Evren and Joseph were near the entrance to the 86th floor kicking the ground. Like the first level, there is a glyph on the ground near the entrance that'll take him out of the dungeon, if they can find it. Harley came running from the town with a broom in her hand and handed it to her grandfather. "Thanks Harley." Joseph said.
He then began sweeping the ground where he was sure the glyph was and after fifteen minutes of searching, he found it. Evren walked over and looked down at the glyph. He looked back up at Joseph and said, "It should only be for a few days. I'm going to run straight there and probably rest after I get there. I'm going to get the gems etched and pick up a few things and I'll be back. I'll be surprised if I'm gone for more than a week."
Evren was carrying a large sack, which contained some food and bandages. He wore his sword on his waist and carried his mithril bow to keep things light for the journey. He was heading back to Plinth after having trained with Walter for a week. He wasn't confident in his swordsmanship but figured he'd 'buffalo' through everything if things got difficult. He bent down and put his hands on the glyph and said, "Take care everyone!" He then poured magic into the glyph and was teleported to the entrance room with the collapsed table and chair.
It had begun to get cooler. The leaves were changing colors and would be falling soon. Evren wanted to hurry, so he left at dawn, but now that he was outside of the dungeon, dawn was still an hour away. He adjusted the sack he was carrying over his back and started running through the Aernide Fortress at a fast, but sustainable pace.
As he reached the entrance to the Fortress, Evren noticed the skeletons had just started to collapse so he didn't need to slow down. As Evren ran along the overgrown trail, the sun started to rise as the downhill slope he was on began to flatten out. There were soggy spots along the road as he went, but they only caused him to slow down a little to keep from slipping.
Evren passed an ogre that was sitting down near a tree, digging something out of its navel. The ogre got up and tried to chase after Evren but got tired and stopped after only fifty meters. As the sun started to set, he came upon the ent. The ent saw Evren and uprooted itself but didn't move. After Evren ran past it, it started to chase after, then backed up and rooted itself again. At night, a pack of wolves harassed Evren for a while before he drove them off with a barrage of magical arrows.
The sun was coming up as Evren exited the forest. He finally stopped running and walked the rest of the way to Plinth's east gate. Along the way he was scanning inside the town for anything but felt nothing out of place. He entered through the gate and barred the door. The first place he went to was the magic shop, where he grabbed the backpack he had ignore previously. He set it on the table and opened it. The inside seemed dark, so Evren grabbed a nearby cloak and tossed it in. It disappeared into the hole and Evren couldn't see it anymore. He reached his hand inside and felt around, but it was much larger than it seemed.
Thinking, "I want the cloak." Evren finally was able to grab the cloak and remove it from the bag. Evren dropped his sack inside the backpack. It didn't fit at first, but when Evren adjusted the contents and it got past the entrance, it slipped in and disappeared. Evren threw the leather backpack over his shoulder and headed to the warehouse district.
There he went to the supplies where the ingots were placed and put as much into the backpack as he could. The small pockets on the outside of the backpack seemed to have their own storage capabilities and he put the smaller ingots into those, separating them by type. Evren wanted to put some barrels of oil in the backpack, but he couldn't fit it through the opening, so he settled on a few small kegs and casks.
Evren left the warehouse district and headed to the shop he stayed at and picked up the things he didn't want to carry, which were a lot of books and some maps. Once Evren had everything he wanted, he headed to the jeweler's place where the gem polisher and the reducer were located. He finished flattening and etching one stone by evening, so he decided to take a break and rest there in the jeweler's store.
The next day Evren managed to finish two more stones before the sun went down. He continued working into the night because the days were shorter, and he wanted to leave in the morning. Once he finished the fourth mana gem, he put it in his backpack and headed to the apartment where he went to sleep for the night. He woke before dawn and put his lantern in the backpack as he wanted to use it in the house he was staying at. He ate a quick breakfast and headed to the gate, barring it from the outside.
