Chapter 71 - Tragic Backstory

Funnily enough he actually didn't lie about that, that really was his reasoning. I mean think about it, who'd you rather save between a grumpy old man or a beauteous young lady? Thinking that far, Han Sen nodded his head in agreement, 'Indeed, I'd be more motivated to save the lady than an old man...'

But as if to counter his point, another thought sprung from his mind... The old man probable had a wife and kids. Knowing that, would he really pick the lady over him? Over the family man that had so much to lose? He might have even been the only breadwinner in the family, so if he really chose the lady over him, it wasn't only his life he ended but also his family's.

'Who knows, he might even introduce me to his daughter as thanks for saving him...'

In the spirit of fairness though, he also thought over the consequences of not saving the lady. The first born of four children, Matilda had a happy childhood... That was until her mother got bedridden by a mysterious ailment!

Her father did all he could to try cure her illness. As they were a family with money, he brought over the best doctors money could buy, but even they didn't know how to deal with the mysterious ailment! He spent more and more money on trying different methods but the only contribution they made was to exhaust their savings!

Finally, the mother who's condition had worsened over the passage of time lay on her death bed. Her pale and wrinkled skin hugged her bones tightly, making her look like some sort of semi-mummified monster...

Her husband, who say by her side, whispered in a defeated tone, "My dearest wife, I've done all I could, there isn't a doctor I haven't brought, a pill I haven't bought, and a technique I haven't learned... but they all seem useless, as I am yet able to save you. I have emptied out finances, leaving behind only debt for out kids. I don't know what to do anymore..."

His voice trembling, and eyes red, he reached out and held her frail hand in his; sadly thinking back to a time before this hell.

Although she was weak and on her last leg, his wife tried to her best to comfort him... but it was too late! She opened her mouth to say comforting words only to grasp for air, like a fish out of the water, before finally resting in eternal rest.

Torn by a broken heart, the husband leaves! He went all around the worlds, healing all those he could, trying to make use of the skill and knowledge he had collected but that had been insufficient to save his wife. All the meanwhile while abandoning his kids, and forcing the eldest, Matilda, to take on the role of a parent.

Thankfully, she was educated and old enough to get a decent paying job allowing for her to support her younger siblings. Unfortunately, not only had their father left them behind, he had also left behind that mountainous debt of his.

Coming back for their money, the debt collectors took all the siblings had left which included a one story villa house as well as a large chunk of the girl's savings.

Although, at first they were still able to live normally, after their house was taken away from them they were left in a terribly tough spot. Buying a house with her current salary was out of the question so she opted to rent an apartment, whose quality had been cut down due to the private school fees belonging to her younger siblings.

Although changing into a public school would have eased her burden, she refused to snatch away the last bit of normalcy they had left from their previous lives. She even took on a second job, ensuring they lived a somewhat comfortable life.

Now having been enlightened with that, what do you think will happen if she died in some freak accident? Yes, you are correct! Her whole family would collapse, only to be found a few years later by the wandering miracle doctor. Two of them had tragically died and the other two now worked as hired guns, the only way they could make money in the slums.

Now imagine how they would feel of they were notified that on the day of the accident, a hero was hailed to have saved an old man but hadn't had enough time to go back and save their sister? They would, of course, go find this famed hero and torture them till death seemed like a dreamland.....

Thinking up to there, Han Sen felt a profound admiration for his Master for such an extraordinary foresight!

'I still have much to learn!' He thought, resolute to become a stronger and wiser practitioner of the arts!

Looking at his disciple's face expressing serenity after almost a full minute of silent daydreaming, the main character raised his eyebrows in confused acceptance before telling Han Sen to leave, to which Han Sen replied, "Actually Master, I'd rather stay during the testing..." He looked on with hope making the main character weigh the pros and cons before agreeing with a sly expression.

'I'll use this chance to show off some more...'

"Be sure to commit my teachings to memory!"

Han Sen nodded in a serious expression, an expression that hid excitement!

Turning around in a cool manner(his robe flailing about behind him), the main character bit into his finger before using his blood essence to draw an array diagram on the floor of the room. Han Sen seeing this was suspicious, 'Why is Master using his blood essence? Is there some advantage in using your blood essence to create an array, over using qi??'

Of course, that wasn't really the case, the main character had simply forgotten that he now had his God essence restored. Coincidentally, by the time he realised that, he had already completed forming the array formation.

Shaving his head humorously, he ordered Han Sen to lay the crazed one down on the inside of the array formation. Thankfully, he had had the right sense knocking her out early, if not she would definitely have put up a fight around this stage of her exorcism.

Laying her down gently, Han Sen backed away as he saw his Master getting ready to activate the array. The array formation glowing with holy, silver light mere seconds later.

The crazed woman, who was still unconscious, lay there completely still disregarding her chest that heaved up and down. Han Sen kept looking on with expectation while on the other hand the main character looked on with nervousness.

'I obviously didn't use the wrong array formation, especially now that with the Atlas here I can remember a whole lot better... So why aren't I seeing any reaction? Could I have made a mistake when drawing the array? No, no, I don't mistakes... so what co-' He was suddenly cut off by the sudden convulsing of the woman's body.

'Oh?'
