Something was wrong.
Luna opened her eyes to find herself in an unfamiliar room. She was lying in a large four-poster bed covered in fluffy silk blankets. Above her was the bed's canopy around which translucent white curtains were hanging along with white jade amulets. She could see a tiger's head carved on the jade with bright blue gems for eyes. They were the exact replica of her assassin company from the 21st century.
How was she still alive? She clearly remembered dying.
Then she remembered the judgment hall and the weird old man. He had said something about reincarnation. Did that mean she got a second chance at life?
Luna tried to sit up but, no matter how hard she tried she couldn't sit up directly. She rolled onto her side and pushed herself up with her hands. While doing this she noticed that her body felt big and heavy, and limbs seemed to have shrunken, everything around her looked enlarged. She crawled awkwardly to the left side of the bed and slid down to reach the ground.
Now that she was standing, she inspected her clothes. She was right. She was in ancient times. She was wearing a peach-colored hanfu. There were three layers to it. The innermost cloth was the doudou. Then there was a translucent cloth with wide sleeves. Lastly was a sleeveless coat. A belt at her waist was keeping everything together. Little clusters of exquisite embroidery covered her belt and sleeves. A smaller version of the pendant hanging around the room was dangling at her waist, the blue gems catching the light and twinkling.
Her eyes widened in awe as she turned around and caught the full view of the room. The large space was divided into two sections. One was her sleeping area and beyond the screen in the middle, the second area looked like a kid's version of a study, with small chairs, a bookshelf, and a table.
On the right side of her bed, she saw a wooden sectioning screen. On the left side, where she was standing was a dressing table, on top of it was a copper mirror. Curious about herself, she walked to the table and sat down. holding the mirror with both hands, dragged it towards her. She came face to face to face with a three-year-old cutie pie. She had big eyes with long lashes, chubby cheeks, and plump lips. Hair from two sides of her face was twisted and knotted at the back of her head. A silver hairpin with peach blossoms made of jewels, with teardrop jade danglers was placed in the knot. matching earrings were dangling from her ear.
She smiled into the mirror and noticed two dimples pop up on both cheeks. She was going to grow up to be a mesmerizing beauty. The age was a hindrance but, being alive was a blessing.
"Ling Ling!", she heard a cry and the sound of something crashing to the ground.
She turned her head to where the noise came from.
Standing in front of her was the most graceful and elegant woman she had ever seen. She had blemish free skin the color of milk, and eyes that were calm as a lake. Wearing a green hanfu and with some jade jewelry adorning her long black hair, she looked like a forest fairy come to life. She was looking at the face of her mother who had died in her previous life. Her mouth opened slightly and ot tears unknowingly trickled down her face, eyes turning red in an instant.
The woman panicked and gathered Luna up in her arms, stroking her back soothingly.
"Ling Ling, you silly child, why are you crying? Mother, was only worried. Ling Ling is not being scolded. Stop crying, hm?"
Ling Ling? Mother (Niang)? She was reborn in ancient times?
"Mother...", a sweet voice was heard as the sobbing ceased.
Chu Li Fen stiffened. She couldn't believe her ears. She had waited 3 years to hear her child make a sound. The imperial doctors had told her that the poison she had ingested during her pregnancy had turned her child mute, yet she had hoped. And now...
"Mother...?", the voice was heard again "Don't cry..."
Luna was worried as her mother started silently crying. Maybe she has scared her.
"What's wrong, mother?", she asked softly, placing one hand on her cheek and wiping the tears with the other.
"Wrong? Nothing's wrong. Let's go to your father. He's going to be overjoyed!"
Chu Li Fen wiped her tears and with Ling Ling in her arms hurried to the general's study. The maids of Wei wangfu looked at their wangfei with astonishment as she almost ran through the courtyard with their little miss in her arms, for once without a sense of etiquette.
General Song Ying Jie, Duke of Wei, was discussing military affairs in his study when he heard a commotion outside. His otherwise peaceful home, now had its silence pierced by the cry of his wife.
"I don't care what he's doing, this is important!"
The general put down the scrolls in his hand, worried. His wife never behaved in this manner.
"Let her in."
Without delay, his wife hurried in. In her arms was a little doll; his daughter.
"Wife, what's the matter? Why did you hurry here with Ling'er?", he asked.
Instead of answering him, Chu Li Fen turned to their daughter and stroked her face.
"Ling Ling, be good, call 'Father'."
The general looked at his wife like she had lost her mind. How could a mute child suddenly speak?
Before he could give her some words of reason, a small voice was heard.
"Father..."
