Chapter 13 - Teaching (3)

The teachings continued in the same vein for a couple of days. Every morning they meditated for an hour before eating, always making sure to erase their traces. Then they walked, Amycus trying to dry the leaf. She wasn't idle, either. While she practiced lightly with the prana of the environment or Emain's energy as it was called here, she did some breathing and vocal exercises at the same time.

She really was serious about singing. It had become an important part of her life and was weird to not be able to sing well, too.

When they rested for lunch, she quickly captured a couple of fishes and they ate that. Afterward, Amycus did some upper-body exercise, he said it was what he used to do in the Army to better use the sword. She wasn't sure she would be able to do anything strenuous for some time, so she didn't follow him with doing his routine, even when he reasoned she could get stronger doing it. Not that it would work for her. Her form of fighting used more leg strength and flexibility. That was why she did yoga, instead.

Some of the poses she had to do left him blushing though, so he usually turned around when she did her exercises.

Such a prude.

After their hour of exercise, they continued took the time to clean themselves, and then they continued walking for a couple of hours before finally searching for a place to sleep. Then she fished something again while Amycus lit the fire. While she cooked the fish he would go and put some traps around while he searched for edible plants for their breakfast.

Then they would repeat.

She learned a couple of things from her yoga sessions, as that was the time she used to organize this body's memories and the ones from the slave trader. She remembered more about the culture of Valand, which did use some version of English as their language. Their neighbors, the country of Cethos, in which their monarchy carried the same royal that Valand, spoke German. While Thoran spoke some kind of French. Zadria, which was their own small continent spoke a mix of Spanish and Italian.

However, thanks to the spell of the old Sage, everyone understood each other.

A thing she still called bullshit, by the way. Though thanks to her better understanding of the magic of this world she could now confirm that there was indeed a spell interwoven into the planet itself. If she noticed at all was because of her Third Eye's influence. This probably means that the spells that 'connects' everyone will not work well with her. Luckily she knows English, Spanish, and Italian.

(Thanks Old Ma!)

The problem will come when she would have to talk to someone in German or French. Though she understood some French, thanks to having a friend born in France.

Taking in consideration how close Cethos is to Valand, and how united both countries were, German will be a problem.

She wasn't sure if she had any book about how to learn German inside her library.

She was about to take a peek into her almost completely cyan-colored diamond tattoos when Amycus let out a shout.

"I-I did it! Master, look!"

Alula stopped walking and turned to look at Amycus, slightly surprised by the wide smile he was wearing. It's been almost a week since they left the cave and if it wasn't for their daily meditation, she was sure he would have exploded from frustration already at not seeing any progress.

She approached him as he couldn't see well the leaf he was holding and, sure enough, half of the leaf was slightly yellowish, almost brown.

"Nice job, Amy!" she said with a smile. For the first time ever, he didn't complain at the use of the nickname. Instead, he bashfully shrugged. Her smile softened at his shy but proud actions. Amycus was really a cute kid, almost a teenager. His blonde hair and blue eyes would perfectly fit the stereotypical image of a Water mage to a T. The bruises that adorned his face weren't swollen anymore so it showed his fine features. His jaw had almost no baby fat, his cleft chin only making him prettier. His eyebrows were fine and elegant but his nose was still the one of a child, small and cute.

She couldn't help but pat his head, laughing softly at how he vibrated in place with how excited he was.

"What's the next step, Master?"

His enthusiasm was contagious, she thought as she knelt and grabbed another leaf. "This is harder, so listen well. You now have to make the leaf rotate on top of your palm."

His eyebrows knitted together. "Wouldn't that be an exercise for a Forest mage?"

She shook her head. "You need to learn that without water, life as we know it would not exist. And life exists wherever there is water. All living things, from the tiniest ones to the biggest, animals or plants, need water to survive: salty or fresh, hot or cold, a lot of water or almost no water at all.

"Now you need to control that water. This little leaf here has water inside it. You need to control it, now."

He gulped as if he just thought of something scary. "Does that mean that one can control people, too?"

She tilted her head from side to side for a while before nodding. Better to tell him the truth as this world was different than her own, less lawful. "Yeah, we can. But without knowledge of the human body, we will end doing great irreparable damage. And it's hard to grasp it as it's not a simple organism like a leaf. So don't do it unless you want to kill your opponent, okay?"

He nodded firmly at seeing the seriousness in her gaze.

"Right, well. Let's continue practicing then, okay?"

The singer of today is Ariana Grande. Anyone recommends me some female singers to listen to? Please.

Btw, what are you listening to now? Or what's the last person you listened to?
