Everyone has the illusion during their first love that they can always be with the other person, and Qin Guanglin was no exception.
Living with someone in the future meant facing each other twice a day, adding up to over 700 times a year, more than 7,000 times in a decade... He was lost in thought.
"What are you grinning about?" He Fang interrupted his mental math, "I'm done eating, you handle the rest."
"I'm not grinning." Qin Guanglin denied it, then picked up the last piece of cake and took a big bite.
"Take your time eating, no need to rush."
He Fang lightly pressed her skirt down with her hand, lifted her foot, and nudged the pedal tentatively. Once she was sure there wouldn't be any embarrassing exposures, she pedaled slowly.
Qin Guanglin had just taken a big bite, unable to respond, so he simply ignored it. After all, he was a man. Men were supposed to eat and drink in big gulps. If he ate like her, all dainty like a cat, it'd be too girly.
The fish had dispersed; only a few small ones swam nearby occasionally. They couldn't compete with the big fish for food, so they rarely moved with the school.
He Fang picked up the cake platter and gave it a gentle shake outside the boat, letting the cake crumbs scatter into the lake. The small fish, startled for a moment by the movement, cautiously approached to start eating.
She was entranced by the little fish for a moment, then reached over and broke off a piece from Qin Guanglin's cake, crumbling it up and sprinkling it over the water.
"Isn't there still fish food?" Qin Guanglin reminded her. He didn't mind the waste, but the fish food could be used or taken back; leaving it would be useless.
"Fish food isn't as tasty as cake." He Fang said, breaking another piece of his cake.
Qin Guanglin thought about it. It made sense to him; he couldn't argue with that.
"You rest, I'll pedal." He finished the cake and started fulfilling his boyfriend duties.
"Head back." He Fang glanced at him, "Your mouth."
"What about my mouth?" Qin Guanglin was turning the rudder.
"Cream."
"Is there still some?" He licked the corner of his mouth and asked.
"Here." He Fang reached out and wiped his lips with her forefinger, then waved it in front of his eyes.
"That's a big piece." Qin Guanglin exclaimed.
"There's a bit left. You clean it up." She put her forefinger in her mouth, sucking it with a slight smack.
"You..." Qin Guanglin's surprise turned into panic.
"Do you want some too?" He Fang took her finger out of her mouth and held it in front of him, "It's gone."
He looked at He Fang's saliva-coated finger, then at her face, and stammered, "No, no need."
Was this woman really a demon in disguise? Qin Guanglin thought of his dream from last night and began to doubt again. No wonder those ancient scholars couldn't resist demons. Even inadvertent actions made people's hearts race.
"Do you want to do anything else?" He Fang picked up the amusement park guide he had placed aside and asked.
"You decide. If you're tired, we won't do anything else." Qin Guanglin pondered, with Dragon Boat Festival approaching, about how to find a way to invite her out for some realgar wine.
"I had a great time today. Thank you, Classmate Qin, for accompanying me." She put down the guide again, "Shall we have dinner together later?"
"Sure, where do you want to eat?" That had been his plan since the morning.
"At your place."
Qin Guanglin was taken aback, "My place?"
"Yeah, it's your birthday today. Let's have dinner with your mom." He Fang nodded.
"Isn't that a bit..." Qin Guanglin hesitated.
"You don't like me coming to your home?" She frowned slightly and said sadly, "Alright then, I won't disturb you."
"That's not what I meant." Qin Guanglin quickly shook his head, thought for a moment, and then spoke, "We've just started dating. Wouldn't this be... a bit too fast?"
"...I mean, you visiting my home frequently might give a certain impression... Ah, I just feel it's not very fair to you."
He struggled to express himself and didn't know how to explain; he scratched his head and looked at He Fang. "Do you understand what I mean?"
He Fang nodded with a smile, "You mean to say that I'm acting too forward, making it seem like I'm clinging to you, which might make others look down on me, and your mom might think I'm frivolous, right?"
"Pretty much, that's it." Qin Guanglin meant exactly that. "Don't get me wrong; I don't think that way. I'm just concerned for you..."
A young girl frequenting a guy's home would definitely spark gossip. More importantly, if his mom changed her impression of her, it would be troublesome.
"Then why don't you be more proactive?" He Fang wrinkled her nose and looked at him with a cheeky grin. "After all, I've always been the one taking the initiative, clinging on to you."
"When feelings are mutual, there's no such thing as clinging or not clinging." Qin Guanglin disagreed with this notion. "Let's just take things slow; no need to rush."
"But I'm in a hurry."
He Fang's face got serious, "I really, really like you, like beyond crazy. What should I do?"
Looking at her, Qin Guanglin's mind suddenly cleared, "I like you a lot too, which is why we're dating."
"Then it's settled; dinner at your place." He Fang leaned in and pecked him on the lips, "We'll head back now, buy groceries, and the timing's just right. I'll cook tonight."
"Then..." Qin Guanglin touched his lips, feeling a sweet sensation in his heart, "Alright."
"Don't worry, I'll handle it." He Fang said confidently, raising her head, "Trust in Teacher He's abilities."
Qin Guanglin no longer wanted to get her drunk with realgar wine. This girl must be a gift from an angel, how could she be a demon?
"Now that you've met my family, when will you take me to meet yours?" Qin Guanglin thought it was a matter of respect. He Fang had already taken the initiative to visit his house, so he couldn't wait for her to invite him to her family's house. He needed to be proactive.
Moving things forward isn't a bad idea; with all the kissing and hugging going on, he needed to take responsibility for her.
He Fang was a bit surprised, "Why are you suddenly more eager than me?"
"I have to take responsibility for you." Qin Guanglin felt inexplicably guilty and said softly, "We should settle things as soon as possible, since we've already done what should be done."
"What do you mean 'done what should be done'?" He Fang's eyes widened, "When did that happen? And settle what?"
"Uh... wasn't it all settled when we were at the haunted house... I mean the marriage?" Qin Guanglin's voice got smaller and smaller as he lowered his head shyly.
He Fang chuckled, looking at him, "That's not what I meant... No rush on marriage; I haven't even graduated yet."
"Then what's the rush?" he muttered, "Don't laugh, I'm being serious here."
"Let's talk marriage when all that should be done is actually done," He Fang tried to hold back her laughter, but she couldn't, "Classmate Qin, you still have a lot, a lot, a lot of things to do."
"Huh?" Qin Guanglin raised his head in confusion, then looked shocked as if he had realized something, "You mean you want to before getting married..."
"Shut up!" He Fang covered his mouth with her small hand to stop him from speaking further, "Where is your mind wandering?"
"You said..." Qin Guanglin began to say, but seeing He Fang ready to cover his mouth again, he stopped, "Okay, I won't say another word."
"Don't worry." He Fang blinked, "I'll teach you everything that needs to be done, slowly."
