Chapter 46 - Chapter 46: Injuries

-Crystalia City, Sea God's Temple, The Arch-Priestess' Office-

Laventhign right now was focused on checking a pile of documents that was on her desk. Those documents were mostly reports on the condition of the church, financial status, staff reports and anything that could be of note.

*knock* *knock* *knock*

Laventhign heard the door knock and said:

"Come in."

*creak*

At that moment, the door to her office was opened and the one who came in, was Tobias with a few documents of his as well. Laventhign saw Tobias entering the room and decided to ask:

"So what is it bringing you here Bishop Tobias?"

Tobias felt nervous looking at Laventhign and the fact that he had to report that affinity test, did not make thing any better for Tobias' condition. But he still had a duty to complete, so after steeling his resolve, he said seriously:

"Arch-Priestess Laventhign, I have come to report something extremely important that happened just a little while ago."

Laventhign was a bit suprised by Tobias' words, since it was extremely rare for him to report something that had high importance. Then, she decided to cast a silent dome spell in her office and asked with a serious expression:

"What happened that could cause you to lose your cool like this, Bishop?"

Laventhign said that last part a bit jokingly, hoping to calm down Tobias, but to no avail, he didn't even notice that and Tobias answered a bit nervously:

"I-I just oversaw the affinity tests of yesterday's guests."

'So Soren and Lavenza did their affinity tests. I can understand Lavenza, but did Soren do his test? Isn't the affinity test always done at the age of 10 to see their affinities? Or did he feel any changes on him?' Laventhign thought to herself for a bit before she said:

"Then show me the results. Don't be so nervous about them."

After that, Tobias put down a couple of sheets of paper on Laventhign's desk and the moment she saw Lavenza's status, she was ecstatic because she saw that Lavenza had inherited her light affinity, hence Lavenza should be able to learn all the light magic that she could teach to her. In the meanwhile, Tobias felt like his muscles loosening a bit, after seeing Laventhign happy.

After putting away her daughter's affinity test results, she checked Soren's affinity status and the results nearly caused her jaw to drop on the floor from the shock she recieved. Seeing the dual maxed affinity was a pretty heavy shock to her system, but once she saw which those two elements were, she nearly fainted from the bigger shock.

"Ho-ho-ho-ho-how? How is that possible? HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE!? DID YOU MAKE SURE THE AFFININTY STONE DIDN'T MALFUNCTION DURING THE AFFINITY TEST!?" Laventhign was screaming from shock to Tobias, while Tobias felt like he could lose his head if he said the wrong thing.

"I made sure to keep an eye on it the entire time, from the start of the test, until the end of the test." Tobias said seriously although he felt like he would pee himself before long.

Laventhign couldn't believe that Soren had slightly better elemental affinities by Quan an at the time, Quan was considered a legend that could appear once in a millenia, yet, here he is Soren completely outshining him. She had mixed emotion for this entire situation. On the one hand, she felt relieved that Soren had great affinities that could hepp him in protecting Lavenza, on the other hand though, she felt slightly irked to see her deceased husband being overshadowed this easily. After a bit, she said seriously:

"Make sure to keep it under wraps and that no one knows about it, no matter what. Got it?"

"Of course, your Holiness."

"Good. What about the other assignment I told you a couple of days ago?"

"We do have progress, but there is a problem as well." Tobias said nervously.

"What is the problem bishop?"

"Well... We can't find anything. We asked everywhere about that, even to the most secluded of villages, but to no avail. It's like that never existed in the first place."

"Hmmm... Interesting information. Continue your search for now and if nothing comes up soon, report it to me immidiately so we can proceed accordingly." Laventhign said seriously.

"Of course, you Holiness." Tobias said seriously.

"Good, you may leave now and continue your duties." At that moment, Laventhign dispelled the Silent Dome spell and then Tobias left the office. After Tobias left the room, Laventhign said to herself:

"So you really are like him. Honestly, just who are you?"

...

