It was new year's eve in the 21st century. As the fireworks exploded over city A, the people celebrated in their homes. Somewhere in the city, a girl in white stood with a bloody knife clutched in her hand. Behind her was the body of a man with blood pooled around his body and eyes glassy. In front of her was another girl. She was dressed in tight-fitting black clothes that were torn in various places. On her face was an expression of shock and grief.
The girl in white moved.
"Die!", she screamed and pushed the knife into Luna's heart.
Luna fell to her knees, blood pouring down her chest and trickling from the corner of her mouth. As she collapsed, she saw her attacker laughing maniacally and then start crying like she was being torn to pieces. She limped across to the edge of the roof and tilted her head up as her laughter stopped. Luna watched the girl throw her arms wide open and jump, gravity pulling her down and ending her miserable existence.
The girl was Zheng Ruo Ruo, Luna's best friend. She had fallen in love with Luna's boyfriend and had come to the conclusion that he'd only love her if Luna was gone. She had colluded with the enemies and when Luna found out her mission was a trap, it was already too late.
Luna was lying on the roof of a skyscraper with various gashes on her body. Her leg was twisted at an unnatural angle. She was in so much pain, she couldn't make a sound.
As a result of Rou Rou's stupid mistake, the man they loved lost his life when he tried to save Luna. With him gone, Rou Rou was untethered. She lost her mind, stabbed Luna, and ended her own life in grief. Two people she had loved the most had died quick deaths, but fate let Luna bleed, slowly draining her, so she could grieve and mourn her lost family.
She wasn't angry at Rou Rou. She was disappointed. She had always thought of her as her sister yet, Rou Rou never talked to her about Qin Sheng. All those secrets and plotting has brought them all to a tragic ending.
The skies were pouring. It was as if the Heavens were weeping for the young lives lost.
As her vision began to darken around the edges, Luna knew she was really too far gone. She closed her eyes and accepted her fate.
Before she took her last breath a voice whispered,
"What would you do if you could live again?"
"I would live a better life for them.", she whispered and succumbed to the darkness.
*
Luna's eyes felt uncomfortable. She threw her arm over her face to block the too-bright light yet she felt like a light bulb was shining too close to her face. She scrunched her face and stretched her sore limbs. Her eyes slowly fluttered open.
She was lying on a marble floor. Everything was pure white. Too blinding.
Something in front of her moved. Out of instinct, Luna found herself in a defensive stance. Getting up suddenly, made her dizzy and she held her head in her hand. Like a dam breaking open, her memories came back to her.
She remembered everything from Ruo Ruo's betrayal to the death of Qin Sheng and herself. As her headache subsided, she lowered her arm and noticed that they look translucent. Nothing like normal. I must be dead, she concluded. She touched her chest where Rou Rou had stabbed her. There was no pain. She looked down. There was no blood or wounds. Her black clothes had been replaced by a shapeless white gown.
She remembered that something had moved. She looked up to see that it was not something but someone. An old man stood in front of her, stroking his beard with a jade staff held in his left hand. His hair, beard, and eyebrows, even eyelashes were white. He was dressed in ancient clothes and was currently looking at her with a weird expression on his face.
Above him was a gold plaque. It said 'Judgement hall'.
"You are pretty calm for someone who just died.", he said.
"Would you prefer me to be screaming?", Luna asked.
The weirdo's eyebrow twitched. A small smile appeared on his wrinkled face.
"What would you do if you could live again?"
"What nonsense are you speaking? I've just died, how can I live again?"
"What if gave you another life?"
The old man's eyes twinkled.
"You can do that?", Luna asked her voice filled with surprise and anticipation.
"He he he he, I can do a lot of things. Question is, what's your choice?", he said as he circled her, looking up and down her figure, nodding. "You'd be perfect."
Perfect for what?
"I-If that's possible, then I accept.", Luna said, even as she mocked herself for believing in it. She had never believed in God but, now she was going through something so absurd.
"Okay then. You better do well, girl.", he said as his staff started glowing.
"This is your last chance and your only reincarnation. Choose wisely.", the old bearded weirdo said, and waved his hand.
Then, like paper Luna was tossed from the judgment hall to the era of the ancients.
