As Ver opened his eyes, he felt his body being washed over by fatigue. He wanted to close his eyes, but everytime he did, he would see the mounds of bodies. The walker would chase him, ultimately eating him in the end.
Ver was about to drift into a restless sleep, the door to his blank room opened. He tried sitting up, but he was restricted, probably some kind of magic. The man was wearing a completely black outfit, even covering his face.
He said in a blank voice," Is your name Ver, no last name?"
Yes
"You were conscripted after being caught deserting?"
"I was..."
Yes or no
Yes
"Ok, you will now give your account to the events that occurred yesterday..."
....
" So you are saying that a single spell killed an entire army, yet you somehow survive, out of thousands of others, and survived a Corpse Walker, as a mortal man?", said the interrogator, clearly suggesting some thing.
He too was a man, in all black. If Ver knew who these men truly were, he would probably faint. They were the kings personal spies. They of course already knew the truth, but they can't tell the people, their army was single handedly wiped out. Thus they were going to tell the public, it was a powerful magic beast that killed and caused major casualties. Then get rid of the only loose end.
" I would never lie..."
Silence!
"Our country will not take traitors trying to cause public unrest, we have reason to believe you are one, thus will be treated as..."
Ver was shocked at first, then he put the pieces together, all the questions before hand and the kingdoms true intentions. If someone dug into this event and discovered his account, it would not matter, as he was written down as a deserter, thus losing any credibility. Getting rid of him keeps the true story from leaking and affecting the whole kingdom. If he was not the one being framed, he would be impressed by the plan.
As Ver already knew the outcome of this "investigation", he remained silent.
"Good, you already accepted your fate, now you will be sent to the deepest prison, where you will never see the sun again, be tortured for any information you contain, before being executed in public, may you burn in hell".
...
After traveling in a blacked out carriage for what seemed for hours, the door was finally opened. The same men dragged him out and roughly slamming him on a magic circle. Then his vision became blurry, he was teleported in a white room. He stayed there for hours until a wall finally opened. Another person in black, a woman , dragged Ver out with one hand even though he was much bigger than her.
He was dragged to a dark cell, with only a candle for light.
The figure said, " You will sleep here, the torturers will see you tomorrow, you will definitely love their attention...", she said with a chuckle.
Ver only stared at her before entering his cell.
After sitting on his bed,he finally broke. He cried until he couldn't anymore. He could not believe his own country would do this to him. Then it hit him. He was weak. If he had power, he would not have been conscripted, would have fought against that mage, killed the walker, and would be a free man right now.
But it was to late, he would be tortured for information he does not know and killed as an innocent man.
"No, it is not the end..", said an aged voice
"Who Is there...?"
Then Ver saw an old man on the opposite side. Even though it was dark he could see all the new opened wounds from torture. He skin was stripped, finger nails were missing, teeth pulled out. However, the man looked like he could not feel the pain.
"There is a chance for you, my time is running out, but you, I see potential, I can tell you were wrongly put here, much like myself, but that is another story.. I will give you the basic knowledge of magic and get you out of this hell hole..."
Ver was shocked and exited, but cautious at the same time, it was too good to be true.
As if reading Vers mind the man said," Naturally, I have a request, it is simple, but I will not tell you now, once you reach a sufficient level of power, you will know.. hurry decide, they are coming for me..."
As he said that, they could hear doors and foot steps...
Closer and closer the steps got until...
"I accept"
As soon as he said that, his vision blurry, then it went black....
In the cell the old man had a smile on his face," Good luck, my friend, I'll be in your care..."
Then, he closed his eyes for the last time.....
