Chantel ran back to her dormitory in tears. She was crying bitter tears and by the time she got to get room, she was panting heavily and crying very hard. Cynthia and Adiepena were already in the room when she rushed in as if she was been chased by a monster. Chantel threw herself onto her bed and continued crying. The two girls ran to her side to find out what was wrong.
"Chantel, what happened? We were in your class earlier to look for you but we were told you had already left. Then you come in here like this? What happened, Chantel?" Adiepena asked, as she and Cynthia sat beside her on the bed.
"I thought I was strong enough to handle this. I thought I could finish school without any problems. But I was wrong. I was so wrong," Chantel cried, her face turned away from her friends.
"What are you talking about?" Cynthia and Adiepena looked at each other.
"I can't do this anymore. I need to speak to my father," Chantel got up from the bed and faced the girls.
"Cynthia, do you have airtime on your phone card? I ran out yesterday and I forgot to recharge it."
"Yes I do. It's in my bag. Let me get it for you," Cynthia got up and went to pick the card. She walked over to chantel and handed the card over to her.
"What happened, Chantel? You still haven't told us anything," Adiepena pressed.
"I just need to speak with my father. I promise to tell you everything once I am done talking with him, okay?"
"Should we come with you, then? We can keep you company," Cynthia offered.
"No, thank you. I want to do this on my own. I will be right back," Chantel got out of bed and wiped the tears off her face then walked out with a serious look on her face.
"What could have happened?" Adiepena asked Cynthia who just shrugged her shoulders.
Chantel pulled out the card and inserted it into the slot then dialled her father's number. The phone rang once, twice, before she heard her father's voice.
"Hello, father," Chantel said as soon as she heard her fathers voice.
"Chantel, are you okay? Did something happen?" her father asked.
"I don't want to be here anymore, father. Please come and get me out of here. I do not want be in this school anymore," Chantel began to cry.
"Darling, calm down and explain everything to me."
"Father, everything hurts. It hurts so much. I can't take this anymore." she cried some more as her father tried to calm her.
After she was calm, she explained everything that happened at the school to her father, who could no longer hide his anger.
"So, you mean all of this happened today?"
She nodded as if her father was standing right in front of her. "Yes, father. It all happened today. Everyone now knows about my pregnancy and they have began mocking me over it. I don't know how all this happened, father. Please, come for me."
"Listen baby girl. I will be there tomorrow to get you. But please try to calm down, alright? I will be there tomorrow, I promise you." Her father said.
"Thank you father. I love you," Chantel said.
"I love you too baby girl. Everything will be fine very soon. Just calm down for me.
The call ended.
Chantel walked back to her room much calmer and collected. She was tired of the rumors and all the mockery. She was ready to leave the school, even if it meant she had to leave her friends behind. She met Cynthia and Adiepena seated on her bed waiting patiently for her. She sat in the space between them as the both placed their hands on her shoulders.
"So, are you going to tell us what happened?" Adiepena asked again.
Chantel nodded and began to explain everything that happened, from what the teacher told her to what she saw with her own eyes concerning Kevin and Nadia.
"So, that boy was here today? And after everything he did, he still went ahead and dated Nadia? Who the hell does that boy think he is? He should be happy I was not there because I would have broken that tiny jaw of his," Cynthia fumed.
"He is not worth the time. I already dealt with him and that annoying girl even though it hurt so much watching them behave like a an old married couple."
The truth is, it hurt Chantel so much when she saw how Nadia and Kevin were when they were talking. Under that false facade she put up with both of them, lie a broken soul. She had not really seen Kevin ever since they met at the principals office. The boy had not even come to apologize to her for the embarrassment. Then, she finds out he is dating Nadia? That was like pouring salt water into an open wound.
She also did not tell her friends that she had decided to leave. She wanted to find the right time to let them know about her decision. Will her friends be angry with her when they find out? Yes, they will. But, they would definitely understand her when her father comes tomorrow.
The following day, Mr Asare arrived in the school very early in the morning. He had left everything he was doing to come his daughter's school. His daughter needed him and he was hear to help her. He headed straight to the headmaster's office and knocked on the door. When he was asked to go in, he walked in with a serious look and sat down when he was asked to.
"Wow, it's such a surprise to see you here, Mr Asare. Please, to what do I owe this pleasant surprise?" the headmaster asked.
"I am here to get my daughter out of this school. She is quitting her schooling today," he said.
"Excuse me? Why would you want to do such a thing when the term has not ended yet. What happened, Mr Asare?" the headmaster said, looking very confused.
Mr Asare looked at the man before him like he had said something abominable. He tried very hard not to roll his eyes at the older man.
