Chapter 29 - Counter attack

Uncle Roger came by the school to come pick Chantel up. She was so sad within her. Yesterday, Kevin, who had promised to stand by her no matter what, gave up on her.  He betrayed her like never before and threw her love back to her face. What she felt that day was so painful. She felt like a thousand knives had been shoved into her chest.

It was a school day but Roger had come early so that he would be able to leave with her early without raising the curiosity of the students. He walked into the dormitory and helped Chantel pack her bag. She was going to be home for a week so she did not see the need to pack so many clothes. And, this is was the first she felt so sad going home.

Adiepena and Cynthia were both already awake by then. They stood by her and helped with the packing as well. Chantel did not want to bother them with her problems, but the girls would not hear of it. Her problems became theirs as well. When Chantel was sad, they'd become sad as well. When she was happy, they were happy with her.

Somehow, Chantel felt she had disappointed them. They both warned her about this but she did not listen to them. Instead, she wanted to follow her heart, and see where that landed her. She knew things with her parents were going to change from that moment on but she was ready to make amends and win back their trust.

She finished packing her clothes, and picked up her bag. Roger wanted to help her with it, so he took it from her before she could have a chance to protest.

"You don't need to carry the bag. I can always do that for you," he said.

Chantel smiled slightly at him and nodded. Roger picked up the the bag and walked out, with Chantel, Cynthia and Adiepena right after him. The girls walked slowly and silently, as they followed the older man down the hall to the car park. When they got there, Roger placed the bag on the back seat and went to sit at the driver's seat.

"I am ready whenever you are, Miss Chantel," Roger said.

Chantel nodded and turned back at her friends. "I will see you girls soon."

Cynthia got emotional and began to cry. Adiepena hugged her and comforted her. "You will come back, right?" Adiepena asked Chantel.

"I will come back, don't worry. My parents are disappointed in me right now but I know that will not make them stop me from coming to school. I will come back, I promise you," Chantel said with a small smile.

Tears glistened in Adiepena's eyes but they did not dare to fall. Adiepena had always been the strongest amongst them. She knew how to mask her feelings, unlike Cynthia who was always quick to let out what she felt. The girls hugged their friend one more time, before she got into the car. She waved at them, when she sat in. Roger started the car, and they drove off.

Adiepena and Cynthia kept waving till the car was out of sight. They turned and headed back to the dormitory but came to a sudden halt when they came face to face with two people they had not expected to see. Cynthia's eyes were already red from the crying but seeing those two made her so mad. Nadia and Akua stood at the entrance of the dormitory, with their arms crossed like they were waiting to pick a fight with them.

"Just ignore them and walk away. They are not worth our time," Adiepena said to Cynthia.

Cynthia was burning with anger. She really wanted to scratch that silly girl's face and leave her nail marks all over her face. If not for Adiepena, like those girls would have been eating sand by now. As they girls walked closer to Nadia, they heard something they wished they hadn't even heard.

"Look the friends of that Ashawo girl. Who did they think they were fooling? See the embarrassment she caused her family. So disappointing," Nadia sneered.

"Don't mind her. After sleeping with only god knows who, she just decided to pin it on Kevin. It's such a good thing Kevin did not take responsibility. I would have been very disappointed if he did," Akua added.

Cynthia had had enough. She rushed over to where the girls were standing and was now toe to toe with Nadia.

"Even if Chantel slept with the son of the president that is none of your business. You know it's such a shame how you were begging the said boy to love you and he totally ignored you. You don't even know how to design properly and yet you call yourself the queen. Don't think I don't know about you, I do. You are one of the dumbest students in your class and yet instead of studying, you rather make time to gossip about other people. Pathetic!" Cynthia said.

Nadia was hurt by her words. She tried to defend herself but no words came out. She wanted to hit Cynthia for what she had just said but Akua jumped in.

"How dare you little twat, talk to us like that? Have you forgotten we are your seniors? Behave yourself, okay?" Akua warned Cynthia.

Cynthia suddenly started laughing hysterically. Adiepena did not know what to do so she just stood by and watched

Cynthia continue to behave like a maniac.

"You are even make me sad more than anyone. Do you think I don't know that you sleep around? You even sleep with your teachers so that they can give you a better grade. And you have the guts to call someone a prostitute? How dare you too? You girls better stay away from us and don't even try to bother Chantel, otherwise I will expose all of you. Silly girls," she said and walked away angrily leaving the two girls speechless.

She walked past Adiepena who was equally speechless. She quickly recovered from her shock and ran after Cynthia who was already climbing upstairs.

"Cynthia, wait for me!" she called after her and ran inside leaving the older girls, motionless.

After a while, Nadia recovered from her shock. "What just happened? Did you hear what she said?"

"We need to he careful about that girl. She is very dangerous. She can really bring us down if we try to bother her friend," Akua said.

"I don't care who she is. I am not afraid of her. She can do whatever she wants," Nadia said angrily and walked inside with Akua following her.
