Chereads / Strength over all / Chapter 36 - The Academy?

Chapter 36 - The Academy?

"This is unexpected. It seems like I overestimated this world."

After I gained the ability to see and feel the mana of other beasts or races along with my extremely sharpened senses I was constantly feeling the mana of rather strong beasts like the bears I had fought a lot of times or the Orzeths I had to fight once.

"But this is really a bit disappointing."

The mana of a normal human seems to really be low if you consider their standing as a race.

Normal beasts with way less intelligence like the wolves I had to fight in the forest before getting to the mountains could probably fight against an adult human man.

Of course thinking about that from the perspective of my previous world is completely normal and the humans would probably even loose in a 1 on 1 without any weapons, but I thought this world would be fundamentally different.

There are a few people who have stronger mana than normal people, it's mostly guards walking around the city, mercenaries or sometimes nobles although they are rather rare to group them in with these still rather weak people.

The nobles and sometimes even people I wouldn't have guessed, like old men or typical looking women are able to use magic, but seeing these people is really quite rare.

I knew that not all people are able to use magic, but in Raiken it really seems like the magicians are really in the minority.

"Now drop your money boy and don't think about trying to intimidate us with that fake sword."

So encountering these idiots in front of me, 5 men, all looking rather roofed up, probably living in poverty and robbing people in this alley was really disappointing.

They aren't even worth for me to draw my sword against.

I can clearly see that their mana is only that of an above average adult. Probably training their strength a bit, but nothing like combat experience.

Raiken is a beautiful city, in my opinion it's the best looking city I have ever seen. Although that could also be the result of my dislike to the big cities with almost no time, where you can actually relax due to the constant noises from outside.

But in every city there are certain ares that shelter people that have nothing left and although if every human were nice this probably wouldn't exist, but firstly such a world couldn't work and secondly there are just too many people that only look out for themselves, some have to and some choose to.

Well how did I even get here? Actually it's a bit embarrassing to think about, but I got lost in this big city, after not really looking where I went. I wanted to find the mana of someone really powerful, just to see these people and to maybe get led to an interesting place, but I got lost after walking around for only a few minutes.

Well back to these guys I really don't want to just kill them, after all they are probably only in this situation due to bad circumstances, so I plan on letting them off.

"Hear me out, I am sorry for your situation and you can probably see that I don't even have a lot myself, but I am fairly strong, strong enough to easily win against you, so please don't make this harder than it has to be."

"Oh, so you still want to scare us, hmm? If your weapons are actually real than we will accept them as the... let's say passing fee, but if you don't want to give them up we will have to take them by force."

Looking at them again. They really do sound like scum, but I can't just kill them.

"Ok I'm just gonna leave, you can't stop me, so just don't bother anymo-"

*Swush*

An arrow flew at flew right besides me, well I wasn't really in danger, because I could already see the guy at the back trying to shoot it and predicting the arrow I just evaded in front of one of the other guys, who were standing in front of him.

But, now they really made me fairly angry!

"To attack a "little boy" with an arrow while he was talking. Do you have a death wish?"

They looked a bit shocked at me evading it so easily but wanted to come at me together now.

I wanted to just leave, after knocking them all out, but then I suddenly felt the mana of someone truly powerful.

He stood a few hundred meters away from me, and although I could feel his mana I couldn't really feel any pressure from him, something I should normally be able to, even against that incredibly strong beast.

I guessed that he was only observing, but I jumped back and looked directly into the rough direction I could feel his mana coming from.

I could see him and from his mana alone I could tell he was stronger than me, but when I looked at him he seemed surprised and then he was gone.

I couldn't see him anymore, but I could feel his mana and for the first time I could feel someone really using magic.

Suddenly the wind seemed like it was moving faster than before and then he was standing next to us.

I was honestly shocked at his pure speed, moving hundreds of meters in a few seconds over the houses all around us was definitely not easy, but he seemingly effortlessly stood there next to me.

"Do you need help against the likes of them?"

The old man looked at me with anticipation, but then I was distracted by the likes of these bandits in front of me.

"Wait that old man, isn't that the princess's personal teacher."

"What, no way."

"B-But he just used wind magic didn't he?"

"It really seemed like it."

They seemed full of fear and slowly backed away.

"Against them? I'll take care of it."

I would really like to talk to the old man, but first I had to take care of the guys, who wanted to kill me a few seconds ago.

I didn't need to kill them, so I didn't bother to use my sword or my bow.

I rushed forwards and from that distance, although he seemed like the strongest of the bandits I hit him into his stomach and unconsciously put a bit too much strength into it.

"Urghh."

He flew backwards right at one of his comrades, knocking him down with him in the process.

Then I moved towards the 3rd bandit and because he looked a bit stronger I just waited for him to try and grab me and then jumped up, grabbed his head and rammed my knee against it, causing him to fly backwards.

"What the fuck is wrong with this guy."

The bandit with the bow tried to shoot an arrow at me and because I was still in the air I head to think of something.

I could've just caught it but I wanted to make it more fun, so I grabbed the head of guy in front of me again, used it to turn myself in the air and as my feet touched the wall I catapulted myself from the wall and hit the guy who just shot at me in the face, causing him to fly more than 5 meters away until he finally hit a wall and lost consciousness.

"I hope the guy didn't die, but that was fun, now one is left isn't there."

The last bandit wanted to run away, but I took my knife out of my pocket and threw it at his jacket with pin point accuracy.

It cleanly nailed him against the wall and was so deep inside of the wall that he couldn't get out.

He tried to take of his jacket, but struggled to do so.

"Now come one we both know that you can't escape just give up."

"Y-you-you're a demon. Go away."

I walked up to him and just knocked him out with one punch in the stomach

"Oh come on you think I am a demon you should've listened to me, but no. You had to shoot at me, even twice."

"You're quite good for your age."

The man walked up to me and looked kind of fulfilled.

"Although you're physical skills are pretty good, that's not the most special thing about you."

"What do you mean?"

"Oh, did you know that you have the potential to become a magician?"

I got a bit anxious, but I was pretty sure he doesn't know about my special magic and magic center.

"You're mana flow, it seems like you're already close to break through on your own, I have never seen something like that and you didn't use magic right now, after all you don't seem to have a mana stone in your weapon or anything."

"Are you for real? I could really become a magician?"

I just hope he won't notice that I am not really surprised, but acting like I can't use magic yet would be the best for now, maybe it'll lead me to some good opportunity.

"Yes, I see that you have potential. Maybe you could even join "the academy" if you want to."

"The academy. Sorry, but I am new in this city, so I don't know about it, could you explain."

He looked kind of surprised, but also amused at the same time.

"Well if you would like to, with my help you could join in with the other students in the new year of the best magic academy of Raiken. The "Raiken academy". I know the name is pretty uncreative, but it's a good chance for you to learn magic and get stronger with other magicians."

"And when would the new year start?"

With a smirk on his face he proceeded to talk.

"Well the new year is going to be exactly tomorrow, so if I were you I would decide quickly."

What, tomorrow. But I should try it and I am just going to leave, if I don't like it, I mean they won't just not let me leave will they.

"Well I will at least try it."

He asked me one more thing, which somehow seemed to be of high importance to him.

"Oh and what is your name, fellow soon to be magician."

"Yori, it's Yori Tsuyoku."

He looked satisfied and then left with telling me only one more thing.

"Well, it's as I thought. That's quite good, I have to tell someone else about this too, but come to the royal palace and wait for me I'll come and bring somebody else, okay?"

"Y-Yeah, sure."

And then he was gone, as fast as he came.

And then I finally realized it.

The royal palace?!
