Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: Putting the system to use

=====3 days later=====

[Dungeon space detected]

[Dungeon will now be reset]

As the Kondark family woke up this morning they were all met with this message, along with the rest of the world. After a few seconds passed by a blinding flash was what greeted all of the residents of Earth as the environment around them changed drastically. For the Kondark family, it was their home. What used to be a lively and decorated house was now ruins along with all of the houses around them.

"Mom? Dad? Amy?" Madison called around the ruined house looking for her family but found no one there. Every room was empty and she could not find anyone nearby either. After calling for her family for what felt like a long time she gave up realizing that she couldn't change the fact that they were all missing. She was worried for her missing family but she was mostly worried about Amy as she was the most prone to get into trouble.

Once she had checked around the entire house Madison decided to ask the system since she saw no other option available. "Aiko what happened?"

[All users were transported to random locations around the dungeon space Earth. Since you are a unique case, it seems you are the only one who did not get transported.]

"When you say random, how random do you mean?" said Madison with a look of fear for her family, especially Amy.

[Every user was randomly transported across, what you would call a country, that they were previously in]

"Well at least that narrows it down but I'm at least still worried about Amy." said Madison only slightly less worried about her predicament. But because she couldn't do anything about it she could only move on from here and hope she can reunite with her family later on.

"So where should I start Aiko?"

[There are monsters appearing and spreading throughout the dungeon. They are pretty common so it should be easy to figure out. To start, all users have been given a gift box from the system to help them get started. I'll tell you how to get it but you shouldn't rely on me to do most of these things. In order to make this more understandable for you I will change your status screen to act more like a menu.]

"Okay then, thanks Aiko." said Madison after understanding what Aiko had said. This really does seem like its meant to be reminiscent of a game...

[Now instead of saying status, say menu Madison.]

"Menu."

"Inventory."

What appeared in Madison's vision was a small grid of blocks signifying spaces that things would take up. In the first space was a box that looked like a small business briefcase. When Madison focused on it a name popped up beside the box. 'Starter Crate' I opened it and received several things that appeared in the other slots of the inventory.

There was a short sword, light leather armor, a backpack, and some bread. Though the bread wasn't much, Madison was mainly focused on all of the other items she got. When she focused on a pair of leather shin guards, they disappeared from her inventory and appeared on her legs. She did the same with the rest before pulling out her sword which appeared in front of her suspended in the air slightly off of the ground. She reached out and grabbed it before swinging it around a couple of times to get a feeling for it. 'Seems kind of light for my first time using a blade.'

[Your stats are above average compared to your peers so your weapon will naturally feel easier to use Madison.]

"Ah." said Madison as she realized why her stats were oriented like they were. "So were my stats taken from before the system was integrated?"

[Yes Madison, your stats came from your life experiences before you gained access to me, but they were increased further due to your uniqueness.]

'Interesting.' Madison decided to finally head outside as there was nothing left for her to do at her ruined home. Though she would use this as a sort of base to stay at.

As Madison stepped outside of her home she noticed how eerily quiet it was. She was walking for quite some time before she heard what sounded like a slight growling noise. She immediately stopped in her tracks while looking around frantically for where that sound came from. She eventually found it as she saw an abandoned alleyway with what looked like wild dogs eating some kind of carcass at the back of it. it was a decently long alley way so she walked quietly to the entrance of the alleyway before peeking towards the dogs again.

The dogs that she thought she saw were actually wolves, three of them to be specific. But what stood out the most was that their fur was midnight black and the eyes looked like they were glowing red. They hadn't noticed Madison yet so she didn't feel threatened but for a moment she wanted to walk away but was locked in place.

[Skill discovered: Fear Resistance Level 1]

When Madison heard the small chime of the system, it broke her out of her stupor and made her realize that she doesn't have a choice but to deal with these wolves. If she didn't she wouldn't be able to protect herself much less others around her like her family. Since the wolves were distracted with eating, this was the best time to attack. Brandishing her sword she slowly crouched down and stepped into the alleyway and approached the wolves.

Once she was about halfway to the wolves. One of the three of them faced her as it heard her approach and stepped away from the carcass while the other 2 wolves continued eating. A low growl could be heard from the wolf as it continued to step towards Madison with its hair on end seeing the human with a sword approach it.

After a few more seconds the wolf suddenly stopped in its tracks before lunging at Madison at full speed. Madison barely was able to dodge to the side with the narrow alleyway but managed to only come out with a scratch. Once Madison got ready again and saw the wolf begin to leap at her high in the air. Madison ducked under the wolf while holding her sword above her head which created a large wound on the belly of the wolf which killed the wolf after it passed her.

[Experience gained, Leveled up]

Madison was still wiping the blood off of her face and clothes when she heard this. After wiping most of the blood off she smiled as she knew this was good for her, but her excitement was short-lived when she heard two growls from up ahead of her where the other two wolves were originally eating. She looked up and her expression turned sour as she knew that it was going to be much more difficult to fight two wolves at once than just one.
