Blair Kingsley POV
"How many times do I have to tell you NOT to go out without wearing your lens!"
Third time this week.
"I was inside the house, those lenses are dangerous to wear all the time." I tried explaining.
"Yes Blair! A house with 25 foreign guests at the moment." She screamed.
It was best if I had kept quiet.
"I can't believe you're 24 years old, yet you have the behavior of a 10 year old. Learn to be responsible Blair!"
Mom should've taken Elis with her when she had left to U.K.
"Elis you're overreacting, everything is fine." I said trying to calm the woman down.
"Easy for you to say I'm the one who has to answer to your father. Anyways the board members have arrived. Go put on the damn lens and go and meet them in the meeting room." She said and left the room.
I am 24 year old girl, yet I couldn't make decisions of my own. At this point I'm used to being controlled 24/7.
It's not that I approved of it, I had no choice. My dad left no space for flaws and my mom...well I don't know much as she left when I was 10 years old.
______
I entered the board room and took my place in the long table near my dad who is the host.
"Good afternoon everyone. Today after a few long months of being under medication I have fully recovered and I'm completely healthy", he said in a very jolly tone.
"I have called all of you so that I could announce that I am now fit to take over again. Stephan will have to return the power of attorney."
Whispers were heard, my dad cleared his throat and carried on.
"The official signing of the power of attorney will be held on Saturday which is 2 days from now. The invitations will be sent shortly. This is also my welcome back party held by myself if you could say." He laughed at his own terrible joke.
Funny how the guy who's cracking lame jokes like this is the one that has caused huge losses for massive companies. He was ruthless.
Then, Tom cleared his throat. "Sir, if you don't mind, may I speak?"
"Certainly, go ahead Tom" my Dad said.
"Sir please take no offense but do you mind sharing with the board what your intentions are by getting back the power of attorney? We all will always be loyal to you and we have loved the ways you execute things but you have no rightful successor. Won't the power of attorney go back to Mr. Stephan either way?" Tom said and I could feel the anger boiling in me.
I clenched my fist on the table and stood up to respond.
"The rules in our bloodline only states that the next in line will be the heir and I'm very much alive Tom. I don't see why you have a query." I said as I gave him a glare.
I looked over to my Dad, he just sighed. He definitely saw this coming by the looks of it.
"Ms. Blair you are...a woman. No woman has ever taken over in your bloodline." Tom further argued.
"That is because my ancestors in this business never had a girl child...even if they did they would have a boy and the power would be given to him. I am perfectly capable of running this company to the expectations my Dad has set." I said.
Tom and a majority in the board didn't look satisfied but he still kept quiet and took his seat and I did too.
The meeting went on longer discussing various matters that took place in my Dad's absence. He didn't look too happy.
But there was something else bothering me. I had a bad feeling about Stephan in the first place.
After a good 2 hour meeting my dad stood up and everyone else followed.
"Blair meet me in my room in 15 minutes.", he whispered to me and left with everybody else. I sat there in silence too but I wasn't alone.
"Just spit it out already. Whatever it is, it's not gonna be good so might as well get it over with." I said staring right at him. All he did was smile.
"Princesa, you looked quite distracted today, now why was that? Didn't daddy give you a heads up?" He said with a mocking smirk.
"Ha ha." I replied coldly.
"A girl like you could never handle the pressure..." he said, out of the blue. The second those words left his mouth I felt a different vibe taking over me.
"Kaden I'm not here to listen to your shit. If you're done with your sexist assumptions I'm leaving." I said as I made my way out.
"Stephan and Mattia will arrive here soon Blair, as you mentioned in your very boring speech. You stated that you're the ONLY heir of your father and you're 'pretty much alive'. Well. If you weren't, guess who'd be happy?" He said and I stopped midway.
If I were to be murdered, Mattia, my first cousin, would take over.
"They may be greedy but they're not wicked enough to get rid of me in order to get power. Now if you'll excuse me." I said leaving the board room.
Stephan and Mattia may not be the best relatives but they're not Disney villains, they're not gonna get rid of me to make coats out of puppies.
But Kaden's words kept nagging at me. Somewhere deep inside I knew he was right.
As I stood for myself in that board room I had definitely put a bullseye on my back.
________
I walked towards my Dad's office, knocked and then entered.
"We will talk about this later. Send in those files with the evidence as soon as you can. I'll get back to you in a while.", he said and kept the phone down and looked at me.
"Blair you should've at least talked to me personally about this." He said.
"Dad I just had to take the opportunity. What is your decision now?" I asked.
I can't categorize my Dad as a sexist because when I first joined. he made sure I went through the same training done by all the other agents which were mostly men.
"Tesoro, you know I support you but this is something I can't talk about so quickly because what Tom mentioned is true, no female has ever ruled before..." It was obvious he worried about the security.
"I'm not forcing you to take a decision now Dad, but I am telling you one thing... you know I hate this mentality and this is my best chance to shut them up so please don't stand in my way." I said.
"I never stopped you, cara" my dad said with a smile.
He understood me, I wish everybody could...
"By the way I called you to also tell you that I'm going to be out for a while. You can have dinner without me. I'll most probably be late." He said
We still share a normal family bond.
