Chereads / Ashes: The Awakening / Chapter 4 - Chapter Four

Chapter 4 - Chapter Four

I stood in front of the mirror, disgusted at the reflection. I had pants on that were called jeans, so tight that they were basically my skin! My shoes were called converse, practical but they would be hopeless during a battle. My amour wasn't even for protection, it was a thin white cotton that shone in the sun. There was a new design for a bra though, something I secretly appreciated. It made my assets look incredible. But don't even get me started on the G string. You could easily see the scars that covered my body from wars, but I wore my battle scars with pride. I had the ability to shift the colour of my eyes, whilst the boys had the ability to shift their height to adjust and blend in with the humans. For a moment, my temporary brown eyes made me feel normal. My long hair was braided either side that then was combined into a high pony tail, even then the length of my hair reached my lower back. I felt so small and bare without my furs or weapons. I stored a small dagger in the waist band of my pants though, you can never know what would happen.

"My grace, everyone is now at the flight deck. Are you ready to leave?" The hand maiden asked from behind the door.

"Yes, I'm on my way." I said as I made my way to the door. I opened the door and the hand maiden smiled.

"You look lovely my grace, you will fit right in with the humans." She said as she walked me to the stairs and to the flight deck. After entering the room where we met Sigi earlier, there was a path way lined of workers who were waiting for me. I walked through the path and to the flight deck where everyone was waiting next to a large steel... Plane? Yes, a plane. My brain confirmed. Surrounding the plane were my warriors all dressed in what I can assume is human clothing. I spotted my companions, all looking extremely uncomfortable, I made my way to them.

"I'm glad to see I'm not the only one insanely uncomfortable with the clothing." I said as I approached them.

"These pants are so tight you can see all of my goodies!" Keon yelled as he bend over to show off his crotch, we all cringed and looked anywhere but at the mass he had on display.

"Where is Rokii?" I asked searching for my missing brother.

"He decided to stay, we need at least one of us here. Just to be sure nothing goes wrong." Koba said as he tugged at his tight pants. My intuition told me that Rokii being here alone was a bad idea but Koba was right, we needed someone here. The rest of our team came by one by one to greet us and explain to us their roles, everything seemed like a fantastic plan until I was approached by Vili and a blonde haired woman. She was short and thin, her green eyes and braided hair popped against her tan skin.

"Its an honour to meet you all, I've dreamt of this moment for such a long time. To fight along side Gods, and now I'm finally here." She said happily.

"My name is Fiona, my father is the blacksmith in the village. I'll be apart of the stealth team." She said looking at us all with hope.

"I'm sure you will do well, Fiona." Ivarr said quietly and giving a slight bow, she blushed instantly. Vili placed his hand on her hip as if defending his gesture, or trying to get a reaction out of me. His eyes haven't left me since they arrived. His massive frame was practically screaming to be ripped from the clothes.

"I'm so sorry I didn't get the chance to introduce myself last night Freydis, you left quiet suddenly. I didn't know anyone knew of our cave." Fiona said looking at me with a bright smile. The fact that she thought it was their cave burnt, but she was naive and had no idea my feelings for this man.

"It's quiet alright, Fiona. My mind was frail from my slumber. It was a moment of weakness and pain, I can assure you it won't happen again. My love for one man will not destroy my mind." I said abruptly, without meaning to. Fiona looked puzzled for a moment.

"Forgive me, my Grace, but do you love Vi..."

"Prepare to board!" I shouted over the chatter, I quickly made my way to the front of the small air craft. Nobody will question my feelings in front of a crowd, she made a mistake by doing that. Myself and my companions sat at the front of the craft while the small selection of warriors sat behind us all.

"Now, this is the first real flight this craft has done. We've had plenty of test runs but never a real mission. Please, try not to destroy it Freydis. It took time to construct." Sigi said with a smile.

"Now, please strap in like so."

We followed Sigi's instructions, the belts that were used to hold us in place didn't seem useful if the craft was to crash, but the assured us it wouldn't.

"Is it true what Fiona was going to ask? You have feelings for Vili?" Asked Keon as he leaned his head against my shoulder. He was a brute of a man, but soft as a bear around his companions.

"Another time, Keon. Now is not the time for such a discussion. Prying ears are near by." I said fully aware of Vili seated behind us watching and listening to our conversation. The air craft begun to power up, loud gushing sounds made the craft begin to shake. I instinctively grabbed onto Keon's arm, the craft very slowly begun to lift straight up off the flight deck. The doom opened up as the craft slipped through the gap. After it reached a reasonable height, it begun to pull forward and into the sky. I was thrown into my seat from the power and nearly ripped Keon's arm off at the motion.

"Freya, can you hold the chair instead?" Keon asked trying to pull his arm away. I let go, but my attention was focused a head of us. There were only two points of access into and out of the realm. You had to be going at the right speed and angle to break through the barrier undamaged. There was on higher in the barrier for us, and one lower for our long ships. If they did not do this precisely, the ship would crash. I leaned forward and watched as instruments moved on the dash in front of the pilot, we might actually make this. Just as they reached the barrier, they push the air craft to go faster, breaking through the barrier un harmed. I sighed a breath of relief, I swear I heard everyone on board do the same. Once the pilots hit a few buttons, were we able to stand up and roam around the aircraft for a short while.

I made my way to the closest window to see the world below me, I wanted to fly these old skies in the new world. But from what I could tell, we were flying above a country, green grass and patched fields laced the ground below.

"Its beautiful, isn't it." Vili said sharing the same view. To my surprise we were the only ones looking below.

