Chapter 100 - Chapter 100: Four Months Later (2)

*toot toot toot tuuuuuuuuuuuu~*

"Wake up soldiers. It's another day for work. Get washed and come into the training grounds in fifteen minutes!" The armored guard ordered with all of his voice, the people who were sleeping on the bunker beds, before leaving to do the same thing to the other room.

"Uhhh... My ears are killing me. Can't the Sergeant take it a bit easy when he has to wake us up? I'll take the popping over the loud trumpet, any day of the week." Soren complained rather tiredly, as he was slowly rising from his bed with a sleepy expression.

"Just be glad today is your last day here. Don't complain, unless you want another earful from the Captain." Tobias spoke next before throwing his pillow at Soren.

"Hey, I never had any problems to complain about for the training camp, well, except from the horrible wake up calls, but you know what I mean." Soren answered back slightly annoyed before throwing the pillow back and getting up to wear his training clothes.

"Let's just move it before we get an earful." Tobias decided to end the conversation quickly, before putting his own training clothes as well.

...

"ONE! TWO! THREE! FOUR! ONE! TWO! THREE! FOUR!" Captain Argentus yelled loudly as every soldier in the vicinity of the training grounds were swing their weapons, be it swords, daggers, axes or even hammers. After some time, the swinging would stop and then everyone would start swimming through an obstacle course which would test their speed, stamina, flexibility and maneuverability and after a quick two-minute break, the guards would engage in exercises that would build body, as they would put weights on their bodies to further challenge and train themselves. At the end of the training, after looping the process from before two to three more times, the guards then would engage on close combat, be it through fists, weapons or magic.

This was Soren's training schedule for the majority of those four months and although he enjoyed himself as he immersed himself in training, he would rather not wake up earlier than the rooster, since he loathed waking up early. After the morning training session, everyone then would go and eat at the mess hall, before preparing to go on patrols around town.

As for the way patrols worked, the patrols followed a set circular path which marked the guard's area and every guard that was on patrol duty, had a second guard as backup, who would join them during patrols. Also, everyone had shifts and for those whose afternoon was completely free, they would have to go through another training session, albeit less intense. And as for the time which wasn't occupied by training or patrols, that would be considered as free time where the guards were free for the most part.

During his free time, Soren would spend time by either talking with his fellow guards, working on quick requests from the Adventurer's Guild, trying to check occasionally on Lavenza, only to be having his face smacked from closing their doors right in front of him and looking for information which would hint at Pallas City's location.

During this time as well, he also got along with the Guards and got to know them quite well. Although they would occasionally complain for the brutal morning training sessions, but for the most part, they would still enjoy doing this kind of work any day of the week. Aside from that, the Guards also tend to enjoy themselves a bit too much during their free time. Although they wouldn't get themselves dead drunk or try to do anything illegal, they would still celebrate as if every great event was happening at once, so he did get himself in the middle of those so-called 'celebratory parties' quite a few times.

"Alright everyone, training is over. Let's get started with the shifts. For the first shift, here are the pairings. Clarson and Garon for Zone 1, Eris and Patri for Zone 2,..." As Argentus kept announcing the names for the patrol shifts, Soren felt slightly sad, since this would probably be his last day, as well as his last shift with the guards, but once the announcement of the shifts was over, he never once heard his name today.

"These are the pairings for today's shifts. Get going everyone now." Once Argentus said that, the guards starting leaving towards their own separate ways, Soren then quickly asked Tobias with a curious expression:

"Tobias, he didn't skip my name or did I space out and missed out on hearing it?"

"No, your name wasn't in any of today's shift pairings. I guess you got lucky, since I have to go through the afternoon and evening shifts." Tobias answered with a hint of annoyance on his voice as he shook his head.

"Hey, it's better than going through midnight shifts though. At least you won't have to stay up until the lights come out. I had to do that for a week straight and that managed to destroy my sleep schedule for a couple of weeks at least." Soren tried to console him as he patted him on the back.

"Soren." Suddenly, Argentus called him from behind.

"Yes, Captain." Soren quickly stood up as he saluted as well.

"Ease up. I have a message to pass to you."

"What is it sir?"

"The commander ordered that you should come to his office, whenever you are available."

"Understood, sir."

"Ease up today Soren. It's your last day of your training here, so take it easy for once." After said that, Argentus then took his leave.

"You can go ahead and talk with the commander Soren. I have an errand that I have to take care quickly, so catch you later." Tobias added as well before leaving towards his own business.

After all that, Soren then relaxed his shoulders as he sighed emotionlessly and then proceeding to pick up his stuff from his own bunk bed. As he was digging the bag of clothes and miscellaneous items, he found an opened envelope with a couple of letters inside it, but he could help but frown once he saw it and opened one of the letters once again.

"Soren,

You will probably have a lot of questions about what happened before and frankly, I'm not even sure about what has happened either, since all of this information comes from a third party which says that you are extremely familiar with them. Although he will probably say the same stuff as me, I'll still provide my insights and as much information as I can confirm by myself.

What I can say for certainty are a couple of things. Firstly, what probably happened to you, after losing your consciousness, was the awakening of the Attendant of Wrath that is residing inside you. And secondly, whoever caused that to you, was probably a person from my world, which came to your world through some way of sorts.

Unfortunately, I can't write much else for now, without adding more unnecessary theories and whatnots, but once I return after your four-month training period, then I'll be able to provide more information. Until then, stay safe.

Rohan"
