The boy stared at me, he looked so refined in the early morning moonlight. Every hair on his head was shining, his eyes were dark and his lips were curved up in a smile. He sat on the dark blue blanket, crossed legged, smoothing the cover down.
"Excuse me-" Before I could finish he'd had covered his hand over my mouth. He put a finger to his lips and looked around the room. Then I heard it, Mother was awake or possibly sleepwalking again. As I heard Mother's bedroom door closed the boy slowly took his hand away from my mouth. I let go of a breath I didn't know I was holding. I could hear his soft, gentle breathing. I watched as he scanned the room, taking all of it in, I watched his shoulders rise and fall with every breath he took in. The boy looked perfect, he was perfect for all I knew. I shook my head to shake away the dizziness and broke the silence.
"What are you doing in my room? And how did you know this was my room?" The boy just smiled and a low chuckle escaped his lips. He looks up at me, put a finger underneath my chin, just like he had done hours ago which seemed like years.
"Darling, did I ever tell you you looked Ravishing in the dark?" The words rolled off his tongue when he spoke it was like I was being put under a spell, what was happening to me?
"Y-You didn't answer my questions"
"Agh right, but must I answer it?" He said teasingly, he was charming, dazzling even. He took his finger away from underneath my chin and put a loose strand of hair behind my ear.
"Yes, you must" I insisted.
"Alright, don't you remember, I told you I would see you tonight," He said in a low voice. The boy winked and stroked the side of my face with his thumb. I pulled the covers up even further so they were covering my chin.
"Why yes, I do remember"
"Good" He smirked and brought his face just inches away from mine, our lips were almost touching. I could feel his breath on my skin, it was hot and smelled sweet. The boy drew closer, he put his forehead to mine and looked me dead in the eyes and smiled, a devilish smile.
"What in gods name are you doing?" I shouted, but quickly lowered my voice to whisper. The boy pushed away from me, it wasn't hostile but it was gentle. He looked confused but only for a second before the smile returned to his face.
"I don't know, what were we doing?" The sarcasm was very clear in his velvety smooth voice.
"No, it was more you"
"Oh darling, you were playing along"
"I was not! You were the one who put your face near mine" I crossed my arms, the blanket had started to slip and I was stuck. The boy saw what I did and frowned. He scanned the room again and locked his eyes on the rocking chair in the corner of my room. On the rocking chair sat my nightgown, it was baby blue with white frills on the end. The boy quickly jumped off of my bed and grabbed the nightgown off the chair and turned it the right way round so it wasn't inside out and handed it to me. As I grabbed the gown out of his hands he turned around. I Quickly slip the nightgown on, I turn around and see my reflection in the mirror. I looked flushed, even in the dark and my hair was everywhere. I smoothed my hair down and took a few deep breaths.
"You can turn around" I whispered. He turns around and his eyes light up, why? The boy walks back to the bed and sits on the edge next to me.
"Did I tell you you look good?" He shook his head and blushed.
"Agh so now I have you under my spell" I teased.
"If that's what you call it then yes, I am under your spell"
"You know, we only just met hours ago and-"
"We're acting as if we've known each other for years?" As he spoke he laid down on the bed, feet hanging over the side. He turned his head toward me.
"Yes, that and you're acting as if you love me or something" The boy looked taken back almost like he had been offended. The boy looked down at his hands and then back at me. He looked mad, but not mad at the same time, it was quite confusing. There was a V shape in the space between his eyes, his eyebrows furrowed and his lips were pressed together and formed a thin line across his face.
"Well how could I possibly love you, I barely even know you" He retorted
"Why do you act the way you do then? Why do you flirt with me?"
"I don't flirt-"
"Agh, yes you do, don't deny it" I point a finger at him, just nicking his nose with my nail. The boy flinches back but continued to speak.
"How do I flirt then darling?"
"Well, first off, you call me darling, second, you put your finger under my chin and bring my face closer to yours and third, you talk in a very low and gentle voice"
"How is talking in a gentle voice flirting, darling?"
"There you go again, how would you feel if I called you darling?" At that moment I knew I had said the wrong thing. The boy who I still didn't know the name of was blushing and smiling like an imbecile.
"Well I, I would feel very, very ugh... I'm sorry I don't know how to put how I would feel" He smiled up at me from where he lay.
"I think the word you're looking for is, giddy"
"No, giddy wouldn't explain it"
"How do you know?" I teased. The boy chuckled, he sounded nervous.
"Well, while I was on my afternoon stroll I came upon a lovely maiden lying on the grass fast asleep so I had to go see this lovely girl" The boy tapped my nose from where he was lying and tilted his head back and sighed.
"Alas, I had woken the sleeping beauty just moments after I had sat down"
"Sleeping beauty? I am not beautiful when I sleep, my hair goes everywhere"
"And that's what makes you a sleeping beauty" The boy mused. He grabbed my hair and twirled it in his fingers. The boy propped himself up onto his elbows, a puzzled look was painted across his face. His eyebrows were furrowed, his lips pressed into a straight line and the V shape between his eyes had appeared again. I wish I could know what he was thinking without him know I knew what was going through his mind but that would never happen, I'm not a mind reader, I am only human. As the boy reached for another lock of hair there was a scratch at the door, it must've been the cat because suddenly the door was open but no one was standing between the gap of the door frame and the door. Shakespeare leapt onto the bed gracefully, landing on the blanket without a sound and curled up on the end of my bed - like he always did - without noticing the stranger lying next to him. The boy stroked the cat's head without disturbing the peace. The cat started to purr, it sounded like fingers rapidly tapping the table but much more quietly and gently.
"What's the cat's name?" The boy asked, still stroking Shakespeare's head. The cat started to lick the boy's fingers, most cats do that when they like the person.
"His name is Shakespeare and what is your name may I ask?"
"Oh darling, if only I could tell you" The boy sighed.
"Why can't you tell me?"
"It's a secret" He snickered and winked at me. I could feel the blood rushing to my cheeks and the butterflies in my stomach. Thankfully it was pitch black in my room and he couldn't see what was happening, hopefully.
"Oh come on, I'll tell you mine" I smiled, he smiled back and chuckled. The cat's head lifted and let out a soft meow. I leaned over to pet Shakespeare, his fur was smooth and silky soft under the touch of my fingertips but his tongue was rough and felt like sandpaper.
"So if I tell you my name I get to know yours?" He looked confused as if he didn't understand anything I was saying.
"Yes that is correct, so what is your name?" Shakespeare meowed in protest, the boy had accidentally put his foot on his tail. I stroked and shushed the cat until he had begun to purr again.
"Fine, you win darling, my name is Sebastian, Sebastian Arakiel and your's"
"Anne, Anne Wembley"
"That is a beautiful name," He said. Arakiel, where have I heard that from?
"It was my grandmother's name, she died a few days before I was born" Sebastian looked at me with empathy flowing in his eyes. Suddenly a scream comes from mother's bedroom, it was a blood-curdling scream, a scream that would put your teeth on edge. The cat immediately bolted out the door and down the hallway, I could hear his little feet slamming along the wooden floors, getting further and further away. Sebastian turned his head towards me and placed the strand of hair he had been playing with behind my ear.
"That is my cue to leave, goodbye Anne" And with that, Sebastian glided to the window and crawled back out and he was gone. I didn't know when I was going to see him again, but I knew it would be soon.