"It is, but no where near as good as the view on the back of a Dragon or through the eyes of one." I said. I always knew Vili wanted to fly with us. But a Dragon will not allow just anyone to fly with them, they need to be chosen. A dragon will choose their mate, not vise versa. The companions swore never to love any other human more than the other though, making this difficult for us all.

"Well for some of us, chicken legs, we cannot." Vili joked. He always said Anacalongon and I had chicken legs, I found this funny but it angered my inner beast.

"Don't forget its not me you have to mess with cat breath." I joked back. Vili pretended to be hurt at the remark. He was nick named cat breath early on in our lives when he ate raw fish, he smelt like a cat for weeks. Our eyes lingered momentarily before we looked outside once again.

"Are you nervous?" He asked softly.

"To an extent." I said after a moment of silence.

"Having fear for the unknown is what drives us, not knowing what the new world is like. Letting that fear consume you is what destroys you though. I fear the humans have created tunnels so deep that they are past the point of redemption." I said quietly.

"Hmm. It will be unsettling to witness, but as long as we have each other we will revive them all." Vili said. I smiled thinking that he meant he and I together, but I knew he must us all. I looked over to Ivarr who was smitten by Fiona, she was speaking of her stealth attacks and missions. Ivarr too was a man of sneaking and stealth.

"How long have you been an item?" I asked trying to familiarise myself with the idea of them being together.

"Not long, my mother introduced us when I was... Anyway. Maybe a few weeks, but we are not an item, friends." He said. My mind pricked when he hesitated telling me the full story. He hasn't done that before.

"Well, I hope it goes well for you both." I said not looking at him. I felt his gaze turn to me, watching for my reaction. He got up and left without saying a word though. Shortly after, an announcement was made for us to all return to our seats. It was time for us to land in the new world. Our destination was New York. We would be stopping at a secluded house where some of our warriors have been staying and setting up for us all, 45 minutes from the city. We all braced ourselves as the aircraft landed softly on the ground. As the pilots shut down the craft, the back door dropped so we could leave. Myself and my companions were always first to exit and enter such things, it has always been this way. We were greeted by long forgotten faces. Bjorn and Kili, Vili's younger brothers. From what I could gather, they were now part of the invention and development divisions. They had never dreamed of being warriors, they wanted to help them.

"Bjorn and Kili, it's been too long my friends." I said with a wide smile as I exited the craft and embraced in a hug with each brother. My companions soon followed with the same greeting.

"My Queen, you still look as ravishing as you did before you're slumber, though I miss those ruby red eyes." Kili said with a soft kiss on the back of my hand.

"You flatter me Kili, thank you. You're looking well too." I said, partly confused. Kili had never been so much of a flirt.

"Come my Rulers, let us show you what we have found and created here." Bjorn said as he lead us towards the small wooden house. I looked back to confirm everyone was following when I saw Kili and Vili exchanging words, by the looks on their faces the words spoken were not greetings.

As we walked into the small house we noticed it was laid out as a laboratory, as Sigi calls them. There were tables full of computers, papers and odd clear cups full of strange liquids. The floor was a mess, covered in running leads and some papers.

"Don't get out much, eh?" Keon said stepping over the leads.

"Unfortunately no, our job is to help those who do. So our working space tends to get messy. If you think this is bad, wait until you see the city." Bjorn said.

"A city?" I asked curiously.

"Yes, a city. A large community of humans, one of the largest in the world. Did Sigi not give you the C10 15 liquid?" Bjorn asked puzzled. We stared at him dumb founded.

"No brother, they only awoke yesterday. Their minds are still adapting." Vili said entering the room.

"Ah, Vili. Its good to see you're back on your feet and in the team. How are you feeling?" Bjorn asked. Vili gave him a look, a look as if saying not to pry.

"Well, anyway lets get straight to it. You 5 will be staying at this house, we picked somewhere high so if you need to jump, you can but please restrain yourselves from doing so. Everyone will be located a floor under, individual rooms for everyone. There is a starbucks 3 streets over where we will meet each afternoon, the Dark Knights only move at night so we will have to as well. We have 5 teams. Communications, stealth, battle, search and rescue and the Rulers." Bjorn said as he handed us all papers.

"You guys have heightened senses, we really need that right now. I know you guys are still adjusting but your senses should come to you soon. These tunnels... We can't hope to navigate them without you guys, we don't even know if we can kill them." Kili said as he walked up behind us. We all nodded, it is true we needed a day or two for our heightened abilities to come through.

"If theres any questions please ask. You each have a pack containing supplies you'll need for this. Identification for the hotel, money, phones, laptops, maps, everything. Kili will be driving you all to the hotel." Bjorn said.

In my years, I had never been prouder of a team so well prepared for us. They have adapted better to our needs now more than ever. The battle plans are usually always drawn up by the Companions, but the past few months that has been past on to our warriors. We all begun grabbing our correct packs and heading to another steel vehicle. A... Bus?

"Its a bus." Said Fiona with a smile as she walked with us.

"Thank you, my mind is still faded and adjusting." I said with a small smile. One by one we loaded up onto the bus before Kili closed the door and headed off. The bus was like a horse drawn cart, without the horse. It amazed me what powered these things.

"Are you all excited to see the new city?" Asked Ivarr as he looked back at Keon and myself from the front seat.

"I am, I wonder what they have created in the time we've been gone." I said with a smile.

"Hmm, better weapons I hope." Said Keon with a devilish smile.

"Oh, and more food!" He added. Ivarr and Koba laughed as I smiled. I was curious about the new world and of course, new food.
