Chapter 40 - Selfish

"Oh my god!! You finally woke up!", Will exclaimed, as he ran across the room, leaping onto the hospital bed to greet the old man with a hug. The joy in young omega's voice made Uncle Lee burst into laughter, "Looks like someone missed me!!", he replied as he patted the boy's head.

"Will?! Don't jump on him like that! You could've hurt him", Kian scolded as he sat up from the couch that was placed a few feet away from the bed. Will worriedly looked at the old man to check whether he caused any damage as soon as he saw Kian's frowning face.

"It's alright. You're still too tiny to hurt this strong man here. Don't worry", Uncle Lee smiled at Will, assuring the boy that he need not worry about him. The tense expression on the boy's face eased a little and he smiled back.

Kian rolled his eyes at Uncle Lee's comment. Strong? It took his body two whole days to recover from that intense surgery and get off that giant ventilation machine.

All this time he was staying at the hospital watching this man's unconscious state, listening to the beeping sounds from the monitor, he was worried sick. And now he has finally woke up he's bragging about his strength when he barely has any?

As he shook his head with exasperation his gaze accidentally landed on the door where that man he'd been ignoring for two days was standing, staring back at him intensely. The dark circles around his eyes and his tousled platinum blonde hair were enough proof that he hadn't slept, just like himself.

Just a glance of that man was enough to turn Kian's face red with embarrassment, remembering what he had done in that balcony of the hospital a couple nights ago. He turned his eyes away from the alpha's face, fidgeting, trying his best to hide his distress.

"Oh, you're here too", Uncle Lee realized Elian's presence, not missing Kian's awkward reaction to the same. The alpha nodded in reply.

"He drove me to the hospital", Will explained as he realized that Uncle Lee wasn't expecting him, "After Kian called, I couldn't wait to see you. Do you have any idea how much you worried all of us?", he complained.

"I'm so sorry buddy. I promise it won't happen again", Uncle Lee assured the boy sitting next to him on the hospital bed.

An awkward silence followed as everyone fell silent in the room.

Flustered, Kian was trying his best to sit still in his place and avoid any eye contact with the alpha while Elian's eyes were glued onto him. Uncle Lee and Will couldn't help but notice the tension between the other two.

The elder man's first instinct was to glower at the other alpha. He hadn't yet understood the relationship between the two and couldn't help but notice that it wasn't consensual for sure, at least from Kian's side. But before he could say anything to Elian, Will's little fingers pinched on his arm.

His eyes minced with pain so as to play along, even though he barely felt anything. He turned to look at Will, who was frowning back at him. The boy leaned in to whisper into his ear, "He saved you. Be nice", the omega instructed in his childish tone that made Uncle Lee chuckle.

"Oh! I almost forgot, I prepared chicken soup for you.", Will exclaimed, jumping off the bed to fetch the tote bag from Elian's hand. "You should have this before it gets cold", he began to unpack it on the bedside table.

The more time Elian spent in the room the more it drove Kian anxious. He couldn't even breathe properly with that rich alpha standing around staring at him so profoundly. He reached for the half empty water bottle sitting on the side table by the couch and picked it up, "I'll be back in a minute", he announced looking at Uncle Lee and swiftly exited the room, walking past Elian without sparing him a glance.

Elian's gaze finally let go of the omega. He glanced at Uncle Lee and realized that he was probably being glared at this whole time. "How are y-you feeling?", he uttered, feeling slightly intimidated by the older alpha.

"Better. Thanks to you apparently", Uncle Lee tried his best to not sound snide.

"Here you go", Will brought the white soup spoon closer to Uncle Lee's mouth.

Elian didn't mind the passive aggressive tone. He could understand that the man was only being protective of Kian. But right now he was more worried about the omega. He was staying at the hospital ever since Uncle Lee was admitted. Who knows how much sleep he had? He wouldn't even talk to him, not even look at him. How is supposed to take care of him if he keeps getting ignored like this? Elian wondered.

"Umm…for someone who can barely cook this is fantastic", Uncle Lee complemented.

"Very funny", Will replied, sarcastically as he passed him a glare while the old man chuckled. "Elian, Would you like some?", he asked.

Elian was pulled out of daze, "Huhh?! Uhh no thanks", he said before rushing out the door.

As walked past the hallway of the hospital, his eyes scanned every corner for the omega. After a few seconds of searching, he spotted the red cardigan he'd been looking for. The boy was standing next to the water cooler down the hallway. He was uncomfortably leaning against the wall as if to attain balance.

What is he doing? Elian wondered. As the boy managed to let go of the support, his knees buckled and with a thud he fell to the floor. Oh no! He fainted, Elian realized as he ran towards him.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Kian? Kian?", the familiar voice rang in his ears. As his eyes fluttered open, the blurry image of a face appeared on top of him. Those blue eyes, holding that same worried emotion in them as that day on the balcony, were piercing into him. His strong hands were clutching onto Kian's shoulder on either side, "Are you okay?", he asked.

The omega didn't understand how to react at that moment. This man to whom he'd been so rude, so bitter was utterly unmoved by his spitefulness. His eyes were still filled with care and affection. Kian wouldn't want to admit it, but it didn't bother him as much as it used to.

"Kian?", the alpha shrugged him lightly by his shoulders, "Can you hear me? Are you okay?", he asked again. Kian could only nod back.

"His pheromone levels are critically low for a pregnant omega. Maybe that's why he fainted. We can run other tests if you want", the female voice said. The twenty year old turned his head to the side and saw a lady in scrubs standing a few feet away from the bed. The bed? He was in a room. Looked like another hospital ward, similar to the one where Uncle had been staying. "But right now, he needs a lots and lots of rest", the woman added.

"That's alright. We'll have them done later", Elian replied to her. She nodded back and walked out the door.

Elian let out a long sigh. He sat himself down on the bed next to Kian, just quietly looking at the floor. Not a word escaped his lips. Is he worried about him? Or is he just disappointed in him, that he couldn't take care of his child? That look on his face, like he was regretful, was hurting Kian.

"I need to be with Uncle Lee", the omega's voice was soft, maybe because of the weakness, but his tone was rather dismissive. As he pushed against the bed to lift himself up and sit, the alpha's hands grabbed onto his shoulders, slamming him back onto the bed.

"Ah!", a tiny scream escaped his mouth as he absorbed the shock from that sudden force.

"You're not going anywhere! Didn't you hear her? You need rest", the alpha scolded. This was the first time he'd seen him so angry. It almost brought tears to the omega's eyes.

"And Uncle Lee needs me. For god's sake, isn't it always about the child for you? Your child? You? Is that all you care about? You're so fucking selfish!!", Kian yelled back, his voice cracking.

Elian's eyes widened with disbelief. "Are you being serious right now? I'm selfish for wanting to take care of you?", he sighed. He didn't want to raise his voice anymore, the boy under him was on the verge of breaking down completely. "Kian, what is this really about? Why are you being like this?", his tone softened.

Kian struggled to escape himself out of the alpha's strong grasp, but failed. It wasn't surprising either. Tears started to drip down his cheeks, one by one.

"Kian? What is it?", the calm voice asked again, "Just tell me for god's sake".
