problem?"
"Isn't it only a matter of offending a prince? We can solve that. "
Adrian was visibly surprised and the intruder was feeling proud seeing his reaction but nobody could see that. Adrian also hardened his expression and came to decision finally.
"Fine, i will lend you my help. But only if you can help me get rid of my problem first."
"I will inform my backer of your decision. You can wait for good news." the man laughed slightly, clearly feeling happy about his successful persuasion.
Then the man left the tent as quietly as he came. But as soon as he left, Adrian clenched his fist. He is a proud man but never in his life has he felt as helpless as right now.
...
The next morning,
Arthur is fully prepared for his journey to the mines. In order to complete his task, he was given some soldiers to accompany him. They were waiting for him, riding their horses. A horse was also prearranged for Arthur which stood out from the rest.
"Young master Arthur has suddenly got powerful, don't you think?" one of the soldiers said to another.
"Yes, before he was so quite and mild mannered. Now he has a bit of warrior side to him. This change is sudden."
"You think so! I was also wondering how can a person change overnight like this. Do you think something is wrong with him?"
"No, if he has something wrong about him, then the lord would've noticed already."
Just as they were getting deep into their conversation Arthur appeared before them.
Everyone stopped what they were doing and got into formation.
Arthur saw that the soldiers are all donned with official armor engraving their family symbol, The Flying Hamster. He always wonders why someone will choose this cute animal as a family symbol. The official explanation is that it symbolizes their bloodline ability.
"Everyone I am pleased to meet you. I hope our journey is going to be smooth and safe. So not wasting any more time, Let's move out." Arthur kept his speech small because he didn't want to unnecessarily bore everyone. Also as he didn't know anyone prior to today, he didn't want to give any first bad impression.
As they started their journey, Arthur began to think about what his father said to him today before leaving.
...
"Arthur, you are my youngest son so I never burdened you with anything. This is the first time I am sending you to carry out a job in my name. You must do it properly without failing. After you return I am going to send you to an academy so that you can start your study." Remius gave a stern reminder to Arthur.
"Yes, father." Arthur nodded his head quickly in reply. But inwardly he felt very confused.
"Did you really understand? If you mess up then you will see what happens when I get angry. I will make your life so miserable that you will regret why you were ever born. The mines are our lifeline. If you can't even protect our mines, I will be sure to collect all I have spent on you all these years." Remius threatened his son.
"Father, don't worry. I will try my best. Now I'll be off with your permission. Everyone is waiting." Arthur replied quickly and left his father in haste.
Remius watched his son's retreating figure and a bad premonition bubble in his heart.
"I hope that brat doesn't get too lucky" Remius smirked evilly.