Two days later, Evren was running through the Aernide Fortress towards the dungeon. When he reached the dungeon, he stopped running and walked along the passage until he reached the room with the collapsed table and chair. He poured magic into the glyph and appeared on the 86th floor. It was close to evening when he arrived, and he had run non-stop both ways, so he was walking leisurely towards Anbuton. He was tired, but he reported his return to Joseph stating he was going to bathe and get some rest.
The next morning, he awoke and found Walter patrolling the town. He did his morning swordsmanship training and headed to the forge where Levi was. Evren and Levi went over the location of where the new forge was going to be located and where all the new clay and stone were. Evren then went to his tools and sat at the table. He started grinding one of the ingots he had brought with him down with a file, colleting the shavings in a bag. When he finished the ingot, he grabbed another doing the same. After Evren had ground down three ingots this way, he held the back that contained them, seemingly satisfied.
Evren went to where the clay was stored, seeing that it was located inside of two large boxes. He made a depression in the clay and added water to the box, stirring it with a stick to get a slurry. He added half of the filings to the slurry and kept stirring. He was using 'heat'' on the slurry to get it to dry out quicker, but it still took a long time for it to thicken enough that he didn't need to stir it anymore. He repeated the process for the other box of clay and washed himself clean with a bucket.
Evren explained what he was doing to Levi during the day. He had enchanted the metal he was filing, which was mithril, with heat resistance. The next day, Evren would work on creating the framework for the forge. Once that was complete, he would do the etching and set the gems in place. The framework was going to be made from mithril itself, so it didn't need any special inlay to make it work, but Evren used the holy silver anyway, to improve the performance.
He did so secretly so Levi wouldn't have a heart attack, again. He was shocked to see that Evren was going to make a frame out of mithril and with the amount of mithril he had.
It had been four days since he started working on the forge and now, they were making bricks. Pascal and Amelia had brought Harley by, and they were all working together. Once the bricks were made and dried, they'd be fired in the furnace and allowed to cool before Evren would begin construction of the new forge.
While the bricks were drying, Evren showed Levi how to make quicklime from chalk. He would be needing the quicklime to make the cement for the mortar. Clay had been used on Levi's current forge and although it was effective, it was also effectively leaking heat everywhere. Evren used this 'feature' to dry out the clay he was making into bricks.
Evren also showed Levi how to use quicklime to refine the ore, and to tell the difference between the quality of ore. Once Levi had good ore, Evren showed him the steps he was missing in his forging with Levi noticing the difference right away. With those simple fixes, the quality of Levi's work increased significantly.
Days later, when the bricks had finally dried out, Evren fired them in the furnace, nearly making himself faint as he used all of his magic to make sure the furnace was hot enough for long enough to properly fire the bricks. When all the bricks were fired properly, Evren and Levi checked the bricks for cracks or other flaws. Evren said, "I'm glad none of the bricks exploded."
Levi stopped what he was doing, "What?"
Evren looked at Levi and said, "What?"
Levi frowned and said, "You said something what was it?"
Evren shrugged and said, "Did I say something? Huh, musta missed it."
Evren had dug out where he was going to build the forge and had put sand down, tamping it in place. He had laid out several stones as a foundation, and had the frame in place, all he had to do was put the firebricks in and build up the forge around them. He mixed quicklime, sand and water for the mortar and had made impromptu rebar out of mithril that he attached to the frame to give strength and stability to the forge.
Levi helped Evren as he built up the forge by bringing the rocks, and mixing mortar when he was low. The two had gathered quite a crowd, with some other craftsmen watching Evren intently. Occasionally they would call out to him with a question, which he would calmly answer while continuing to work.
The next step was to prepare the anvil. Having it sit on a heavy log was fine, but even that would move around, so Evren dug a hole about a meter deep and set a log inside it so that its height when sticking out of the hole with the anvil on top would be perfect for smithing. Then using quicklime, sand, gravel and water he made a concrete base for the foundation. After a few hours of work, they finished to applause from the townsfolk.
Many people wanted them to make something right away, but they had to wait for the mortar and concrete to set, which would be in two days. The following day would be going over the final touches, such as adding the bellows, and setting the fire doors. When the forge was finally completed, a few excited folks from around town stopped by to watch what Levi was going to make first.
