Chapter 33 - He's Not Himself

Your POV

I walked out of potions to go care for the plants again, I don't know how to react to caring for the plants again, all I know is that I have an enhanced feeling of loneliness. I tried to stay out of view when walking to the Greenhouse, the less people see me the less time they have to notice if anything is wrong or different. I turn the corner in the corridor and bump into Pansy and her mob of merry henchmen. Pansy spilt a small amount of her water. I mentally facepalm for such a stupid mistake. I kept my head down, quickly trying to leave.

"Where do you think you're going freak?" She growled as I got tugged back and shoved against the wall with a thud.

"You really thought you could leave mudblood" She sneered.

"You didn't even spill it on yourself" I said. She scoffed and poured her water over my head. At least it's just water. Her friends thought this was hilarious.

"You've had your fun can I go now?" I asked monotoned.

"You never learn do you, freak?" She said as her and her posey proceeded to beat me up. I was slouched against the wall with blood trickling from my lip as my whole body ached.

"You need to learn your place, loser" She said spinning around to leave.

"Great lesson, same time tomorrow?" I choked out with cocky smile. She rolled her eyes. I seemed to have really taken to sarcasm as a means of hiding my pain. She kicked me in the ribs.

"You really are a waste of space, no one wants you here" She left with her friends tagging along behind her.

I wiped my lip with the back of my hand and lent against the wall to aid my body while trying to stand up. I slowly limped to the Greenhouse and started my daily care for the plants. They were in much better condition now, Neville would have been proud of me. I sighed frowning.

"Heh waste of space, that's a new one" I mumbled to myself, I dug through my bag pulling out a black leather journal. It wasn't like a regular journal or diary that the typical girl would have, this was a journal containing words and sentences about what I thought or others thought about me. I wrote hurtful things about myself in black ink and what I've heard others say about me in red ink.

I took out my quill and red ink flipping to an almost full page and wrote down 'Waste of space'

As I sat in the Greenhouse I re-read through the pages. Wow I need help. I let out a single breath of laughter. I took out my razor and pulled up my sleeve. I'm so broken. I was about to slice into my skin when I heard footsteps. I quickly threw my journal and razor in my bag flipping my sleeve back down just in time as Harry came in.

"Y/n are you okay?" He asked seeing my face. I nodded.

"I'm fine. Did you come to talk about the last task?" I asked him changing the subject.

"Ah yeah, have you been practicing spells?" He asked.

"Yep" I lied. He frowned looking at me more intently.

"Have you noticed that Neville seems different?" He asked watching my reaction. I turned my head away.

"Not really, I mean he seems happier" I spilt the last part.

"No, like he's not himself" Harry said.

"And?" I shrugged hoping he would drop the subject.

"Well I thought you might know since you were so close to him" Harry continued. That hit a nerve.

"Well I'm not anymore so why don't you ask his perfect girlfriend, or better yet talk to him about it." I snapped suddenly feeling a familiar dizziness wash over me. No no no don't faint, not right now. He would take me to the hospital wing and everyone will find out.

I took a deep breath and sat down.

"I'm sorry if I upset you" Harry said taking a step forward. I shook my head slowly.

"No it's fine, sorry I snapped at you. I think I'm just stressed about the task. I do really have to take care of these plants though so maybe we could talk about the task later." I said managing to change the subject and politely tell Harry to leave. He nodded.

"Yeah we can talk then." He left and I sighed leaning my head back.

Harry's POV

I found Ron and Hermione, telling them what happened. Hermione tuts.

"I knew she still cared about him" She said thoughtfully. I was confused.

"How does that mean she still likes him, she did say it was better that they were split up." I said. Hermione huffs.

"She lied, do you really think that her suddenly not talking or hanging out with anyone means she's happy about their break up. She has no friends, she's always alone and she is failing her classes" Hermione filled me in.

"What she's failing?" Ron asked.

"You both never pay attention" She spoke again.

"Well what should we do?" I asked her.

"Well first we need to find out what is up with Neville, something is definitely wrong with him and his relationship with Hannah" She told us. I nodded.

"Yeah, I mean he seems overly obsessed with her yet he will ask us questions about her that he should already know." I said. Hermione looked at me like she knew something I didn't.

"Wait that sounds familiar, I could have sworn I read it in a book somewhere. I'll head to the library to research it, maybe I'll come across it again and hopefully it helps us with what is happening." She told Ron and I.

Knowing Hermione she will figure it out and hopefully she's right about Y/n still liking Neville. She could be, after all Y/n did become defensive when I brought up Neville's behavior to her.
