Chapter 36 - Challenging

Once the shock wore off and Vivienne felt her soul reenter her body she looked wide eyed at Endymion who had now found himself in a chair, one leg crossed over the over as though nothing had just happened. "Look I appreciate you getting rid of Lionel, but-" "I'm going to have a discussion with Oliver about your staff and about moving you into my home." He took his cell phone out of her suit jacket pocket and began typing away. Vivienne's mouth flew open and she stared at him and then at Seraphina who only let out an almost silent chuckle as she went back to reading her book.

"I.. Look." Vivienne began, her voice more demanding now which made Endymion's eyes shoot up from his phone to her. "Today, no, this whole month has been complete insanity and I don't think me moving in with you is the right decision right now. I mean we barely even know each-" "Do you honestly believe that Oliver can protect you better than I can?" The dark challenge in his voice made her heart skip a few beats as she tried to gather herself, taking in his words. It's not that he was wrong, it was just that she didn't know him very well and she had never lived with anyone other than herself in a long time. Though would she even be able to say no? He was a vampire, not only that, but apparently the most powerful one and the king at that. What exactly was she going to do? Especially knowing now that she could be in a lot of trouble soon if more people found out who she was.

Endymion hadn't wasted any time waiting for a reply and was hastily punching away on his cell phone, undoubtedly making plans for her to return with him. Vivienne let out a frustrated sigh, "I'm not going anywhere without Oliver." Endymion seemed unbothered by this. "That's fine, he can work in my home if you like." Something about making Oliver work in Endymion's home made Vivienne uncomfortable. It had been clear that there was some rift between the two men and she wasn't sure how Oliver was going to take that. He would come with her anywhere she went, she knew that now, but it didn't mean he was going to be happy about it.

Vivienne looked over briefly to Seraphina for some kind of help but there was none to be given. She could already tell that Endymion was more stubborn than even she was. Vivienne pressed a button on her bedside table and within a minute Oliver had returned. "Yes, Miss Westing?" He asked, pushing his glasses up the bridge of his nose before putting his hands behind his back. "Oliver... Endymion here is insisting that I go to stay with him until things are safe here." Endymion's eyes flicked up at her when she said his name. He hadn't realized Seraphina had told her his real name. Something stirred within him when he heard her say it.

Oliver narrowed his eyes slightly, doing his best to keep his composure. "I have to agree with him, Miss Westing. You will be safest there." Vivienne stared at Oliver intently. She was surprised by his words, after everything that had just happened. Oliver couldn't deny the truth, however. If more creatures found out or had been lying in the shadows last night and overheard what had happened, she would need the strongest out there to protect her. Oliver was strong, much stronger than he looked, but he was only one man. Endymion had thousands at his disposal. "You will be coming with me, of course. You will work and stay in his house as well but I want to stress that you only work for me. You will not be serving Endymion or anyone else without my permission." Endymion smirked at this. The audacity of this feeble human girl, making up her own rules about his own home with a creature that was technically his to order around if he so pleased. Oliver nodded and bowed slightly. "I will begin to make preparations, Miss Westing."
