It was around 7:30 pm when Lucas finished all the "extra work," yet he still felt down about the situation. Usually, it wasn't as bad, but he guessed little dick did it just because it was his birthday. The extra work wasn't hard at all because it was his usual stuff. The problem was it took so long to do, and Lucas had to make the writing not his own. To fix the obvious problem, Lucas had to add small mistakes to make it seem like David's writing. It was harder to write as someone other than himself.
He let out a sigh as he checked his phone while snacking on a candy bar as he waited for the next bus to appear. He even shot his mom a text letting her know he was off and heading home. She didn't text back, but he could pass it off as her being busy. Just back to waiting and checking on media.
An engine's sound coming to a stop could be heard, along with an announcer saying the bus was ready to go. Lucas hopped up from his seat and got on his bus for another long ride home.
While Lucas was waiting, he decided to try out the app that seemed to promise him hope but always failed to deliver: Sinder. Sinder was a dating app that compared people with one another with the hope of hooking up or finding a romantic partner. Lucas had neither of those experiences. His luck with the ladies was like the chances of finding life in the sun. Even when his friends told him he had quality skills, it honestly just came down to him putting himself out there and not giving up. It also doesn't help that he doesn't do much besides work and home.
"One step at a time." his friends would tell him.
"What could go wrong?" Chris, the main force behind the "Get Lucas a girl team," said as he "helped" Lucas set up an account.
"God, please bless me with good luck today. I need a win for the day." Lucas made a small prayer for himself as he began his swiping journey. One thing Chris told him was never to be picky yet have standards for yourself. Lucas thought what he said was cool, but he had no clue what it meant fully. If anything, he would swipe on any girl whose's profile seems good or if they look cute.
"Yes. Yes. Yes. No. Yes. Yes. No. No. No. No. Yes. Yes. Weird, No. " His thoughts spoke as his finger danced across the screen. Nearly half his trip was over with, and ΒΎ of his swiping was almost out. He was about to give up until something caught his eye.
"Whoa," Lucas said out loud as he landed on this one girl's photo. She was stunning and was his perfect idea, girl. He clicked on the profile to find out more information on her, and it was as if his heart had actually skipped.
She was a big anime fan, loved comics, and even made a joke he could relate to. She was his level of nerdiness and looked amazing. He hesitated for a moment before super liking her profile.
He then felt reality set in as he realized there was a good chance she would not see it or even like his profile. A sigh left his mouth as he came to terms with the chance of her not returning his interest until he hears a ding from his phone. His face lights up with surprise and as he nearly jumped up from his seat.
"Yes!" he said out loud as he saw that she super liked him back and messaged first. He quickly realized that he was a little too loud and sunk a little into his seat as he tried to figure out what to send back.
"Should I send something funny, corny, or just plain? I can't seem like I'm desperate, but I can't seem bland." Lucas thought as he began to overthink the girl's simple hey. He then started to type.
Lucas: "Hey. How are you? π"
Kim: "Question. Super Man or Batman?"
Lucas: "Depends. Comics, movie, or animated series?"
Kim: "Clever. Let's go with comic? "
Lucas: "Batman. Even though his plot armor is overpowered, he can take Duper with prep time."
Lucas took a deep breath as he knows this could be a game-changer. He could feel himself sweating as he never thought someone would ask him such a serious question right off the bat. He knows this comic had some controversial debates over who was stronger; however, he knew his stuff. He eyed her message bubbles as she was trying to figure out what to say next. Her message then popped up.
Kim: "My place or yours?"
Lucas: "Wait! Did I pass?"
Kim: "You tell me? π"
She then sent Lucas a very not safe picture that made his whole face glow red.
"Holy Cow Fox-Man! I did it." Lucas thought to himself as he was in disbelief that this couldn't be happening. Yet, here he was looking at the messages. He could feel his heartbeat a million miles per second, but he had to calm down and play it off cool.
"Okay. This is happening, but I need to take it easy. Mom and Martha are going to be gone nearly all night." He tried to rationalize this situation, but another thought came to mind. "It is my birthday. Fuck it. It's my birthday. I need a happy ending for my day." Lucas thought to himself and reassuring if this was something he wanted.
Lucas: "Okay. How about dinner at my place and see where it goes from there? π"
Kim: "Alrighty then. Send me the address, and I will be over there faster than Duper Man can fly."
Lucas: "I'll be ready."
Lucas pumped his fist in victory. He felt his prayers had finally be answered, and the universe was alining for him. He never dreamed of something like this would ever happen to him, but he wasn't going to miss his opportunity.
He began to go over everything he should do when he got to the house, more than anything he needed to freshen up. Lucas also thought of the perfect meal to fix for both of them as well. He had about ten minutes before the bus got to his stop, so he had plenty of time. The first thing Lucas did was sent his date the address, and she texted she would be there around 9ish.
8:50 pm.
Lucas had done a small bit of cleaning, but thanks to how his mom and Martha like to keep the house, that wasn't a big problem. He had enough time to hop in the shower and freshen up as the food he cooked was nearly ready to be taken out of the oven. He did a final sweep of the house, ensuring the entire area was still good and made sure every door was closed. He even straightened up his room and sat at the table for two with lit candles.
The feeling of butterflies filled Lucas's stomach as he looked in a mirror, making sure his hair was good. He then quoted his favorite anime character to get himself pumped up.
"I feel great! I can do this! Yes! Yes! Yes! I can win!" Lucas said hyping himself up. For the first time in a good while, he felt as if nothing could go wrong. He felt genuinely happy with this date happening. Even if she didn't show or something came up, he was glad a girl actually gave him the time and day. He then rechecked his time, and it was 9 o'clock on the dot. Lucas then went to the kitchen and checked on the meal as it was almost time for it to come out. He pulled the chicken out of the oven for a second, cut a little piece of it, and saw it was almost quite there.
*Ding Doing*
The sound of his doorbell went off as his heart nearly skipped a beat at the fact she actually showed up. He slid the chicken back in for a few more minutes on very low as he took off the oven mitts and placed the knife on the counter. He then heard the doorbell ring again and yelled back that he was on his way.
As he placed his hand on the doorknob, a weird sensation came over him. It felt as if something was telling him not to open the door. This sensation made him pause for a second and think about it. He looked down and saw his handshaking. He heard the doorbell ring one more time and shook his head at the feeling. He passed it off as last-minute jitters and opened the door to greet his welcomed guest.
