I answered with a "hmm?". He then smiled and told me to turn the book to its last page and I asked him why, he told me to just do so. I listened and my eyes widened to see that the transparent pocket has a tiny diamond ring that has an our initial carved into it . I looked at him in disbelief, complicated emotions was filling me.
But one thing was clear, I still do not want to get married. Yet, I could not bring myself to hurt him either. So I sat up and stared at him with a blank expression on my face so he took the initiative to get the ring out of the pocket.
Things we're moving so fast I could not catch up.... I watched him as he stood up, took one step and kneeled in front of me. His words were enough to create chaos in my heart and mind. "Lia....., will you marry me?" gentle, sweet and serious at the same time. I don't even know what to say.
His face that is properly shaved, his long curled lashes and his eyes that are always reflecting me and always glistening everytime we see each other. A second passed and another until he could no longer take it.
I looked at him and I think time has stopped. (I remembered the day he went to my house. He was wearing a t-shirt and pants yet he appeared so innocent and gentlemanly with his diamond shaped face and his black colored hair, he serenaded me and asked my parents if he could court me with such pleading eyes, unfortunately my parents did not like him in the first place even if we were the same age so they refused and told him to stay away from me however as time passed by.....
I was starting to develop feelings for him because he still hasn't given up on me and thats the first because most of the guys nowadays, if you turned them down they will move on quickly. We started going out after classes without my parents knowing it.
One day, even without the approval of my parents, I said yes to him and eventually we were found out and was asked to have a dinner at my place.
At that time, I was nervously biting my nails waiting for the moment my parents say something about "the elephant in the room".
Yet, surprisingly my mom said something I never expected hearing from her knowing how overprotective she is. She mentioned how happy she saw me everyday and could not find the cause of it but now she finally does. My mom took Chris's hands and thanked him. She told him that they would support us as long us we do not wander off from our own priorities. My father on the other hand did not take his eyes off Chris and both of us know that it serves as a warning for I am their most precious treasure, dad simply nodded his head after my mom voiced her own thoughts.)
After that moment, I was finally back to my reality.
When his black eyes was showing a bit of anxiousness and worry, I couldn't take it anymore, I cleared my throat and said, "nn....no" in response. He was dumbstruck, and I continued with more words "we....we are still young and we should not think about marriage yet, you know I still have my dream to achieve and your business is still growing. There is time for marriage but now is not it, I..... Im sorry"
