"What did you just call Piers?" Vivienne asked, curious now. Seraphina's eyes widened slightly, trying to think what it was that she had said. "Oh. Endymion? That's his true name.. Piers is a more modern name he uses with humans. Well, the one he has currently.. We have to change it up every so often as we don't age... Humans would catch on eventually if we continued to use the same aliases." Vivienne nodded, thinking this name over. Endymion.. It definitely sounded old and mythical. Something she would've read in a book somewhere and not a name for someone of the current era. "Is Seraphina your..." She asked, implying if that was her true name. Seraphina laughed and nodded, "Yes that's my real name." Vivienne smiled.
"How do you know Oliver?" Seraphina asked, genuinely curious. "Well.. I didn't know he was a vampire, first of all." Vivienne explained. "He's been the butler for our family for as long as I can remember. He was with my uncle his entire life and was close with my mother. Though at this point he's more of a father figure to me. I can't imagine not having him in my life." A sense of revelation washed over Seraphina and her features changed, mouth draping open for a moment before she composed herself. Her brows had drawn together and she looked down, realizing something. The moment was quick but Vivienne had caught it. "Yes, well, Oliver is a wonderful person. I'm sure he takes very good care of you." Seraphina forced a smile and Vivienne could tell the subject should be changed though she didn't know why. She didn't know Seraphina well enough yet to pry.
"Seraphina could you tell me more about this uhm... This goddess angel blood thing? I'm still so confused and I don't really understand any of this." She asked softly, voice still raspy and pained. Seraphina welcomed the change in conversation and straightened herself in the chair, crossing a leg over the other. "I take it that Endymion didn't really explain very much, did he?" Vivienne shook her head and Seraphina rolled her eyes. "He's a man of few words most of the time so it's unsurprising. Though I'm sure you know that already. Are you aware of the tale from long ago?" Vivienne nodded. "A brief version, yes. When I was at the party the other night, Piers- I mean Endymion showed me the painting he has of it in his home."
Seraphina smiled at this and nodded. "Yes... It's a lovely painting, isn't it?" She sighed and began, "It's truly a love story. A beautiful one, but a painful one. The goddess was a beautiful angel. A powerful healer and a very strong warrior. One day she looked upon Earth and saw a beautiful, handsome man. It was an angel that had fallen and turned to a very powerful demon, punished to walk the Earth for eternity. The goddess fell in love with him on first sight and visited Earth to meet him.. but as you can imagine, their love was unaccepted. The goddess was told she was forbidden to ever see him again lest she suffer becoming a demon and falling to Earth herself, but we all know how love works. She went to see him again. This time, the demon bit into her neck and drank her blood in a fit of passion and thus she began to fall. However there was another angel. He had fallen in love with the goddess and was dangerously jealous of her tryst with the demon. He had followed her and was hiding, watching. When he saw the demon drink her blood, he took his jeweled dagger and stabbed her right through her heart. In rage, he also cut off one of the demon's horns. The demon was overcome with grief, mourning the death of the goddess. He was deemed to walk the Earth forever, mourning her and paying for his sins of seducing an angel."
Tears had pooled into Vivienne's eyes, hearing the story in it's full context for the first time. "That's horrible." She said softly and Seraphina nodded. "I told you it was painful. Now here's where you come in. They say that the goddess before she was killed set an enchantment. She vowed to reincarnate until she found him again, here on Earth. An eternal, forbidden love. She won't rest until they can be together finally. And do you know who the demon is?" Vivienne shook her head and Seraphina smiled a cat-like smile. "Endymion."