After Soren and Lavenza left the Sea God's temple, they didn't have any particular places to go, so they decided to explore the city. Although it was considered daytime for most on this world, for the merman race, it was their nighttime period and the city was shining with all kinds of lights from all the builings of the city. There were all kinds of restaurants and shops that were full of people and some of those, even had other races such as humans, elves, dwarves and even demons and angels. Soren was quite excited to see all of those different races, but he felt like his excitement died down a bit, once he saw the water bubbles on their heads.

'Some of the races are pretty standard. Elves with their trademark long, pointy ears. Dwarves with their thick beards, their short heights and their hammers on the hips. Angels with their bird wings, although they could be considered harpies, but still, I was expecting halos on their heads. Still, I didn't expect demons to be so... colorful. I was expecting horns on their heads or bat wings on their backs, but not multiple limbs or weird accessories. Although that guy with the black mask definitely looks pretty cool, he just needs a ghost wolf and then he has a decent cosplay.' Soren thought to himself while swimming through the streets and seeing all those different races.

As he was swimming through the streets with Lavenza, he suddenly coughed out blood and that suprised some of the people around, including himself and Lavenza.

'Dammit. Guess I pushed myself way too hard. I have to rest and heal up soon, otherwise I may end up collapsing in the middle of the street.' Soren thought to himself while feeling more pain on his body than before.

"Hey, are you okay young man? You look pretty pale." One of the people said while looking at Soren worriedly. He had reddish, hard skin, horns and a muscular build on his body with a height of around two meters. He was also wearing leather armor and had two swords on his back and his face was pretty standard, but he had brown hair as well.

Soren looked at the man and said:

"It's nothing. I can handle myself. Right now, I have to get going." After Soren said that, he left with Lavenza towards Rohan's house. Soren didn't want to owe to any strangers and if he stayed here any longer, he might not be able to make it back before he collapses.

"Reny~?" Lavenza had a pretty worried expression.

"It's alright Lavenza. This is nothing compared to some of the stuff that I had to go through when I was younger." Soren said while trying to put on a confident face to ease Lavenza's mind, but his apperance said otherwise.

After fifteen minutes of swimming through the streets, Soren and Lavenza finally made it back to Rohan's house. Once Soren and Lavenza reached in front of the door, it was suddenly opened by Rohan who was looking pretty worried.

"Hey Rohan, what is- OUCH! OUCH! OUCH!" Just as Soren was about to say anything, he was suddenly grabbed by the ears by Rohan while Rohan had an angry expression.

"What the hell were you thinking Soren!? Going out with those horrible internal injuries, do you have some kind of death wish?" Rohan said furiously while he was dragging Soren by his right ear.

"OWOWOWOW!!! Can you please let go of my ear please?" Soren said while he was in horrible pain.

"Until I heal you up, I'm not letting go of that ear of yours, even if it kills you." Rohan said angrily. After he said that, he dragged Soren to the living room where Matt was waiting with a white box.

"Sit down now so we can check on you." Matt said seriously. After Matt said that, Soren sat down on the couch and then Matt started to check on Soren's condition to see the damage.

"Take off the armor for a bit." Matt said seriously.

"I can't take it off if Rohan is literally trying rip my ear off." Soren said while he was in pain. At that moment, Rohan let go of Soren's ear and then Soren took off his armor. The moment Soren's body came into full view, a big bruise on his chest, as big as a bowling ball came into view. Matt and Rohan were shocked that Soren was even able to move with that nasty bruise.

"Just how?" Rohan could barely believe it. Just how gutsy is this kid to not even care about this wound.

"I have had worse. Besides, you can thank the battle with the ravaged wolf. It was a pretty close call, with it making me fall for my trap, but it still had the brains of a wolf that didn't have experience in dealing with mind battles." Soren said a bit proudly.

"Ravaged Wolf!? Are you serious!? Just- You know what, we will talk about this later. For now, you need to heal up and fast." Matt could only say that in disbelief at that point.
