Thomas walks away thinking, 'It could be any of the women who used to have dinners and lunches with him?
They must be angry with the news of I being married, but not many of them had called but Jenny was extremely furious. Would she stoop that low?
Well just as I got the men's fingerprint, I will just have to strategize a plan to get their fingerprint.'
Thursday night Thomas sit with the family at the dinner table, as a new kitchen attendant, attends to the serving of the meals.
Saying nothing Thomas just observed the unhappy faces, with what was prepared and set before them. With his head bent concentrated on what was on his dinner plate.
Thinking, 'It was passable enough, but my happiness could not be suppressed. When Dad said, "Cynthia, I was wondering where is Mrs. Marva?"
"I don't know what is happening in this house anymore Sam. Why don't you ask Thomas, he and his wife have more information than I."
"Cynthia, my Son is home not for you to pester his life, Thomas have you any idea where Christa is?"
Looking at his Dad, 'So they don't have any idea that she has returned. I know it's not good to lie especially to my parents but what should I say?' "Dad she is okay."
"Have you found her?"
Hearing his mother saying, "Look, Sam, change the topic please, I need some peace since that young lady come into this house, it's like all hell has broken loose."
"I know exactly what you mean Cynthia, it's like the devil manifests himself over you and some of the children.
But thank God for her I have had peace once more since I started attending Sunday Services.
And you should know this because of that child the Pastor holds the Fortune name in high esteem. Now I want to know where Mrs. Marva has gone?"
"You know she was planning to leave when she heard Thomas had left the house."
"You mean to say she has left her job?" Sam questions.
"I don't know where she is Sam, but the note I found by the phone says. A relative is unwell and she will be away for a few days. What is so funny Thomas?" Cynthia asks seeing him smiling.
"Me, Mom! I was just thinking that I have a supporter."
"And you feel that is funny, wait until she returns, wherever she went. I will send her back with flying colors."
"Mom, you can be ignorant at times, but I had hired her, and when Christa returns home. Mrs. Marva will attend to her needs alone."
"You are bringing her back in this house?"
"Mom, if you want me in this house, you have to accept my wife. I am home because she insists I come, but if my wife has no place here then I will leave."
Standing up Thomas turn to leave, "Wait a minute Thomas, this is your home, if anyone has to leave it will be your Mom and me."
"Dad, there's no need to do that, it is only Christa and me, but you have the others to think about."
"Thomas, your mother should have thought about that first, but when Christa is well enough, she must know this is her home."
"What is wrong with the two of you, we are a family?" Cynthia raised her voice a bit.
"Family! Cynthia, you don't want Thomas's wife and you expect me to accept that, and you say we are a family?
The child accommodated us by saving the family name, she was abused by her fiancé. And her family must have been brought to shame because of her decision.
Yet being a mother, you were supposed to comfort her and see her pain. Instead, you sound so heartless and make unjust decisions when the situation arises.
Seeing her tears so many times breaks my heart, and we dealt unjustly to her and every turn I make in church, I only get praises for what the child has given on our behalf."
"Okay Sam, since you feel so strongly about her, I don't' care but I want some peace in my house. And some good tasting food, this food here is horrible."
"I understand what you are saying Cynthia, but you have to accept her. She is carrying my grandchild and I don't want her to be stressed out. Do you hear me and one other thing, I want no interference in the way they choose to live."
"Dad pleases, I know when Mom gets to understand Christa, they will get along perfectly." Seeing the way his mother was looking at him. Thomas ignores the look and smiles saying, "Now, if you will excuse me I am going to bed."
Reaching halfway in the hall, when the phone rings. Calling out to his parents, "I will get it." Walking towards the space saver and picks up the phone. "Hello, goodnight Fortune resident."
Hearing Mrs. Marva's voice saying, "Sir it is I, the Mistress is not well please come now. She told me not to call you, but you need to be here. Sir, I told her I will not, Sir I am truly afraid that is why I am calling.
Sir, she hasn't eaten anything since yesterday afternoon, and Sir she keeps trembling. I have never seen anything like this, I tried covering her but it is not helping."
"Mrs. Marva please try and calm down, I bought ginger, make her some hot ginger tea and I am on my way so stop worrying."
Noticing Mom and Dad looking at him as he replaces the receiver. Before they could say a word, Thomas grabs his van keys and dash out the door.
"Why didn't I think of that? This distance to cover every day is difficult.
I must make another arrangement to be near her. This running up and down is not good for her, and I will be worn out myself.'
Seeing the roadway clear Thomas, Thank God the road wasn't very busy, looking at his watch.
'It only took him ninety minutes,' entering the apartment seeing Mrs. Marva in tears walking up and down.
"Sir, she is sick, I tried everything I know, I am so afraid for her, and the way she is weak we might lose the baby."
"Mrs. Marva please, try not to say that, I know she is not well, but she and the baby will be fine. Have you made the tea for her?"
"Yes, Sir but she is trembling so much, I could not feed her because if it spills on her, she might get burned."
