Chapter 27 - Inviting the parents

"Chantel, I know this is hard for you. But, that is the only idea I have right now. Okay, what do you suggest we do?" Kevin asked.

"I don't know but I don't want to abort my child. The headmaster said he wants to see you and my parents on Monday. He wants to talk to all of us before he decides on what steps to take next," Chantel said.

"The headmaster wants to see me? Why?" Kevin asked again, looking a bit annoyed.

"Because you are the father of my child. He needs to know what your plans are concerning this pregnancy. My parents will be so disappointed in me. I can't believe I allowed this to happen."

"What are you trying to say? Are you saying loving me was a mistake or what?" Kevin looked disappointed.

"I don't mean it that way Kevin and you know it. I am just worried about what will happen when my parents come here. I can't imagine the looks on their faces."

"I will think of something when the time comes. But for now, let's just relax. I am sure everything will be fine. Can we at least find somewhere to sit? You should not be standing for so long," Kevin said.

Both of them sat on the benches. Kevin continued to calm Chantel, but the more she thought about her parents coming to the school, the more her nervousness grew. She felt so bad about everything and regretted sleeping with Kevin. She should have waited. Maybe, then things would not be so complicated like now.

"Try to calm down, please. I am sorry I asked you to abort the pregnancy okay? But I don't like this nervous energy emanating from you," Kevin said.

"Why won't I be nervous? My parents put all their trust in me and I let them down. They wanted the best for me and I disappointed them. I just don't know what I will even tell them."

Kevin turned Chantel, who was facing away from him to face him. She looked so sad and was on the verge of crying. Kevin held her close and hugged her.

"Everything will be fine. Just trust me," Kevin said and Chantel nodded.

The days went by and Monday came with all the force it had. Chantel was so nervous because she had called her parents to come during the weekend but did not tell them why they were coming.  They promised to come in the morning so that they could return home early.

Chantel stood at the school park, waiting for her parents. It was 7 in the morning and the son was already up in the sky, shining so hard. She stood there alone and was pacing up and down. Adiepena and Cynthia had an early class so they could not join her this time. So, Chantel promised to let them know whatever happens.

Her parents arrived ten minutes later, in her father's car. Her father was the one driving, which meant that Roger was on a vacation. Her heart started to beat faster when her parents got down and walked towards her.

Her mother hugged her. She looked quite worried. But her father was just smiling at her.

"What's wrong baby girl? Why are we being invited here? Did something happen?" her mother asked worriedly.

"Lets go to the headmasters office first, please."

"Baby girl, you look tired. Are you okay? It seems you have lost weight. What's wrong? Are you sick?" her father observed.

"I am fine father. It's just that I have not been sleeping well."

"Okay then. Show us the headmaster's office," her father said.

Chantel led them to the office. When they got to the door, her father knocked and they asked to go in. They entered the office, and were met by the headmaster and a teacher and the nurse. Kevin and one of his teachers were already there. The teachers were seated on the three in one chair with the nurse as Kevin stood in one corner beside them. Mr. and Mrs Asare sat on the chairs in front of the headmaster as the the headmaster sat behind his desk.

"I am sure some of us know why we are here but for the sake of Chantel's parents, we can go over everything one more time. First of all, I am happy to meet you again, Mr and Mrs Asare. I just hoped this would be under better circumstances.

"Erm, Mr Danso, sorry. But, what is going on? I don't get what you are saying," Mr Asare said.

"Well, the thing is, Chantel here is pregnant," the headmaster said.

"What? No, that can't be possible. My daughter is not that kind of girl," Mrs Asare declared.

"I know this is difficult for you to digest. But, it is the truth. Here, this is the result of the test we ran on her," he showed them the report.

Both parents looked at the report together and starred back at their daughter in shock.

"No, I can't believe this. This can't be true," Mrs Asare said.

"Chantel, baby girl. Please tell me this is a lie. It's not true. It's just a joke, right?" her father asked her, hoping what he was holding was just a lie.

Chantel began to cry. She did not know what to say. Her parents were more disappointed than she expected. She could not utter a word. The only thing that came out of her mouth were the whimpers.

"Who did this? Who is responsible for this? Tell me who did this to you?!" her father shouted.

"Mr Asare, please calm down. We need to settle this in a more civilised way. The deed has already been done, so what we need to do is to just calm down."

"I just want to know who did this to my daughter," Mr Asare growled lowly.

The headmaster sighed. "Chantel, can you please tell us who impregnated you?"

Chantel looked at Kevin, who looked very uncomfortable. He looked like he wanted to get out of there as quickly as he could. The whole situation bothered him a lot.

"Chantel, are you going to just stand there and stare at me or are you going to tell us who impregnated you?" her father shouted at her making her flinch.
