Chapter 40 - Relationship

"Dylan is sure taking time," Macy said as she glanced at the door.

"How about you call him?" Luka suggested.

"He turns his phone off when he is on duty, remember?"

"I forgot about that."

Macy filled the glass with water and walked to Luka. "I am worried."

"It's okay, mom."

"...." Macy just stood there while holding the glass.

Realizing that his words wouldn't calm Macy down, Luka thought of an idea.

"How about we mess with him a little when he comes home?"

"What do you mean?"

Luka whispered something in Macy's ear.

"How about it?" Luka asked.

"Are you sure? What if he gets angry?" Macy asked with a worried look on her face.

"It's fine." Luka patted Macy's shoulders and said with a grin on his face, "This is just a little revenge for making my dear mom worry too much."

"Let's do it."

"Yeah," Luka nodded.

"But first, he needs to come home," they both said in unison.

Half an hour later, Dylan came home.

He opened the front door and closed it, then locked it.

"I am home… huh? Why are you still awake, Macy?"

"Hmph!" Macy puffed her cheeks and turned her face away from Dylan.

"What's going on? Why are you…" Dylan stopped when he saw Luka in the kitchen. "Hey, Luka, you are awake too?"

"I was talking to mom," Luka stated.

"I see." Dylan then looked at Macy and said with an exhausting look on his face, "Hey, Macy, I am hungry. Can you give me dinner?"

Macy pointed her gaze on the table as she said, "It's already on the table."

Dylan took off his coat and walked to the table, then touched the plate.

"It's cold; heat it for me."

"Do it yourself."

"Wha…!" Dylan's jaw dropped. "Hey, what's wrong? Why are you avoiding me?"

"It's your fault, old man," said Luka.

"My fault? I was on duty. Come on; I couldn't help it."

"That's not what she is angry about."

"Then what…?" Dylan asked with a confused look on his face.

"I told mom everything."

"What are you talking about?" Dylan was even more confused.

"I saw you with a woman a while ago, so I told mom you are cheating on her."

"What the hell are you saying?! Macy, he is lying! I wouldn't do something like that." Dylan's panic grew with every sentence. "There is just no--"

"Hahahahaha," Luka and Macy couldn't hold their laugh any longer.

"Sorry dear, we were just messing with you."

"I see," Dylan sighed in relief.

"Learn from this and keep your phone on during duty," Luka remarked.

"Wow, I am being scolded by my son."

"You too, Luka." Macy looked at Luka.

"What do you mean?"

"Did you see how worried I was even though it's your dad's job?"

"Yeah?"

"How do you think Ana must have felt?"

"..."

"Here you were trying to make your dad understand, so you should also… you know?"

"Yeah. I guess this is bad."

"Not only that, Me and your dad are married, so we are used to it. But you and Ana recently started going out, so spend your time with her. It's… very precious."

"Yeah," Luka nodded.

"Once you graduate from the academy, you don't know where you might go. The same for Ana. If you two choose different paths, it might affect your relationship too, so you need to make sure you are all clear and honest with her."

"Yeah,"

"Calm down, Macy. Look at his face; he is already feeling so guilty, and you are trying to… you know what I mean, right? Luka is smart, and so is Ana. Let them handle this on their own, okay?" Dylan interrupted.

"Yeah, I guess."

Macy grabbed the plate and went to the kitchen to heat the food.

"So, what happened?" Luka asked Dylan.

"About what?"

"The body; Did you guys find any clue?"

"No, we didn't." Dylan shook his head. "He was decapitated, and no monster can do something like that. Most likely, it was done by some exorcist, and the experts are looking into it."

"I see."'

'I was worried for nothing' Luka let out a sigh and began walking to the stairs.

"Hey, wait!" Dylan called.

Luka stopped and slowly looked back at Dylan, "Yes?"

"You will get a new substitute teacher soon."

"I... see," Luka sighed again.

'That nearly skipped my heartbeat.'

"I am going to bed; Goodnight."

"Goodnight"

Luka walked upstairs and stood in front of his room, then glanced at Lily's room.

"Should I take a look?"

Luka knocked on Lily's door, but she didn't answer.

'Should I go in?'

Luka was worried about Lily, so he didn't give much thought and entered Lily's room.

'It's open.'

Luka walked to Lily's bed. It was covered with a blanket.

Luka slowly moved his hand to the blanket and peeked inside, then sighed in relief.

'She is here.'

He caressed Lily's face and left the room.

After he left, Lily opened her eyes and looked at the door.

"Idiot," she muttered.

Luka entered his room and changed his clothes. He checked the time; it was 00: 47.

Luka glanced at his window and walked to it, then opened his window. Ana's window was opened but covered by curtains.

Luka slowly got out of his room, jumped to Ana's window, and peeked from the curtains.

Ana was sleeping with her phone in hand. Luka chuckled and walked into her room.

He took the phone from Ana's hand, and the phone's screen lit up.

Luka's eyes widened as soon as he saw the screen.

Luka smiled bitterly and looked at Ana. "Why didn't you send it?"

He placed the phone on the table and walked to Ana, then grabbed her hand.

'I guess this is what it's like to be in a relationship.'

Luka moved his face closer to Ana's and kissed her on the forehead.

"This is what I can do for you, for now."

Luka then left her room and jumped into his room.

He looked at the moon in the sky from his window and recalled what had happened today.

"I killed an exorcist today."

'But he wasn't an exorcist. He was a devil in an exorcist skin.'

SIgh~

'Deep down, I believed that there is always a reason for someone to become evil, but I was wrong. Evil can't be cured.'

"I need to find every one of them and end all evil with my own hands."
