Darkness blanketed the cool sky, lit with the mirrors of scattered stars - a full,
silver-carved moon crouched low in the black. Waiting to pounce. It's reflection
shimmering on the surface of the quiet lake.
Inhaling deeply, I ran my fingers along the ridged, wooden decking – worn until
smooth.
I dipped my toes under the water, feeling the chill spread through my limbs, as
ripples folded the surface of the water.
If only it could last forever.
My phone buzzed in my pocket. Smiling, I turned it on, a message from Holly
highlighted in the centre of the screen.
'Your name reads everything you bring to the world.
Blushing scarlet, I felt my heart flutter as I texted back.
'You are the only rainbow in a colourless world.'
A moment later, the screen lit up again.
'And you are the golden treasure found at the end.'
